Watching Christmas in Connecticut and heard something I missed all the other
times it's been on - "Nip it in the bud". So, for the benefit of all those
who have joined the group since our last discussion, can someone please
refresh where that phrase originated?

The phrase nipped in the bud (or variations of it) has been around at least
500 years. It appeared in a comical play called Woman Haters, written by
Fletcher and Beaumont in 1607.
