restoring apps from iCloud backup again

2014-04-01 Thread Vicky Collins

Hi Raul and All,

I have no idea why it only occurs to me to do a google search
after I've asked my question. But, in answer to the question I
posed yesterday as to why some of my apps needed to be updated
again after doing the iCloud backup, perhaps I found the answer
in some Apple support documents, and looks like you were on the
right track with that history idea. I'll quote a few lines of
text from two articles, first the link and quoted text from one
article, and then the same from the next:

https://support.apple.com/kb/ph12521

After using an iCloud backup to restore or set up a device:

. Your settings and accounts are restored from the iCloud backup
you chose. Your device restarts and begins downloading your
purchased music, movies, TV shows, apps, books, Camera Roll, and
other content. If your device can't download the version of an
app that was backed up, it downloads the latest version.

Your purchased content is automatically downloaded from the
iTunes Store, App Store, or iBooks Store based on iTunes in the
Cloud availability by country. Previous purchases may be
unavailable if they have been refunded or are no longer available
in the store.

And, taken from:

support.apple.com/kb/PH12519

Here's what iCloud backs up:

. Purchased history for music, movies, TV shows, apps, and books

Your iCloud backup includes information about the content you
have purchased, but not the purchased content itself. When you
restore from an iCloud backup, your purchased content is
automatically downloaded from the iTunes Store, App Store, or
iBooks Store. Automatic downloading is based on iTunes in the
Cloud availability by country, and previous purchases may be
unavailable if they have been refunded or are no longer available
in the store.

. Photos and videos in your Camera Roll

. Device settings

. App data

. Home screen and app organization

. iMessage, text (SMS), and MMS messages

. Ringtones

. Visual Voicemail

Your iOS device backup only includes data and settings stored on
your device. It doesn't include data already stored in iCloud,
for example contacts, calendars, bookmarks, mail messages, notes,
shared photo streams, My Photo Stream, and documents you save in
iCloud using iOS apps and Mac apps.

restoring apps from iCloud backup

2014-03-31 Thread Vicky Collins
I understand that, when one restores from an iCloud backup, the
apps that are restored are the most current versions. Thus, I'm
wondering why, when I've done my last few restores from iCloud, I
have apps showing up in the app store as needing to be updated?

For example, I tried to rearrange some apps on my home screen,
but I somehow managed to get things way off from what I wanted,
so erased everything from my iPhone and restored from iCloud. My
most recent backup had been two days prior to when I was doing
the restore, and I had updated two apps since that backup.
However,
after the restore, and even after a reboot of the phone, I was
still told I had two apps that needed to be updated, and those
were indeed the ones after that most recent backup. So, well,
then, to make that information from the app store go away, of
course I just performed the update for those apps again.

Re: restoring apps from iCloud backup

2014-03-31 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
Hello. That is odd for sure. My only guess is that the backup stores some form
of data which contains the last time an app was updated. If that is not
synchronized with Apple's servers then perhaps things are not updated
correctly. However even that doesn't make sense because from what I understand
the Bakup does not store the actual app itself, just the name and the fact that
you had it. So in theory when it restores back to your phone, it should
automatically pull down the most current app based on its name. I believe you
have an unsolved mystery here.
