When is Old Ben going to add a "LIKE" button in this newsletter? Sometimes, you're just reading along, suddenly you start laughing and reach for the mouse to scroll to the "LIKE" button...but it's no where to be seen, by man or beast. Back in the day when I worked in the DC area (I was a "college kid") the police would hang out in club/bar area of Georgetown and just hand jaywalking tickets out like candy. Plenty of students/tourists who were gassed on "mulberry squeezins" did not pay attention to the pedestrian signal. Jaywalking is rampant! I heard a radio news report this morning that you can no longer get a ticket just for jaywalking in Washington, D.C. You have to be committing some other violation at the same time. I hope this covers other parts of the country so that the Emma Watson case will finally be off the books. Remember when Barney gave Emma a jaywalking ticket. A customer at the library just told me she got one. I didn't think they enforced jaywalking. Jaywalking is rampant!!
In recent news from Andy Griffith's alma mater, UNC-Chapel Hill, the campus and city police are cracking down on jaywalking after there have been two pedestrian deaths. Some of the quotes in the article remind me of townsfolks getting upset with Barney. It's a crackerjack cop giving me a crackerjack ticket for a crackerjack offense, Arabasadi said, standing by the scene of the crime on South Road. Stepped-up enforcement is part of the university's solution, though the crackdown was preceded by by officers issuing 640 vocal warnings and 84 written warnings since Jan. 18. Looks like the officers are going by heart and not so much the book... so far. I have here 724 cases of malfesance...
