Thanks to everyone who replied re my ebay query. Never fear - I wasn't actually going to buy it - a new machine like that, I want a warranty and a local service to fall back on - but I appreciate how quickly I was warned off. I thought it must be a scam, but I have seen other stuff on ebay

I have two macs connected to a lan - one with a DVD drive - the other without. Otherwise, the DVD-less one should run GB fine. You might be able to mount the DVD on the dvd-less mac over AppleShare. Give it a try, I have a vague memory of having done something similar in the past.
