Hi list,
today I ran into another sendfile issue, I suppose:
While tracking down the problem why CentOS' Apache inside a vserver does
not deliver certain files directly via HTTP but always via HTTPS (this
really affected only some graphics files!), I did a strace -f on httpd
which completely
/centos4/cru-centos4.repo
file, making a CentOS4 host VServer-capable is as easy as installing a
VServer-patched kernel and running yum install util-vserver yum.

Also, Angela Merkel became German chancellor some months ago, thus we
have another clue for the riskiness... ;)

Hi list!
As 2 people on the IRC channel asked for my CentOS packages being also
available via yum, I added yum support to the repository.
You may find the corresponding yum .repo files in the distribution
directories at http://naturidentisch.de/packages/ , the GPG key is
Hi list!
I experienced this irregularity on a i686/SMP host using Linux
2.6.14.2-vs2.0.1-rc1 (a rediff, quite cleanly):
http://ircnet.de/paste/22
Maybe this counts:
It happened just a few seconds after booting including a few legacy
vservers and stopped after about a minute.
After converting
or reboot on the shell, but
not calling /sbin/reboot resp. /sbin/shutdown directly!
Regarding to info from Herbert, this should also fit well into Mandriva
Linux vservers and will most likely into all present RPM-based
distributions.

Hi list!
I have got created a bundle of RPM packages that allow one to remove
packages that are absolutely useless inside vservers:
vps-dev-3.999-1.cru contains the usual vserver /dev structure and
provides dev, hence allowing one to remove the following packages:
- udev
- hwdata
- usbutils

Hi List!
Also Samba smbd (here 2.2.7 from RH9 distribution) is somewhat
problematic when run inside a VServer:
From time to time Windows clients hang for several (about 3) minutes
when accessing files, supposable more frequently when sharing files.
I traced back this problem to smb oplock code
Hi Herbert,
at least the Linux-VPS more likely seem to be something like User Mode
Linux but not Linux VServer because of the dedicated memory.
Nevertheless images are easy to convert - but I am not very happy
about their size - up to 1G for a basic installation:

Hi Pavel!
I gave lectures about virtualization and the current stable branch of
vservers at CCC-Z23/CCC-RP where I had to refer to by-IP chains for each
vserver for both incoming and outgoing packets and I had to admit it
becomes impracticable if using CAP_NET_RAW or shared IPs.
