The Color Green

2016-11-14 Thread Ken Anderson
I am reading a novel and the characters are trying to decide what color to
paint a new homeless shelter. One of the workers tells them not to paint
it a pea green. She said when she was in the hospital everything was this
sickly green color and whenever she saw it she would start to cry.

Needless to say, this poor woman would not enjoy watching color episodes of
TAGS.

Green River Ordinance

Anyone caught this blooper before?

In Barney's Replacement, 1961 episode, Barny quits (what's new?) and is
replaced. Barney tries selling vacuums door to door and the replacement gets
Andy to charge Barney with violating the Green River Ordinance of 1924. This
is a blooper as while there was such an ordinance passed by Green River, WY, it
was passed on 16th day of November, 1931.

green acres and Reality shows

2013-02-05 Thread Victor Friskey
I saw Otis on Green Acres last week as a farmer wanting to sell his farm. This
week he had a cow that was
getting into Oliver Wendell Douglas' corn field. His cow resembled the Douglas
cow, Elenor. I wonder if she
a double role for an extra bale of hay.
Alvey Moore(Hank Kimble, County Agent) was also in both episodes...He was a
salesman in the Baby In The House
episode on TAGS.
Allen Melvin(various roles on Tags) appeared in the second Green Acres episode
as a representative for a billboard company.

If someone in Mayberry would be a star on a Reality Show , I believe it would
be Otis. He would travel around the country side
showing moonshiners like Rafe Hollister, Luke Sewell, and others how to make
flavored moonshine with Prunes, Pickles, Root
Beer, and potatoes. he would have the Morrison sisters, Jennifer and Clarabelle
on his show to help demonstrate to the TV
audience. His venture might even become so popular that he would start a Cork
making factory, since he wouldn't waste
$2.00 on something that doesn't have a cork in it.

Green Paint

Just a quick comment on the green paint...maybe this has already been said...I
haven't had much time lately to read the Digest in detail, but my recollection
is that the green walls appeared with the first color episode in season 6.  If
so, I'm guessing that the walls were painted that way to make the best possible
shading for black white filming from earlier seasons.  Maybe no one got
around to realizing it didn't look that great for a while...

Green, green, everywhere green!

2013-01-20 Thread Greg Boe
The house I grew up in down south (South Dakota is where it was) was built
in the late 60's. The stove and refrigerator were both Avocado Green in
color... Apparently that love of green was a nation-wide trend!

Now, just to stir up another moulage a bit more, family friends from South
Georgia used to tell us that they were going out to pick tobacco that day.
However, if I would ask for more details, they would tell me that you would
kind of rip the lower few leaves off the stalk, allowing the upper leaves to
mature a bit longerso, they picked by pulling (they also said that the
dew on the leaves in the morning would make your eyes sting if it got in
them. Kind of brings a tear to your eye just thinking about it, doesn't
it!).

Mike got it right, Andy mentions a stoplight when giving directions to Malcolm

Those directions sound like complete nonsense to me. The courthouse/barber

roughly a block away from the courthouse, yet his directions would have Malcolm
travel several blocks, making two or three turns along the way, before he even
reaches the middle of town. How can this be?

Hi Silvia,

The Green River Ordinance wasn't made up by Bob; it's real (see
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_River_Ordinance and
http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/1053808/Green-River-Ordinance).
My take is that Andy doesn't actually care much about what the ordinance is
but merely sees it as a way to haul Barney in and get him back on the force
(he's not just a number on a chart, you know). Then, at the end, when Andy
asks Bob about the ordinance, the smile is Andy's way of showing Bob that he
doesn't really care about the legal details and rules through wisdom rather
than through legal mumbo-jumbo.

And I must say, while Bob's viewpoint is interesting, what with the Crayola
work and all, I prefer Andy's perspective!

In the episode where Bob Rogers comes to help in the sheriff's office, he
brings Barney in for selling without a seller's permit. He cites the Green
River Ordinance. Then at the end, Andy and Bob walk away smiling when Bob
begins to explain what the Ordinance is, because Andy says he has never
 heard of it.

I don't get the ending? Does it mean that Bob made it up to bring Barney

Ah, something I always wondered myself. And we finally got our answer during
the color

pumps, but
I believe it's none other than Jud (Burt Mustin) who owns that car. He's in
line behind the
wheel, waiting to fill up his economical little car. Which, now that I think
of it,
makes his appearance in the gas line even funnier since the good gas mileage
meant he
probably didn't need to fill up that often, and probably didn't need to be in
line for
gas that badly.

With all the talk about the Green River ordinance lately, it was
interesting that the episode where it was mentioned was on WTBS this
evening. I am a legal student, and looked up the Green River ordinance
just to check it out. Here it is:

'Ordinance No. 175.

'Be It Ordained by the Town Council of the Town of Green River, Wyoming:
'Section 1. The practice of going in and upon private residences in
the Town of Green River, Wyoming, by solicitors, peddlers, hawkers,
itinerant merchants and transient vendors of merchandise, not having
been requested or invited so to do by the owner or owner occupant or
occupants of said private residences for the purpose of soliciting
orders for the sale of goods, wares and merchandise, and/or for the
purpose of disposing of and/or peddling or hawking the same, is hereby
declared to be a nuisance, and punishable as such nuisance as a misdemeanor.
'Section 2. The Town Marshal and Police Force of the Town of Green
River are heareby required and directed to suppress the same, and to
abate any such nuisance as is described in the first section of this
ordinance.
'Section 3. Any person convicted of perpetrating a nuisance as
described and prohibited in the first section of this ordinance, upon
conviction thereof shall be fined in a sum not less than Twenty-five
($25.00) Dollars or more than One Hundred Dollars ($100.00), together
with costs of proceedings, which said fine may be satisfied, if not paid
in cash, by execution against the person of anyone convicted of
committing the misdemeanor herein prohibited.
'Section 4. All ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict with
this ordinance are hereby repealed.
'Section 5. It being deemed by the Town Council of the Town of
Green River that an emergency exists, this ordinance shall be in force
and effect from and after its passage and approval.
'Passed this 16th day of November, 1931.'

