Strange attachment issue with Mail ?

Hi folks, This actually began some while ago and I have been getting more more curious about it. If I copy any attachments from Mail to the desktop, then Trash them when I have finished with them, I am not able to delete them from Trash until I have quit Mail. This never used to happen and it

Hi Stephen, Are you using Mail in Snow Leopard? Are you receiving the file is in use error? Until the message with attachment has been sent, trash will not empty if it contains the attachment file, but it should after the entire message has been sent. Many times the file in use error is

Thanks Ronni, Yes it is Snow Leopard (still nervous about Lion with my old 2.15 iMac) Hopefully will go all new in June anyway. Yes I get file in use error Files are definitely not open. Repair disk permissions quite regularly (especially before and after new install, as per your good advice)
