I have an iPhone 4. Latest OS. Today it has started downloading roughly 96
emails, all of which I have read. They are also coming to via my Macbook Pro.
I just deleted 96 message off the phone only ti find the same 96 re-appeared a

David has pretty much captured it. As an alternative strategy though, if you
want to insulates yourself from the ISP provided email account, simply set-up a
gmail (hotmail, yahoo mail) account and use that exclusively. The iPhone setup
for a gmail account is incredibly simple
The other advantage of a Google account is that I use Bigpond as my ISP and
often have trouble sending mail via their servers from the iPhone. Selecting
the Gmail servers as the sending servers has resolved all of these glitches.
Westnet may be more reliable.

in hindsight I should have stipulated.
As a user of POP mail on Apple's Mail, can anyone suggest an easy
solution for me to have an email sent from my iPhone also appear in my
Sent folder in Mail?

You should see all sent items if your email is set up as an
