But this doesn't resolve your orignal question about wanting to delete
unneeded photos on your Mac...
Still, if you're happy, that's all that matters...

I save my Cards onto my Hard Drives, and usually keep my cards as I have kept
my negatives in the past, I may lose my Electric ‘Back up’s but I won’t lose my
cards. In case of Fire, grab cards and run!! Oh and my Camera’s. A little
expensive but I have all of my photo’s.