**The Fuller Brush Co. challenged this case and it was sent to the
Supreme Court which upheld the ordinance as valid.

Green Hornet

2007-11-10 Thread Dan Goodwin
I don't recall ever seeing anything about this before, but while watching
The Green Hornet (old TV show), they drove through downtown Mayberry! I was
watching them drive through this downtown when it struck me that something
was familiar about it so I backed it up several times to study it.

The camera angle is one we never got in TAGS. Remember how the theater sort
of juts out into the street? If you stood at that point and looked back
toward the court house, you'd see 1) the side of the theater marquee, 2) the
porch of the hotel, 3) a side view of the front of the court house. So the
court house columns really looked like 1 column. You could also see the
stores across the street from the court house where Walker's drug store and
the bank were normally found.

The Hornet came from where we know the Feed and Seed to be, turned onto Main
St at the Court House and zoomed up past the theater and makes the slight
turn into the street that begins at that point. When they make that turn,
you can see the Palmerton Café as the 1st store on the street. I do recall
seeing the Palmerton in TAGS streets shots (maybe in one of those waiting
for the bus shots), now I know where those shots were made.

I know Batman, Superman and Captain Kirk used the streets of Mayberry; now
we can add The Green Hornet to the list.

At 43, I don't follow the music scene like I once did, but I did notice
in today's paper that there's a band from Fort Worth called Green River
Ordinance. No word on where they got that name.

This reminded me of a newsletter I was reading this morning from an
evangelist we know. He was listing all the churches he had visited in the
last few months. One of them was Green River, Wyoming. Of course, I nearly
blurted out, Home of the Green River Ordinance!

lots of green

2006-06-24 Thread Martha
In stage productions you avoid white because of lighting problems and use a
light blue. Maybe at the time TV lighting handled green well. Just a thought.

Lots of green in color episodes

2006-06-20 Thread Doug Gibson
I just bought Season 6 and the color is much sharper than any episodes I saw on
TV. I have a question though: There seems to be A LOT of green -- green walls,
green appliances, green furniture, ... I was wondering, is this a glitch from
early TV color, or was green a favorable color for early TV color? Just
wondering.

Found Him in NM enforcing the Green River Ordinance

2006-04-28 Thread Jeff Gossett
Jim,

I just got off the phone with Mark Miller he played Bob Rogers in the
Barney's Replacement episode. What a nice guy we talked for over a half
hour. He's not really retired he's writing scripts stuff, and they are in
the works to remake the movie Savannah Smiles that he wrote and stared in
back in 1982. Tim McGraw is slated to play the lead and Mark will have a
roll as a detective. I'm going to send him some Mayberry stuff and get some
autographs. It's taken me a long time to find him I finally figured out who
his ex wife was and made contact with her and she gave me his info. Maybe
you could include these finds in the Bullet and let the Mayberry fans know
they are still alive and kicking.

Keep this part to yourself though

Green River and Andy Bloopers

2006-04-13 Thread Joseph R. McSparin
I was in Pinedale, Wyoming this week for my wife's brother's wedding we
flew into Salt Lake and then drove from there to Pinedale. I stopped
off at an exit to get gas and not realizing it, found myself in the town
of Green River, Wyoming. Home of the Green river ordinance. I brought
my TAGS episodes to watch on my laptop on the trip and I noticed that on
Season 1 disc 4 one of the episodes I can't remember now which one. But
one of them on that disc had a shot of Andy closing the door to the
Sheriff's office. Well he didn't get the door closed all the way the
first time and so he went to finish closing it. However before he did
you can see a hand reach from the other side of the door and close it
for him. Like one of the stage crew thought he would help out and it
got caught on tape. My wife says I definitely watch the show too much
if I am now noticing these things. I was curious though if anyone else
has noticed little goofs like that in any episodes that they would like
to share.

The Green River WHAT?

2006-04-01 Thread Paul Mulik
I used to drive a delivery route that took me through the little town of
Chetopa, KS once a week. At the town limits are signs reading Green River
Ordinance Enforced. Of course, thanks to TAGS I know what The Green River
Ordinance is, but I would guess most strangers driving through (and probably
many of the folks who live there) have no idea what it is.

--Paul

P.S. I wasn't peddling, I was just making deliveries.

Green River Ordinance: Green River, Wyoming

http://www.rockymountainroads.com/i-080j_wy.html (scroll down about 3/4 of
the page)

The city of Green River is perhaps best known nationally for the Green River
Ordinance, which prohibits door to door selling. Created in 1931, the Green
River Ordinance was passed with the intent of allowing railroad workers to
sleep during the day; it was upheld by the Wyoming State Supreme Court, U.S.
Court of Appeals, and U.S. Supreme Court later that decade. The ordinance
can be considered as an anti-trespass law, since peddlers are not allowed on
private property without prior permission from the property owner
