It was not really a support question, rather a bug, as I thought it were
programming of MW which were the problem.
Furthermore, I had to delete the -wrap, nowrap begin and nowrap end, because it
also made massive breaking lines, without it should do it.

The templates were directly copied from wikipedia (en).

Currently all entries made with revision deletion will end up somewhere in the
deletion log. There, they're hardly findable and also, it's not the same as a
deletion. When you delete something, it's gone. Revision deletion only removes
some stuff that isn't good. The usage for it is completely different and
different policies to its usage apply. Thus, revision deletion should have its
own log where all revision deletions are logged, so that one can easier check
the recent revision deletions, check for potential abuse with the revision
deletion interface and so on.

The extension is obsolete, so it shouldn't be enabled.  Instead, you should
probably change hiwiki's wgRemoveGroups entry in InitialiseSettings.php to:

ok, its up to you what is suitable.We want We want some probationary period
admins so that if anyone have good skills we may promote him to do some admin
task for some duration.because normally many user after being as admins
disappeared and some has some special purposes like (improving .js files) so
they may be promoted for some time.

These processes shouldn't deadlock anymore, with Tim's latest changes. I have
restored the first image (for debug purposes) and restored the other images as
well, but have left their 'old versions' deleted, because they are apparently
causing the problems with imagemagick.

broken animated gif

This is the animated gif that isn't being recognized as animated by mediawiki,
and was causing the convert problems, probably because the maxarea setting
wasn't triggered.

I have now also deleted the old revisions of the first image and uploaded one
of these revisions to this bug. The error report on the image was: Error
retrieving thumbnail from scaling server: Operation timed out after 53000
milliseconds with 0 bytes received

I'll see what I can reproduce on my local test server

Brian Wolff's GSoC work focused on improving MediaWiki's support for image
metadata (improving EXIF support and adding IPTC & XMP support).

his work currently resides in

his work has been merged into trunk, the upload wizard should use it to extract
relevant information where possible (i.e. GPS template from EXIF, multilingual

The box informing a user that his talk page has been edited does not display if
the talk page was created by moving another page to it.

Vandals and the like who are warned on their userpages (by mistake), with said
pages then moved to their usertalkpages, will thus not see the warnings.  (I've
seen such warnings moved several times, myself.)

I'm not really worried about us not following the spec, since the spec can be
changed if it's unreasonable, or ignored.  If we can't reliably link to these
characters, though, we should strip them.  Your attachment only illustrates
behavior with "#", which is already stripped -- do "%", "[", and "]" also not
work in practice?  I tested with [[mw:User:Simetrical/Id test]] and they seemed
to work fine.  I didn't test percent-escaping exhaustively, though -- in
particular, since you point it out, things like "%3F" are likely to be
interpreted differently by different browsers, and I didn't test that in all
browsers.

Stripped "%" in r71636.  Does anything else cause browsers to misbehave?  If
not, I'll look into filing spec or validator bugs where possible.

That would let vandals just revert to super old versions, which could become
the stable version. That doesn't seem acceptable.

This report was about sysops (or trusted users at least). A more general
request should be made as a separate report.

Having more preferences imposes a lot of non-obvious costs, so the number of
preferences should be kept to a minimum.  We have way too many as it stands. 
For things like this that are not terribly useful -- this saves one Shift-Alt-I
or click or whatever at best, and few users use it (about 30,000 on enwiki,
~0.25%) -- we have general extensibility mechanisms like user JavaScript, and
we should not provide specific preferences.

You didn't understand. Hoo was talking about rollbacks, not generic reverts.
Rollbackers are trusted users, and rollback has a different behaviour from
normal reverts also with regard to patrolled revisions (rollbacked revisions
are marked as patrolled, even if this doesn't appear in logs).
Rollback restores the most recent revision (excluding those from the rollbacked
user).

There are many other settings, you can replace by javascript, but not all user
have activ javascript.


The preload of a checkbox is a very simple setting. Please make that
consistent, and remove all other settings, which are preload of a checkbox.

Did you check also how many users use the other preferences?
And, if there are so few users who use this, how can it be a harm, as was
stated?
Anyway, as of July 2010, according to
http://stats.wikimedia.org/EN/TablesWikipediaEN.htm , there are 615526 actual
users, so that would be 4,9 %, and there are 99699 users with more than 100
edits (these are far more likely to use this preference), so that would be 30
%.

Not every wiki has the gadget extension, and if your aim is to reduce clutter I
don't see how this could be an improvement, given that we have already lots of
preferences for gadgets in several wikis which use that, and those preferences
are far less used that this.

I wouldn't call this a major issue - even if those default values get set, you
could use #if calls in the template to ignore those values if the right

I intend to, if I ever get around to it, but it's not especially high-priority.

Because it's more complicated to write the database query.

The first figure is extremely misleading, because you're counting both inactive
and active users who have the preference set, and dividing by only the total
active users.  If 27,000 inactive users have the preference set, it would
really be about 2% of active users, for example.  The latter figure (mine)
almost certainly understates the practical impact of the change, but at least
it's a meaningful comparison.

This is a regression bug. The PAGESINCATEGORY builtin function no longer
processes its parameter.

The typical parameter is {{PAGENAME}} and it is used like this
in common templates displaying a category redirect, in order to recategorize
the redirected category (where the template is used) within a specified
category, as long as it contains pages.

