Qute: Assuming the block is real, which is not possible to determine
unambiguously
from here, the only remaining cause I could think of that there is a problem
with the way this user is connecting to the internet.

The block is real otherwhise I would have been able to edit for the last few
days, there is even a screenshot here. Its very strange that you doubt the
realnes of this bug.

There is no problem with how I can connect to the internet, I can work on all
wiki's without a problem only nl.wiki is giving problems with the message that
I'm blocked because my ip is a open proxxy because you blocked it, my ip isn't
a open proxxy at all, its only used by me.

You can update MediaWiki:coll-community_book_prefix to override it. Otherwise
it uses MediaWikicoll-collections messages which is direct translation from

There's already IRC. There's even an extension that allows to use it from
on-wiki interface. Therefore, adding yet another method of chat would result in
multiplying entities beyond necessity. Don't forget that all means of
communication in
MediaWiki is there to achieve one goal: collaboration, not random chit-chat.
And real-time chatting is much less convenient for that exact purpose.

Not a snowball's chance in hell that we'll ever implement it.

The attached screenshot seems to have been taken while you were logged out.
Logged-out users don't have the ipblock-exempt right, of course :)

This, plus the facts that no one can reproduce this (locally or on the cluster)
and live debugging showing that User::isAllowed( 'ipblock-exempt' ) returns
true and User::isBlocked() returns false, makes me think it's far more likely
that you were logged out while hitting the block message (maybe you have
problems sustaining your login session? Try logging in with 'remember me'
checked?) than that something extremely weird is interfering with your
exemption, so I'm closing this as WORKSFORME for now. Feel free to REOPEN if
you can show with more confidence that you're being affected by a bug in
MediaWiki.

[Bug 25182] New: Revision 72797 breaks 'vector' skin

2010-09-15 Thread bugzilla-daemon

   Summary: Revision 72797 breaks 'vector' skin
   Product: MediaWiki
   Version: 1.17-svn
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: Normal
 Component: Resource Loader
AssignedTo: tpars...@wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: jorisaerts+m...@gmail.com
CC: roan.katt...@gmail.com

Since rev 72797 I get the following error (results in vector skin only showing
plain text in Chrome)

bWarning/b:  file_exists() [a
href='function.file-exists'function.file-exists/a]: open_basedir restriction
in effect. File(/wiki/skins/common/images/add.png) is not within the allowed
path(s): (/var/www/vhosts/.nl/httpdocs:/tmp) in
b/var/www/vhosts/.nl/httpdocs/wiki/includes/libs/CSSMin.php/b on
line b69/bbr /

Which is:
$file = ( isset( $path ) ? rtrim( $path, '/' ) . '/' : '' ) .
{$match['file'][0]};

replacing '' with './' seems to resolve it but I dont know if this is a proper
workaround.

Meh. Does replacing file_exists() with is_file() fix this? Alternatively, could
you try changing this:

if ( file_exists( $file ) ) {
some code here
}

with

wfSuppressWarnings();
if ( file_exists( $file ) ) {
some code here
}
wfRestoreWarnings();

and see if that helps?

That is totally different. The opinion tab is just a talk page.

*In my opinion, this is a simple matter of connecting to IRC and adding a tab.

Its a tad more complicated than that, but that is more or less what you do.
However I do not believe difficulty is the issue, more there is philosophical
issues.

Could you link to that extension?

There are many (although a lot of them suck). You know there is a search button

Thats debatable, however i don't see any links to community consensus either.

Fair enough, but without a pretty strong community consensus for this you'll be

 Adding a tab is easy. We're not objecting because it's hard to do.

  *This really is a community decision, not a developer decision.

 Fair enough, but without a pretty strong community consensus for this you'll
 be
 hard pressed to find a developer to implement it. Even then, it might not get
 implemented anytime soon (unless it is something the Foundation wants and can
 put paid developers behind).

[Bug 24284] Replace {{{0}}} with called-as name.

2010-09-15 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=24284

--- Comment #5 from darklama darkl...@gmail.com 2010-09-15 23:43:14 UTC ---
{{{0}}} should not have the initial template name all the way through in my
opinion, just as the other numbered arguments are not the same all the way
through.

Given A:

  Hello {{B|foobar}} and {{{0}}}

Given B:

  Hello {{{0}}} {{{1}}}

Given C as a redirect to A.

{{A}} should expand to:

  Hello B foobar and A

{{C}} should expand to:

  Hello B foobar and C

Off hand I'm thinking template families like ambox, tmbox, imbox, etc. or
wikibooks, wikipedia, wikisource, etc. could be simplified and maintaining
consistency could be made easier having a feature like this available to give
an example.

#switch: {{{0}}}
| wikibooks = b link
| wikipedia = w link
| wikiversity = v link
| etc

I noticed in the bug by Danny that was marked as a duplicate of this one, that
Danny mentions Bash. I was thinking of Bash and other programs too. When a soft
link is created to a bash script or program and you call that script or program
using the soft redirect the name of the soft redirect is used, some scripts and
programs have used this to provide subtle differences. Some versions of grep do
this when called with soft links named fgrep or egrep for example.

When would the real template name be useful? I can only think of one possible
use to make sure a template is called directly and not through a redirect. A
template's real name is static and isn't something that would be hard to
hardcode by hand and as Bawolff says update should the template be renamed.

In Template:Foobar

#ifeq: {{{0}}} | foobar | called directly | called indirectly
