My only suggestion is:
If you’re logging with Safari, go to Safari > Settings > Passwords and
find the entry for your iCloud login. You can’t edit it, so delete it
using the — symbol at the botton of the passwords list. Close the
window and try logging in again. This time Keychain

I am asked if I want to use my usual Apple ID "cha...@mac.com"
If I choose yes to this, my password will not work.
But if I choose “use a different Apple ID”
Then type in my usual “cha...@mac.com”
My password lets me in.
