Hi all,
When we recently went overseas, I bought a 1TB portable usb drive for
ongoing back-ups of our MacBook Pro (I already had desktop drive backups at
home).
The MacBook Pro has a nominal 200GB HD and currently shows a capacity of
185.99GB with 136.38 on disk and 49.61GB available.
I would
Hi all - ignore this - when it completed, I re-checked the script and it
transpires that the script actually saved was obviously as for my first
clone - ie erase and copy. Even though I remember doing a smart update
later, I obviously didn't save that version (now I have!)
So SD Smart Update IS
He he heh Neil,
and I do like to know
WHY ;o)
I’m glad you now know the “WHY” ;-)
Yep, SuperDuper is smart …
Cheers,
Ronni

OK, the subject says it all, and maybe I'm bored, or working too hard,..or
both,...but can someone (only if they're really bored and can be bothered)
explain the following to me,
Hold down both shift keys on the keyboard and type the whole alphabet
anywhere you can write text. (We used Safari
Yes okay Daniel, curiously, I did try it on my PowerBook and confirm
that all the letters came out. Now all we need is for some curious
person with an iMac or G5 to give it a go.
Of course I must ask, why did you do this in the first place??

Yep, Daniel, I also get some missing characters. ABCDFGHJKLMNSVXZ I
have an old G4 450MHz, with 10.4.7
However, looking where the 'missing' keys are on the board some of
these correspond to different alphabet character on non English
keyboard layout ... could that be part of it?
Cheers,
I tried it on my emac G4 and my letters are lost too, curiosity got
the better of me, but my husband just laughed, so your assumptions on
peoples reactions were spot on as well.

I think it's too early in the morning, have replied to this 3 times

Oh Daniel get more sleep!
You just knew I would have to try it .
In fact, when you hold down both shift keys, a bunch of keys go dead.
Function keys F1 through F9 become non-responsive.
Almost the entire top row of letter keys (Tab, Q, W, E, R, T, Y, I
and O) go dead. The
For Daniel and the rest of us who just 'had to find out WHY'
It turns out the double-shift-dead key roster is slightly different
between the notebook built-in keyboard and the desktop keyboards. P

Yes, that was my second finding,..it's the whole entire top row of keys.
Perhaps something to do with connections, that short out that top row when
two modifier keys are pressed.
Or maybe the computer just says If you're bored/silly/mad enough to press
more then one shift key (which really isn't
Well I gave it a shot and had the same missing letters.
I also found that { is missing but both } | work fine.
Very strange!

I read some other postings by the person who explained about the
keyboards, and came across a funny Google trick, to type

You have to try it, don't you!!
1) as previously noted top row Q to P missing - as is { but not }
2) on keypad (really stretch those fingers!) row 456+ disappears
3) also on keypad 0 disappears
I'm still trying to imagine just how Daniel noticed this!
Have fun.

Susan, thanks for this, it is hilarious. The strange thing is
though, that many of the 'curiosities' that come up with my name,
could almost be true!

No Ian, can't say that was it,..in fact I've never actually smoked anything

I am a bit confused by the change. When I click the archive address I go to
a WAMUG site which then automatically switches me to the old Yahoo page.
Curious about the reason for the change. I thought the old system was
great. My messages always, and I mean always, got through instantly.

I have a new problem in Jaguar. When I try to open the program from the doc
or program, it crashes. When I open Word from a document stored, Word stays
open and works fine. I am also having problems in my Finder crashing. There
is no work around for this.
Do you have any ideas?
Sincerely;
