[weewx-user] Re: Error reading lock file /etc/weewx/.weewx.conf.swp: Not enough data read
Hi Glenn Yep did all of that. No sign of a swap file. I edited weewx.conf and all is fine K On Saturday, 7 April 2018 12:48:18 UTC+10, Kimberly Olsen wrote: > > I've been attempting to get ftp working this morning and suddenly when > attempting to edit weewx.conf, I get the message below > > This is when I am ssh-ing in from my Mac. > When I attempt to edit the file directly on the pi, I cannot save it > > Any ideas ? > > Error reading lock file /etc/weewx/.weewx.conf.swp: Not enough data read > -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "weewx-user" group. Glenn, I can see no swap file despite vi insisting there is. I absolutely did end the nano session (i prefer nano) properly every time- so there must be another explanation. Yesterday I was editing from SSH and was experiencing extreme lag. If I attempt to edit weewx.conf in vi rather than nano, I get informed that the file is open and that the swap file is newer etc etc -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "weewx-user" group. I am using the command sudo nano /etc/weewx/weewx.conf which resulted in the error I am not unfamiliar with Linux basics having used some Unix in the past Unfortunately I started with a fresh install, got new skins installed and despite being able to edit weewx.conf all day, again now it fails K On Saturday, 7 April 2018 12:48:18 UTC+10, Kimberly Olsen wrote: > > I've been attempting to get ftp working this morning and suddenly when > attempting to edit weewx.conf, I get the message below > > This is when I am ssh-ing in from my Mac. > When I attempt to edit the file directly on the pi, I cannot save it > > Any ideas ? > > Error reading lock file /etc/weewx/.weewx.conf.swp: Not enough data read > -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "weewx-user" group. OK then why does it work most of the time and fail only occasioanally? [weewx-user] Lets see if I can get a response to this post. Installing new skins
I am very interested in a skin I saw at Carlingford weather https://carlingfordweather.sydney/ but I can't follow his instructions, nor those in the weewx docs. His instructions are Welcome to Sydney! To install a report skin in weewx, you just need to grab the skin and copy to the skins directory under weewx config. See http://www.weewx.com/docs/customizing.htm#_The_standard_reporting_service,_StdReport___ for some loose instructions around this. You can grab the ZIP of the skin via https://github.com/dcapslock/weewx-responsive-skin/archive/master.zip If you wish to use the Australian extensions for forecast etc. follow the instructions at https://github.com/dcapslock/weewx-responsive-skin/wiki/Australian-%27Search%27-Extensions I hope that helps. I downloaded the ZIP and extracted it to downloads and attempted to move it to /etc/weewx/skins but I get permission denied. I attempted to extract to the same folder with the same result. The weewx instructions are not helpful to me. I'm not sure what I am doing wrong KImberly -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "weewx-user" group. [weewx-user] WeatherLinkIP disconnection from WeeWX frequently
Hi everyone. I am an old hand a weather stations and typically used WeatherCat on my Mac, but in the interests of conserving energy and my love of fiddling with raspberryPis, I have moved over to WeeWX. My brand new Vantage Vue utilises WeatherlinkIP because I wanted to access the console data on various machines on my network for various services. In any case, I have had a few issues since I started a few days ago. I found that there was a socket error at startup many times but occasionally the connection was successful- for a short time. After reading many threads on here I realised at least one error that I had made :-) I had assigned a static IP to the WLIP via the router, not realising that by entering the IP address assigned by DHCP into a web browser, I would be able to set the static IP from the WLIP config page. So after a couple of days of errors, I finally removed the static IP from the router and configured it via the WLIP config. I thought this would solve the problem, but it did so only temporarily. I checked in from my work office (40k away) this morning, via APRS, to find that a few hours ago, the data stopped flowing to APRS. I suspect that yet again the WLIP has disconect - I will check for sure when I get home but I am confident that is the case, as it has been for some days. So to my question- How do I keep it connected. I don't want to go to a serial connection as it does not suit my needs and the WLIP was ridiculously expensive. I have set debug=1 and will upload the log when I am home. Kind regards Kimberly VK2KMI -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "weewx-user" group.
