Hehe,

I reckon I can identify with ³my brain is full². However, since I still
enjoy learning more & more new things, I just use that as an excuse for the
old (& not so old) stuff I keep forgetting - it just got pushed out by the
new stuff coming in ;o))

Well, fervent thanks to Ronni and Peter for the explanations, they worked a
treat! It would have taken me forever to have worked all that out by
myself. I'm continually and totally gobsmacked by the expertise and clear,
concise answers given to us lucky Wamuggers.

Years ago I did a course on Macro, the machine language for DEC's PDP6. The
instructor told us that he had given up learning anything new, as his brain
was full. I'm knowing more and more what he meant. I suspect that Ronni,
Peter, and doubtless other WAMUG stars must have their brains synced to a
mess of cloud servers in order to produce the wonderful advice they give.

Re: Mail question

2013-08-20 Thread Paul Willemse
Hi Ronni,

Sorry, I just replied to Blitto and his suggestion did the job.

I have several email accounts on my server (thelink.to) for various reasons. As
I said I saw the 'Never' but did not realise it was for a different account.

I am always running the latest of everything and mostly Apple products,
probably a bit fanatic about it...

Thanks for your assistance,

Paul

Hi again Paul,

I just read you have tried rebuilding the Mailbox.

If this is a POP Account, check that Mail Account Preferences.
Mail > Preferences > Accounts - Select the Mail Account you are having the
problem in
Click on the Mailbox Behaviors button
And check Sent: Delete sent messages when: select 'Never'.

Cheers,

Hi Blitto,

Thanks, that did the trick. I looked at that before but did not realise it only
applied to whatever account was selected, I thought it applied to all.

Still a mystery on how it got changed...

Tanks again,

Hi Paul,

To enable us to help better please always include what OS X version are you
running? And what Mail Application you are using.
Are you using Apple Mail App?

1. Open Mail
2. Highlight (click once) on the Sent Mailbox
3. Then choose Mailbox > Rebuild (from the top Menu)

Rebuild creates the index to the messages and does not cause them to be lost.
During Rebuild all messages in the Mailbox will briefly disappear from the list
of messages, but they will reappear.

Let us know how you get on please.

Cheers,

 Hi All,

My Sent Mail box appears to be behaving strangely. It shows only send
mails for two days then they disappear. There are some emails showing
for several years back from early August.

I have rebuild the Sent box but none of the recent emails shows up.
Is there a setting to control the time sent emails are retained, if so
I can not find it.

 Thanks in advance,

Re: Accessing US Store

2013-08-20 Thread Ronda Brown
I should also add this Note:
Signing up for an iTunes US account with this method does break Apple's terms
and conditions, you need to be aware of this.

Terms And Conditions:

http://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/us/terms.html#SERVICE>

"The iTunes Service is available to you only in the United States, its
territories, and possessions. You agree not to use or attempt to use the iTunes
Service from outside these locations. Apple may use technologies to verify your
compliance."

Yes Neil, you can 'purchase' Free Apps from US Store without a credit card, but
you do have to create a 'dummy' Account ID with a different email address than
you use for your AU Store Account and a valid Address in US.

Similar to this situation...

Hmmm just to clarify you may need a credit card issued in that country
with a valid billing address in that country to SPEND MONEY in the store
you do not necessarily need such a card to USE the store I do not have
such a card but CAN USE the US store and Œpurchase¹ free apps from the
store.

Re: Accessing US Store

2013-08-20 Thread Ronda Brown
Hi Neil, Peter & Severin,

Peter is correct ... To use any country's iTunes store you must have a credit
card issued in that country with a valid billing address in that country.
You'll have to switch billing information every time you want to make a change
from one country to another.

The Australian account will require billing local to Austrailia (credit card
billed to a valid Austrailian address or gift cards purchased in Australia)
The US Account will require billing to US (credit card billed to a valid US
Address or gift cards purchased in US)

You can change your account from one country to another as explained here:

Re: Accessing US Store

2013-08-20 Thread Neil Houghton
I know I have a US iTunes account that I opened several years ago when there
was lots of free stuff on the US store but not the Oz store but I don¹t
actually remember how I went about it ;o(

It does let me access apps that aren¹t available on the Oz store but I
think I¹ve only used it for free apps not to actually buy anything.

That probably doesn¹t help you that much except to confirm that you can
change back and forth between US and Australian iTunes accounts (though
their current terms and conditions may disallow this?)

I seem to remember that if you do have apps associated with a US account,
you have to sign into that account to update them.

Cheers

Neil

Re: Mac getting forgetful

2013-08-20 Thread Ronda Brown
Hi Pat,

Last thing to try:
Before shutting down your Mac.
Instead of 'Command-Q' to quit an Application (which just Quits the App);
Click 'Command-Option-Q' - This will "Quit & Close all Windows" in the
Application.

See if that helps.
Cheers,
Ronni

 Hi Pat,

Do you Quit the Applications or just close the window?

Check in System Preferences > General - do you have selected "Close
 windows when quitting an Application"?

I think you need a credit card lodged with your iTunes account with a kosher US
address to be able to purchase from the US store.

Accessing US Store

2013-08-20 Thread Severin Crisp
Is there any way to access the US App Store for an item that is available there
but not on the Australian one? It is a older item.

Re: Mac getting forgetful

2013-08-20 Thread Pat
Hi, Ronni,

When closing down last night, I looked for the checkmark, but the box was not
ticked.

I guess I will just have to live with it. So far, it is just a little bit
annoying, but apparently not potentially calamitous. So, thank you very much,
Ronni and Daniel.

Cheers,
Pat
