i) Activate hook SpecialRecentChangesQuery (presently commented in the code)
SpecialRecentchangeslinked.php
ii) The hook should pass $query_options
iii) the caller should respect a false return value and stop processing

See also Bug 22315 (fixed in
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Special:Code/MediaWiki/61670 ) for the hook
parameters in SpecialRecentchanges.php . I applied a similar change to the
patch.

Or dear expert, is a different name SpecialRecentChangeslinkedQuery for the
hook needed ? I do not think so but let it up to you.

[Bug 22516] New: New page Special:Userinfo

2010-02-14 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=22516

   Summary: New page Special:Userinfo
   Product: MediaWiki
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: enhancement
  Priority: Normal
 Component: Special pages
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: church.of.emacs...@gmail.com

Hi, I'd like to propose a new special page. Before I implement it, I'd like to
get some feedback.

Special:Userinfo should be linked from Special:Contributions and perhaps in the
toolbar of user/user_talk pages.

It should contain:

* A list of user groups the user is currently in
* A list of user rights that are implied by the user groups (Optional, it could
also just be a link to Special:Listgrouprights)
* A simple Editcounter (Yeah I know this is unpopular, but it's often useful)
* A list of user subpages (using a Pager)
* Various links (e.g. to logs, other special pages)

The general idea is to disburden Special:Contributions, which got filled up
with more and more links over time. There should be central page for
automatically generated information, statistics about a user and useful links.
I know that the information is already *there*, but often it isn't linked
anywhere and distributed on many pages (e.g.
Special:Listusers/username?limit=1, Special:Listgrouprights,
Special:Prefixindex/User:username, etc.)

Any suggestions on the idea as a whole or individual parts of the page?

That inclusion was not intended, and fixed in r62458, which I immediately

Without having looked at the code in detail, I'd be inclined to say this is
feedthreads's fault for not providing FormatFeedWrapper with the data format it
expects (it's quite strict there). ApiFeedWatchlist handles this more
gracefully.

Of course FormatFeedWrapper's pedantic behavior should be documented.

[Bug 22517] New: Can the extension social rewarding be enabled on a small wiki like sewp?

2010-02-14 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=22517

Summary: Can the extension social rewarding be enabled on a
small wiki like sewp?
   Product: Wikimedia
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: Normal
 Component: Site requests
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: vac...@jeb.no

The extension for social rewarding may be an interesting option for small wikis
struggling to get working community. Without sufficient interest there will not
be many active users, and without enough active users no community will emerge.

Various kinds of social rewarding may be a simple yet efficient way to initiate
a community. By visualizing which ones are active we will increase the interest
somewhat, perhaps enough that an initial community will start to emerge.

There are one extension called SocialRewarding
(http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:SocialRewarding) which may be
sufficient for test purposes. Unfortunately it seems like it have some load
issues. Still in a wiki that is rather small, like the one at Northern Sami
language (http://se.wikipedia.org), it may not be a very big issue. Later when
the community exists the extension may be turned off. Until then it seems to be
an important asset.

What needs to be done with this extension before it can be enabled on sewp?

I am a newbie in PHP / MYSQL. I chose the SQLite when I install the

only gave me the following search result:

So you installed it on a SQLite database? Unfortunately, 1.15 did not support
searching with SQLite. This will be addressed in 1.16 which will (hopefully)
released reasonably soon. Because adding it required numerous changes in
different parts of the software, this feature will not be backported to 1.15.x.

Use of Google API can be turned off, so this should not be an issue. Hacking of
base code would be a show stopper though..

Identifiable points of low quality in the code would be helpfull. Some time
back I looked at parts of the code and found some issues, but given the size of
sewp I don't think they are really serious.

Yeah, that kind of information, plus anything else that might be useful (e.g.
list of subpages to the userpage).

To clarify: you'd get information about any user (through
Special:Userinfo/username), not just info about your own account. There
should not be any privacy issues, because all the information is already
publicly available (with exception of an editcounter, however it is possible to
find out the amount of edits through Special:Contributions or (on WMF projects)
through the toolserver).

I don't want to make this an extension because imho not having info distributed
over many pages is something basic, that every wiki should have, and not
special interest functionality that only few wikis need.

