A challenge for you writers

2012-11-03 Thread Marie

Being on total bed rest these last few weeks I've had time to think.

I come up with ideas but have trouble getting them onto paper. My latest idea
is this: a story about Mayberry told from Gomer's POV.

Picture it: 1984 Gomer is home from the Marines with his wife Lou Anne Pyle
nee Poovey.

Due to Lou Anne's female issues they'd adopted a cute little girl back in CA
and retired to NC where he works with Goober at the fillin' station.

Can somebody write up their own Gomer returns from the marines story? I know
Andy, Helen, Floyd, Barney, Aunt Bee have moved away but you could
incorporate Sam, Howard, Clara Edwards, etc. Even minor characters such as
Charlie Foley, Flip Conroy the druggist where Opie sold sodas, malts,
perfume could be used.

Thank you to those who can write a good tale

Andy's Occupation

2012-11-03 Thread Daniel Santos

What was Andy's occupation before he became sheriff? Well we know Andy was in
the Military, We can safely assume that it was during the Korean conflict since
we know he graduated high school in 1948 and there is no mention of him going
to college. Then he came home. married, had Opie etc We don't know exactly
how long he had been Sheriff when the show started, but we do know that Barney
wasn't always his deputy. I think perhaps Andy became a deputy when he got out
of the service. Because in one episode, I believe it's Citizens' Arrest, they
talk about the lineage of Sheriffs and how he took over for I think it was Ed
Paley..? Anyway that's my theory.

random noticing

2012-11-03 Thread eric swolgaard
Has anyone noticed the opening scenes forĀ  The Manicurist and The Jinx are
identical?
Both show the backsides of a couple (Looks like Tom Jacobs and a lady) walking
past Floyd's barber shop with the sign and pole prominently displayed and with
that same generic music cue.
I think that qualifies as curious!!

Andy's Barney's Military Service and High School Graduations

2012-11-03 Thread Ken Anderson
I have always been a bit confused about the military service of Andy and
Barney. Their two high school reunions indicated they graduated in two
different years, both being after World War 2. However, in Quiet Sam,
Barney tells Andy he can't deliver a baby because in 1938 he had flunked
high school biology. If that is the case, then Andy spent an awful lot of
years attending Mayberry Union High unless he quit high school when war
broke out and then went back to high school after the war and graduated in
1948. Also in Quiet Sam Barney told Sam that during the war he did his
part to defeat the dreaded Hun which of course is a direct reference to
the Germans. So it sure is confusing to say the least.

Andy's Previous Jobs

2012-11-03 Thread DAVID QUINN

Harry, I gave that very question a lot of thought a few years back, and here is
what I have come up with. Andy most likely graduated high school in 1945,
since that is what it said on his first high school reunion. Then we know
Andy entered the service, because he said so one time. In those days, the
military was a 4 year committment, so that would probably take us to about
1950.Then he came back to Mayberry and took the first job he could get,
probably pumping gas for Wally. Then one fine day about 1951 or 1952, a
pretty young lady (the future Mrs. Andy Taylor) drove into Wally's to buy gas.
Andy soon figured out he would need a better job if he wanted to marry her, so
he looked around and got the job as Mayberry Deputy. Andy would have been
deputy sheriff for a few years because the sheriff job was an elective
position, and you would have to get to know every one, get some experience, and
slap a few backs before you could run for Mayberry Sheriff. Then about 1953
or 1954, the Mayberry Sheriff left town for a better job, Andy ran for Sheriff,
and won. Opie was born about the same time. At least that is the way I have
it figured. Orville Hendricks - Mount Pilot Butter and Egg Man.
I'm not sure if this has been discussed before but I was wondering something
the other day.? I wonder what Andy Taylor did for a living before he became
Sheriff of Mayberry.? I wonder if he was a deputy or worked at the pickle
factory or at the gas works.? We know he didn't get right out of school and
become sheriff.? Anyone have any ideas?
