The problem could be the cold weather making the lubricant in the
hard disk too viscous to allow the disk to start spinning. If you
don't hear any disk noises during booting that is probably the cause.
In that case. allow the machine to warm up before starting. Putting

If the problem is with the internal hard drive, it shouldn't stop you from
booting from an external hard drive, or from the install disk.

Did u reset the PRAM Stuart? Worked for me recently after G5 refused
to boot, Hold: option, control, P R down while rebooting,
