Re: Epson Stylus Pro 3880

2010-07-14 Thread Rob Davies

Morning All,

Not sure if this will solve issue, but I have noticed some strange behaviour
with print queues recently.
This happens when a job for some unknown reason does not print or sits in Que.
Waiting, why??? (printer off, connection not available, out of ink/toner??)

First point of call for all printing problems is the CUPS Administrative page
via browser through localhost:631 directly from machine attempting printing.
Click on Administration tab then printers which will list all printers - status
column will show actual error.
Most times just deleting actual print job solves issue, done from Jobs Tab,
make sure go back to Administration page.
Then, Jobs - Manage Jobs button this will produce a list of jobs waiting,
cancel job and try again to print from printer.

Password if asks for, being an administrator of your machine.

Cheers!
`RobD...

Re: Epson Stylus Pro 3880

2010-07-14 Thread Neil Houghton

Hi Rosalyn,

I don't know if it will help, but you can check various aspects of the
printer/print queue by using your browser to look at the CUPS area (behind
the scenes in the Mac OS) - easier to do than to explain!

On my computer, the following URLs are relevant (for your computer you would
replace the nrh-iMac27 with the name of YOUR computer - which you can see
by looking in the Sharing pane of System preferences):

http://nrh-imac27.local:631/ takes me to the top level (home) for CUPS
which presents links to lots of info about CUPS. Clicking on the Printers
tab (or directly inputting the following URL) takes me to:

http://nrh-imac27.local:631/printers/ which gives a list of installed
printers (in my case, at present, just one Canon iP4000) and their status
(in my case, current status for the Canon is Idle)

You can then click on the actual Queue Name for your printer which will
take you to the actual page for that printer - in my case:
http://nrh-imac27.local:631/printers/Canon_iP4000

Which gives a bit more description - ie Canon_iP4000 (Idle, Accepting Jobs,
Shared)

Obviously your set-up would give you printer name, rather than the Canon.

As I say, I don't know if it will help you - but some of the status
descriptions may give some pointer to your problem.

Cheers

!! CORRECTION!!

Following up on this - with my original URLs (using computer name) some
links (eg the Admin page) gave 403 forbidden errors.

Rob Davies' post pointed me in the right direction - use local host
(thanks Rob!)

For completeness, I have corrected my original post (below) to reflect this
but, as Rob says, you can probably just cut to the heart of it by going
direct to the Administration page at:

http://localhost:631/admin

Rob's experience is that deleting the existing job(s) in the queue usually
clears the problem.

One thing I sometimes find works when things hang is just to pause the
printer and then resume it.

Good luck!

Most USB things come to life with that sort of basic method. The hot plugging

printer is not in a error state.
Glad I could help.

Re: Epson Stylus Pro 3880

2010-07-13 Thread Greg Manzie

Hello Rosalyn

Something similar happened to me last week. My Epson 1270 kept stopping half
way through a printed page. I tried all the same things you have, including
permissions etc. etc., but to no avail.

I went to the epson site and re-installed the recommended software. I then did
a software update and installed the Apple recommended update. And it all went
back to normal.

It may have been that I had not printed a multiple page document since
installing 10.6.4 combo update.

It may be worth a try.

I certainly understand your frustration.

2010-07-13 Thread William Crabb

Thankyou Andrew,

it didn't work, but it did throw up a couple of brief error messages, but
disappeared before I could read them properly.
1) got an error closing the PSStream
2)...failed with error number...
But these messages are not coming up every time I send to printer.

Will try Daniels suggestions and get back to you.

Rosalyn

Also if none of the below work try deleting the printer from System
Preferences - Print and Fax. Then add it back again.
If that doesn't work delete the printer again (from same place in System
Preferences) restart and do a PRAM Zap (Command-Option-P-R on restart, google
pram will have steps). Then add printer again.
Also try another USB Cable after the above as well.

Just a few more things to try.

 Kind regards

Delete the jobs that are already in the Queue.
Unplug the USB cable and then plug it back in.
Check that the paper size of your document is set correctly to whatever your
 printer is capable of printing.
 Try again.