See [[fr:Catégorie:Norme d'affichage]] which is redirected now to
[[fr:Catégorie:Format d'affichage vidéo]] with {{Catégorie redirigée|Format
d'affichage vidéo}}. There's no way now to specify a parameter for
{{PAGESINCATEGORY:}} that may be variable, so the tempalte no longer works as
expected, and the redirected category now becomes compltely orphan, instead of
having its articles still accessible from within the target category.

Here:

* "{{PAGENAME}}" returns "Norme d'affichage"
* "{{PAGESINCATEGORY:Norme d'affichage}}" returns "4", which is correct.
* "{{PAGESINCATEGORY:{{PAGENAME" returns "0", which is wrong !

This is a recent regression. This has worked since several years.

That very input, the jQuery UI datepicker, was added to Semantic Forms Inputs
in its latest version, 0.3. I'm setting this to "fixed", since I think having
it in SFI is a good-enough solution.

It was locally recognised for me. I wonder if the detection failed because the
metadata in the db is old, from a time (or bug) where we didn't properly detect
that.

Attachment 7649 also shows inconsistent behaviour with "%". IE does not seem to
support percent-encoding in fragments at all; it takes the "%" sign literally
even if the two characters that follow could be hex digits. (If it did support
percent-encoding in fragments, this were all moot, since we could just
percent-encode these characters.)

Other browsers seem to try to guess how "%" was meant, but do it differently:
Chrome prefers to take it literally, Mozilla and Opera prefer taking it as a
hex number. location.hash is different again: Mozilla decodes it, but Chrome
and Opera don't.

I have not found any practical issues with "[" and "]" so far.

Note that the same feature was also used since long to also catégorize (in a
hidden maintenance category) those redirected categories that still contains
pages.

This means that it is no longer possible to maintain non-empty redirected
categories: ALL these redirected categories have to be visited systematically
each time now to check if they have content and see which pages listed there
need to be edited. This is a huge problem for major wikis that have lots of
categories, whose structure is not evident and is progressively tuned according
to the contents found. Many of these categories may have synonyms, so there
will be many redirected categories.

Being able to NOT loose the link between the redirected category and the target
category is important for maintaining the pages they contain, however these
pages will all be within an orphaned category (or only a category listed in a
generic category listing ALL redirected categories.)

I am attempting to install MW using SQLite (3.4.2). I am using r71491. After
filling in the appropriate information, the installation falls over with the
error:

A database query syntax error has occurred. This may indicate a bug in the
software. The last attempted database query was: 

INSERT INTO interwiki(iw_prefix,iw_url,iw_local) VALUES
('acronym','http://www.acronymfinder.com/af-query.asp?String=exact&Acronym=$1',0)

from within function "". Database returned error "19: interwiki.iw_api may not
be NULL".

Originally it complained because I did not supply a data directory. So I
created one (/var/data/sqlite_data/), changed its ownership to www-data
(apache2 on Ubunutu) and supplied the path in the appropriate place. This
pushed the install past that error, but then it threw the error given above.

No, because "autoreview" would apply also to non-rollback edits.
But even if you don't have autoreview, it doesn't make sense that, if you
restore an old version of the page, that version now has a different flag.

So is this to make rollback by anyone, regardless of rights, auto-review that
revision? That would be a bad separation rights. Is the request to make a new
right for "autoreview on rollback" and then grant that to "global rollbackers"?

I'm opposed to Siebrand's view. Pages for me are any pages, including
subcategories, files, talk pages, articles, project pages. They only differ by
the namespace in which they reside, and there are possibly many other
namespaces (don't assume that all wikis will behave like Wikipedia).

If you want to have counts be namespace, then what would be needed is a two
parameter syntax like:

{{PAGESINCATEGORY:categoryname|namespace-id}}

to make the restriction (the same magic keyword can be used, to provide
separate counts for each namespace).

or even possibly like
{{PAGESINCATEGORY:categoryname|namespace-id1|namespace-id2|...}}
if you want to include a list of several namespaces to include in the count.

The existing difference between NUMBEROFPAGES and NUMBEROFARTICLES does not
rely on namespace differenciation but on statistical parameters (notably the
page size, excluding included templates).

Introducing the term "member" will just add more confusion.

MediaWiki has a funny handling of these characters in external links that is
exactly the other way round. The wikitext

[http://example.com/##%[];]

gives this HTML:

http://example.com/##%%5B%5D";>

So it lets the more problematic characters through unencoded and encodes the
less problematic ones. Why that?

If a queue (ActiveMQ) outage happens then the interface will send back a
cryptic message informing the donor that we've failed pushing the message to
our internal queue. 

This is both hard to understand and mostly useless to the donor.

Instead it would be nice to fail gracefully by possibly writing the transaction
locally and replaying it to the queue later. We should have some kind of
monitoring in place to track local queue growth in case of a large unplanned
outage.

At no part of the pipeline should we message our donors a message that makes no
sense to them. If a donation has been accepted through payflow then we should
always show the donor our thank you page.

No that's the old installer. If it can't be replicated in the new installer in
trunk then not going to bother fixing this.

The same problem occurs on installation. I include here more contextual
information:

Environment checked. You can install MediaWiki.

The new installer is at config/new-index.php. Installer.php is the old
installer.
