There was a mention of Don Knotts and dramatic roles. I'm sure someone else will also know this so I'll put it out there. From 1953-1955 Don played Wilber Peterson on Search for Tomorrow, one of the first soap operas. I'm sure that had to be very dramatic as those shows were real weepers in those days.
