My nephew bought an 8Gb iPod Touch from Harvey Norman last week but we have not
been able to transfer any music to it from CDs. The Mac recognises the iPod as
it asks if we want to transfer photos from the camera, but comes up with the
following error message: iTunes
I'm certain all new Apple devices are covered by full phone support for the
first 3 months. Give them a ring, they are usually very friendly and will
understand that error code.

Hi Warwick, I suggest you do a sync, backup then restore. It'll take a bit of
time but worth it.
As it is a new unit, did you do the set up process in configuring with the Mac?
I suppose in my first paragraph that it is all set up on the Mac as a
recognised iPod.

but the most essential requirement is that of naming unnamed songs.

I assume you have already used the tools already built into iTunes:
file/display duplicates
and
advanced/get track names
and while you are at it,
advanced/get album artwork
These all do what you asked fairly well.
