iMac Update?
More info for those following the iMac updates….. http://www.macrumors.com/2012/11/26/new-imacs-to-go-on-sale-as-early-as-tomorrow/ I think the main working is near the end of that,… /quote Supply is extremely limited so please contact your sales team for more information /end quote If the 21 becomes available tomorrow, and there is very limited stock,…(plus given what couriers are like at the moment with the lead up to Christmas), I still have a feeling it will be early next year before reasonable supply. And the 27 is due to be released December. If it followed the same time frame that would be about the 27th December,…lol ;o) They might release it 20th, and it would still be a short time frame to try and get it before the end of year. Re: Consolation from Telstra
Ronni, Thanks for the links and your thoughts. I spent close to three hours on the phone to Telstra today, negotiating for an updated modem. Spoke to four different people; spent most of the time getting a cramp in my arm from holding the phone and waiting (I won't be long; please hold the line.). I refused to accept that bringing the modem to the Telstra shop was a reasonable solution. What-the-hell! I'm an octogenarian; driving and walking are major efforts now, and the nearest shop is about 40km away. Besides, Telstra knew I was a Mac user when it sold me the modem. The final result: I'll receive an updated modem for about 25% of the usual cost, which is $299. However, I had to sign up for a 12 month plan — I've been on a month-to-month for many years. I'm satisfied that it was the best I could do, and I can assure you, getting this result was no piece of cake. Persistence, patience, rational arguments ... and luck. Telstra is touting its 'new' approach to service. There is no doubt that someone in Telstra is trying, but they've got a long way to go. I won't know how reasonable this result is until I try the updated modem. Cheers, Vlad On 27/11/2012, at 12:00 PM, Ronni wrote: I feel your pain and frustration Vladimir. Re: Consolation from Telstra
Hi Vladimir, Did you download the Firmware file 3G21WB_FW_Update_Tool_R22.zip from the link I sent in my previous reply? When you download the file unzips and you have a folder titled 3G21WB_FW_Update_Tool_R22 1. Open that Folder and inside is a Data folder 2. Open the Data folder and you will find the MacBinary file - 3G21WB-J301-402TBP-T01_R22.bin 3. You should be able to do the update as intended using the normal update function from the web interface. You must have the Modem connected to your Mac via the Ethernet cable, log into the Modem's Web interface and update the firmware. Heh Heh… Most of us don't have a car that was built these days Susan. :-) I guess Pedro's link is useful for the rest of us. It doesn't matter whether you have an iPhone or some other brand, so long as you can pair it with your car's Bluetooth. SPAM from Apple? Fwd: Please verify that we have the right address for you
Hello Wamuggians my wife received the email below I would like to confirm whether it could be spam/malicious? She did try to download a weather app from the app store the previous night for her iPhone 4S, which she cancelled as it was taking a long time did not seem to be behaving properly, so this may be an Apple communication related to this. Seeing as the principle is that one does not click on links from bank sites to verify one's details, I thought this should fall in the same category. Hi Alex, Apple are very chatty lately, I've been receiving this email also. You can verify your email address by logging in at http://appleid.apple.com/ by manually typing that address into your web browser, rather than clicking the link in the email. Also read the support article below, which includes details about verifying your AppleID: http://support.apple.com/kb/he37 Cheers, Ronni Sent from Ronni's iPad4 On 28/11/2012, at 1:31 AM, Alex aln...@highway1.com.au wrote: Hello Wamuggians my wife received the email below I would like to confirm whether it could be spam/malicious? Re: Screen symptoms
Hi Jennifer, I not sure if this helps, but I have seen some iMac screen panels for sale on eBay and could understand why someone would be selling these (just the screen panels). Perhaps, it may be cheaper to buy the panel from eBay and get the wizard technician to replace it. I think a replacement panel from Apple may be exorbitant. Re: Screen symptoms
Hi Jennifer, Just a very quick reply as heading out to meet with a client (if I don't get blown away in this terrible weather we are experiencing down south). Do you have any external drives attached to your iMac when you startup and experience the screen freezes? If so: Unmount the external drive/s (Command-E) disconnect the external drive/s and see if the freezes stop happening on startup. Have you 'Repaired The Drive'? You need to boot from the install disc and repair the hard drive using the Utilities Disk Utility on the disc. Every force shutdown usually damages the drive's directory. I would also suggest you run the Apple Hardware Test. How to Perform hardware test: Apple Knowledgebase Article HT1509 http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1509 then: • run the quick test (takes a few seconds) • run the extended test (can take several hours) Let us know the results of the Hardware Test. This could be Hardware, could be the Display / Graphics, could be software related... very hard to give help without seeing the iMac and running some tests. I have to rush now, I'll be back later today but someone else might be able to help you in the interim. Hi Jennifer Sorry to hear it's still doing the same. I've sent you an off list email as well. But yes, as Ronni mentioned, try running it without anything externally plugged in (bar keyboard and mouse). Run that and see how goes. But at a guess I'd probably think it may be hardware related as well. Will follow it up with you and hopefully we can work through the issues to get it all sorted.