[Bug 22521] New: Cascade-protecting files should protect the file, not the description page

   Product: MediaWiki
   Version: 1.16-svn
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: Normal
 Component: Page protection
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: happy-me...@live.com
Depends on: 6579

Currently inlining an image on a cascade-protected page protects the image,
which is good. Bug 6579 introduces functionality that allows only the file to
be protected, not the description page. Only changes which actually affect the
cascade-protected page should be prevented, which in this case means changing
the file pointed to. So cascade protection of inlined images should be to
protect the file, not the description page.

[Bug 22469] Wikipedia Mobile needs to follow the fallback scheme

--- Comment #2 from Siebrand siebr...@wikipedia.be 2010-02-14 20:41:25 CET ---
(In reply to comment #1)
Does this concern content languages, or interface languages ?

Interface languages. 'als' itself does not have any localisation, because
Allemanisch, aka Swiss German has ISO 639-3 code 'gsw'. So it is localised
in 'gsw'. zh-yue is localised in 'yue'. So if the Wikimedia Mobile only takes
'als' and 'zh-yue' respectively into account, those versions will not have any
localisation. Similarly, 'arz' (Egyptian Spoken Arabic) has a fallback to 'ar'
(Arabic). In MediaWiki this means that if Arabic is fully localised, but
Egyptian Spoken Arabic is ony partially localised, the missing strings will not
be replaced with English, but with Arabic strings.

You can grep '$fallback' in
http://svn.wikimedia.org/viewvc/mediawiki/trunk/phase3/languages/messages/ for
the fallback languages.

Sounds very reasonable idea, especially if it can make this:
For Nike (talk | block | block log | logs | deleted user contributions | user

To this:
For Nike (talk | user information)
Same for other places where there is tons of links. The power users should find
a way around to add their shortcuts only for themselves only.

Resolving this as INVALID.

It's a good idea it principle but this is something that MediaWiki itself would
have to support in a native manner. It's not something isolated to Cite as has
been pointed out.

Please open a general MediaWiki bug on this issue if there isn't one, although
that's probably not going to help. This is a long-known issue that nobody has
gotten around to working on.

Strong endorsement as well. When an image is used in several locations, it's
cumbersome to have to manually reproduce the alt text on each article, rather
than have it be automatically drawn from the central image file. Local
overrides can handle any cases where the alt text needs to be different.

It seems there is only one hashed token...

if ( !$wgUser-matchEditToken( $params['token'], $user-getName() ) )

in ApiUserrights.php

Simplest way to deal with this, would seem to be, in that module, don't have
the checks done in ApiMain for this.

Or we have another method property like

public function checkToken() {
return true;
}

And default this to false for this module, and it can hash check it's own way
if it wants...

Either or seems to be sensible

Why are there no options for Blocking, for example I would like to give a
costum reason. And the duration of the block should also be changeable. The
best would be if the ip/user block dialog would show up, so I could specify how
to handle users and ips, cause for example it is not a good idea to block
dymanic ip indefinit

Perhaps it's an edge case, but I wouldn't mind having this. Not to answer
tickets, but because I sometimes go back to tickets to see what happened in
researching for other issues. When I get there, it's a dead end if I don't
understand the language - or it's a significant level of effort to find someone
who does.

I'd strongly encourage us to re-evaluate this - possibly a right that can be
assigned to people who understand what it's for?

--- Comment #11 from Dan supp...@dantechservices.com 2010-02-15 06:27:45 UTC
---
I work with a number of Hughes-connected customers in Alaska. We work with a
number of authentication required sites, such as Moodle, WordPress, and other
CMS sites with WikiMedia being a major component for one of my customers.

Everybody on the Hughes.net connections experiences the same problems as noted
above but only on the WikiMedia section of their site.

With over 3,000 registered users, their site shows the following Page
statistics:
Content pages4,302
Pages
(All pages in the wiki, including talk pages, redirects, etc.)13,152
Uploaded files7,210
Edit statistics
Page edits since OpenContent was set up49,382
Average edits per page3.75

Known fact or not regarding Hughes.net connections, I'd suggest that this
problem can be resolved as we do not see similar characteristics with the other
CMS sites we run.

I can provide more information if needed. Please let me know what you need,
although I must request this info from end users as I am not on a Hughes
connection.

Thank you.
