There was a mention of Don Knotts and dramatic roles.  I'm sure someone else will also know this so I'll put it out there.  From 1953-1955 Don played Wilber Peterson on Search for Tomorrow, one of the first soap operas.  I'm sure that had to be very dramatic as those shows were real weepers in
