According to the urban dictionary, the phrase comes from the old days when
a lock was a plate mounted below the doorknob. When you turned the key, it
gave a definite Click or Tick when the lock closed.
So, to tick a lock meant you had turned the key so the door (mouth) was
locked.

Someone recently sent me a beautiful picture of an owl. It got me thinking
about the references to owls in Mayberry. There was the omen of the owl,
and the Darlings ruined a perfectly good hoot owl while trying to cook, and
we heard an owl when Andy was telling his story about the Man with
Our local newspaper also referred to Mayberry in its editorial about a
recent jail break. The writer said the escape was akin to the bumblings of
Barney Fife!

Hi folks, I made an apple pie today, so naturally I thought of Aunt Bee and I
also thought of Jewell because she wrote that wonderful cook book.
Thank you for the photograph of Andy's dad. My sister- in- law told me at
Christmas, that Opie's brother was Leon with the peanut butter sandwiches.
