Hi Ronni,
My machine is the desktop Mac Pro, 2 x 2.66 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon, 10GB memory,
two graphics cards, one for each screen. I am running OS X 10.8.5 (sorry for
the butter finger typing).
The right hand screen is my main screen with the menus. The left screen is used
for the outputs of
Hi Paul
Have you tried swapping the screens to the opposite graphics card they're on
now?
Try that and see how it goes.
You can also try removing the preference files from your User library
(Hold down Option key and click on Go menu in the Finder then choose Library
from the drop down menu).
Thanks Alan,
I'm going to try my setup again to pin down when exactly the SOUND preferences
window refuses to reveal Internal speakers. It occurs afterI have been playing
though Apple Tv but not immediately. I think it could be after the Apple Tv is
left on for a day or two and meanwhile I have
Hi Paul Daniel,
I have been out just got back into my office.
Daniel the other plist I would move is:
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist
Also Paul, check in System Preferences Mission Control Automatically
rearrange spaces based on most recent use - Ensure this is UNTICKED!
Thanks Ronni
I knew I'd miss something with my flu brain,…thanks.
Also Paul, out of interest which graphics cards are you using? As normally one
card should be able to run the two screens fine (depending on the card). And
this generally holds the settings better.
Kind regards
Daniel

Hi Ronni, Daniel,
I found the answer but I do not understand how it got that way or why. While I
was looking for the files to move per your instructions I noticed something
strange: com.apple.systempreferences.plist and com.apple.spaces.plist both were
read only for my UserID. I only have that
Hi Marcus
A way-out suggestion - - -.Is your iMac output port ever used for
headphones or extension speakers? Might be a dirty internal switch contact.
Plug in a (clean) headset plug several times and swivel it around to exercise
the springs!
Cheers

Hi Walter
Good video, but I think the guy should be marketing his ceramic tiles.
I tested some new, middling and old AA and AAA batteries with a voltmeter and
the bounce test on several surfaces. Inconsistent results!

Hi folks .. I feel a great need to tell you this !
A few months ago I joined a Mac Users Group in the UK just out of curiosity I
guess.
I won't say which one coz that may not be fair.
WELL - what an eye opener.
I have been besieged by so many email posts inviting me to meet at pubs for a
Mac
NO Alan, I either use Apple TV or the internal Speakers on iMac
Thanks, I'll watch to see if I can pin down when it occurs,

Hello Ronni,
Yes. I printed off your instructions and believed that I followed them to
the letter. I was not in the room where the computer is when the process
was (I hoped) going on. Perhaps I should try again tomorrow and see if
anything untoward reveals itself. I will report the outcome.
Hi Jennifer,
You must keep an eye on the update installation. I never leave a computer when
it is updating.
You are asked to Restart your Mac near the end of the installation so it can
complete the installation process.
Run the combo update again and make sure it completes, then follow the
I know there is a member who resets machines and passes them on to a good home
as I have passed on a laptop to him in the past. Unfortunately i have lost
his contact details. I have an iMac 5.1 circa 2006 which I am willing to pass
on if he can contact me either through the group or

Marcus,
Out of interest, what options does the sound preferences window show for your
sound output?
The reason I ask is that somehow I managed to load an odd sound app that
corrupted the sound preferences and it took ages to get rid of. It showed up in
the sound preference options and also
Very many thanks Ronni.

Hi Walter Alan,
Yes, this is a joke...not a way to test batteries ;-))
I like ColtPiggerton's comment:
If you believe this, I have a salt lamp I'd like to sell you.
And Karl Ream's comment:
Lightbulbs can be tested like that too. Drop them from 6 feet onto a concrete
floor. If it shatters,
It works! It got people all over the world dropping batteries onto a
tiled floor.
