But this doesn't resolve your orignal question about wanting to delete
unneeded photos on your Mac...
Still, if you're happy, that's all that matters...

I save my Cards onto my Hard Drives, and usually keep my cards as I have kept

In other words, do you know where on your hard drive you save your cards?
Wherever that is, Photoshop Elements is using that place to generate the
thumbnails. It doesn't automatically save a copy, unless you ask it to and
decide where you want to put it.
