Talking Firewire 800 400
I recenty picked up two Vantec NexStar MX dual bay drives with 2 x FW800, 1 x
FW400 and 1 x USB.
Having a 27 iMac with one FW800 port and wanting to connect by FW to an old
PowerBook G4 with only FW400 I thought I may be needing a FW800-400 cable.
Apparently not.
Speaking of which,
Wishfully thinking, does any know of any economical, portable,
bus-powered external FireWire 800 enclosures for 2.5 hard drives?

sorry to say that:
i do not recommend bus powered hard drives, if you have more then one
on the bus (usb or fw) you get strange crashes or freeze effects
because of the limited power available on the bus system!which
causes hds to fail/corrupt

Interesting article James.
As an aside to this, I have a Mac Mini (2.53GHz, 4 GB ram, Intel Core 2 Duo)
which has one Firewire 800 port. I also have a WD MYbook 600Gig external drive
which has two Firewire 800 input ports. My question; where can I purchase an
appropriate Firewire 800 cable

Hi John,
I¹m surprised the WD drive didn¹t come with a FW800 cable (both my WD
drives, so far, came with both FW USB cables).
However, I¹ve found places like Austin computers (Osborne Park) generally
carry a good range of cables though their site at present only seems to
show FW400 and FW800
Hi Neil,
Thanks for the reply, also thanks to Paul, Joe and Mark for their ideas.
My WD did come with one cable, FW400 to FW800, this worked for a short while
from my MacBook 400 port but then either the cable or the port stopped
functioning. I have been using USB vrom both the Macbook
