While watching Gomer sing the other day, my husband asked me 'how did he
learn to sing like that.' Some of the other singers on the show have formal
training. I looked up Jim Neighbors on Wikipedia and it did not show any
formal training in his back ground.
As for the Lincoln commercial, I
There really are a bunch of TAGS fans around. Last night while watching singing
on WLJC tv the singers referred to the next song being sung in acapulco like
Barney did on the Andy Griffith Show. Just warmed my heart good.

Something has been praying on my mindIn the many episodes where Barney and
Andy are singing together
Andy never once complains about Barney's voice. In the episode where Thelma Lou
made her debut she says
I just love to sing with Barney. But when Barney wants to join the choir all
Vic,
I think he damaged that little organ in his throat, probably cheering Opie on
in the 50 yd dash or by calling for Gomer in the haunted mansion while looking
for a baseball.
Seems plausible to me.

I previously reported Mark Bishop's tribute to Andy in this month's issue of
Singing News but there was a mixup in the details of a couple of episodes he
cited. I knew Mark, in addition to being a fine Southern Gospel singer, is
also a big TAGS fan and for him to get episodes mixed up like
Jason, I think your quintet did a fine rendition of our favorite theme song!
And I really appreciated the whistling. Sounds like you've got a good group
there so thanks for sharing!!

The color song was their Alma Mater - Mayberry Union High!
The BW was Sinners Lose All Their Guilty Stains and Spread a Little
Sunshine for a while before Ben Weaver came storming in. Of course there was
also the song they sang to Otis so he would think he died, One Vacant Chair.

Once again I was one big goosebump as Jim Nabors sang 'Back Home Again in
Indiana' for the Indianapolis 500 race. He always does a great job with the
song and looks healthy. I hope he had a great time at the race.

Hey - is there a common?theme here? In the episode where Mr. Frisbee was
getting evicted, the ladies refused to sing too. How many other times did

she repeats the chorus at the end of the song just a few too many times.
I imagine that repeating the chorus was the only way she could refrain (pun
intended) from crying.
More power to ya.

although I am the last person to pass on gossip, I'm just gonna say it.
When Charlene is singing salty dog in the episode where she has a baby, she
repeats the chorus at the end of the song just a few too many times. In my
opinion it really starts to grate the nerves. I just watched the episode
I was watching Mayberry RFD and the episode where Andy and Helen get
married. It opened with Andy's bachelor party, and who should be there, but

I've noticed that before Andy and Ellie sing Away In A Manger he says
something like, remember. I wonder if what he said was recorded when they
were practicing or he said it right before the recorded song began. It sure
was a lovely rendition.
