Hi Merv,
you need to convert the .VOB files to a format that is accessible by
iMovie.
I use DVDxDVPro. It is shareware and ported from Windows. Pretty ugly
implementation but it does work. The files are converted to .mov
format and imports straight into iMovie.
I'm not certain if
Hi Merv,
Is this from a Philips Brand DVD Recorder?
With Phillips recorded DVD's you don't get two folders as in VIDEO_TS
and AUDIO_TS like you do on a normal DVD.
You get two folders called ...VIDEO_TS (like normal) and VIDEO_RM (the
RM folder contains DAT files, IFO files, and VIDEO_RM.BUP
Hi Eugene
Thank you for responding.
When you say DVDxDVPro is ported from Windows does this mean I must
use it in a Windows environment or will it work in Mac?

Hi Ronni
The DVD-VHS combo recorder is a Panasonic DMR-EZ47V and behaves like
a set top box as well up to standard digital.
Toast would seem to be a way to go except that I would have to
upgrade from my old 5.2.1!
Thank you for clarifying the file types and explaining their
characteristics,
Hi Ronni
That is getting close to the cost of a Toast update.
Will have to take this up with my chancellor - a new pair of winter
boots for her or Toast for me!!

Hi Merv,
sorry for the delay in my answer.
DVDxDVPro was originally written for the PC and the code was rewritten
to run under the Mac environment so it now runs natively on the Mac.
It is obvious through its non conventional interface.

Phew!! That's quite a bit more than what I paid for it...

Hi Brian,
I followed your link and it appears it is no longer available and
costs money when it is.

I found Shiiva http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/

Hi Merv,
Yes, I agree with James. I have used MPEG Streamclip successfully to
convert a DVD's .VOB files to DV.
Which is what you want to achieve.
Then import the DV file into iMovie and edit, then send to iDVD to
create your DVD.
This would be your cheapest way to go. You can then buy
It still works though ;)

Hi Ronni
Thanks for the reassurance about the use of MPEG Streamclip.
In the interests of domestic harmony I will certainly give it a go.
Brian has also advised that VisualHub still works so if necessary I
will attempt to find a download for that.
Thanks to you, Eugene, Brian and James for

Hi,
I want to try and record some DVD sound samples off a DVD movie,
so I can make a remix with samples from a movie. I can record by

this make some really bad quality recordings with static.
I was wondering if there
