The Color Green
I am reading a novel and the characters are trying to decide what color to paint a new homeless shelter. One of the workers tells them not to paint it a pea green. Anyone caught this blooper before? In Barney's Replacement, 1961 episode, Barny quits (what's new?) and is replaced. Barney tries selling vacuums door to door and the replacement gets Andy to charge Barney with violating the Green River Ordinance of 1924. This is a blooper as while there was such an ordinance passed by Green River, WY, it was passed on 16th day of November, 1931. green acres and Reality shows
I saw Otis on Green Acres last week as a farmer wanting to sell his farm. This week he had a cow that was getting into Oliver Wendell Douglas' corn field. His cow resembled the Douglas cow, Elenor. I wonder if she a double role for an extra bale of hay. Alvey Moore(Hank Kimble, County Agent) was also in both episodes...He was a salesman in the Baby In The House episode on TAGS. Allen Melvin(various roles on Tags) appeared in the second Green Acres episode as a representative for a billboard company. If someone in Mayberry would be a star on a Reality Show , I believe it would be Otis. He would travel around the country side showing moonshiners like Rafe Hollister, Luke Sewell, and others how to make flavored moonshine with Prunes, Pickles, Root Beer, and potatoes. he would have the Morrison sisters, Jennifer and Clarabelle on his show to help demonstrate to the TV audience. His venture might even become so popular that he would start a Cork making factory, since he wouldn't waste $2.00 on something that doesn't have a cork in it. Green Paint
Just a quick comment on the green paint...maybe this has already been said...I haven't had much time lately to read the Digest in detail, but my recollection is that the green walls appeared with the first color episode in season 6. If so, I'm guessing that the walls were painted that way to make the best possible shading for black white filming from earlier seasons. I don't know about film sets but I remember when working for both the US Navy and Marine Corps, most of the walls were a shade of green most of the time. Green, green, everywhere green!
The house I grew up in down south (South Dakota is where it was) was built in the late 60's. The stove and refrigerator were both Avocado Green in color... Apparently that love of green was a nation-wide trend! Now, just to stir up another moulage a bit more, family friends from South Georgia used to tell us that they were going out to pick tobacco that day. However, if I would ask for more details, they would tell me that you would kind of rip the lower few leaves off the stalk, allowing the upper leaves to mature a bit longerso, they picked by pulling (they also said that the dew on the leaves in the morning would make your eyes sting if it got in them. Then, at the end, when Andy asks Bob about the ordinance, the smile is Andy's way of showing Bob that he doesn't really care about the legal details and rules through wisdom rather than through legal mumbo-jumbo. Green Hornet
I don't recall ever seeing anything about this before, but while watching The Green Hornet (old TV show), they drove through downtown Mayberry! I was watching them drive through this downtown when it struck me that something was familiar about it so I backed it up several times to study it. The camera angle is one we never got in TAGS. Remember how the theater sort of juts out into the street? If you stood at that point and looked back toward the court house, you'd see 1) the side of the theater marquee, 2) the porch of the hotel, 3) a side view of the front of the court house. So the court house columns really looked like 1 column. You could also see the stores across the street from the court house where Walker's drug store and the bank were normally found. The Hornet came from where we know the Feed and Seed to be, turned onto Main St at the Court House and zoomed up past the theater and makes the slight turn into the street that begins at that point. When they make that turn, you can see the Palmerton Café as the 1st store on the street. I do recall seeing the Palmerton in TAGS streets shots (maybe in one of those waiting for the bus shots), now I know where those shots were made.
