You're right, I slipped a little mistake there and didn't write correctly the
concept description. It should have been
{{#concept:[[Concept:Recursive_concept]]}}.

About recursion, please check the email I sent you a few days ago - I tried to
describe a few possibilities for implementation and I don't know which sounds
better/or is more doable.

[Bug 23641] Pass $watchthis as parameter to ArticleSaveComplete hook

Patch to Article.php fixing this bug

This changes $watchthis to $watchthis so that hooks (ArticleSave,
ArticleInsertComplete, and ArticleSaveComplete) can change its value. It also
introduces $alterWatchlist, which if null causes $watchthis to be ignored. The
alterations to the watchlist are now done by doEdit rather than by
insertNewArticle or updateArticle, which I guess moves us a step closer to
deprecating those two functions.

[Bug 23661] New: Database tables corrupt beyond repair

2010-05-25 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=23661

   Summary: Database tables corrupt beyond repair
   Product: MediaWiki
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: major
  Priority: Normal
 Component: Database
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: k...@kymhuynh.com

I noticed that two of my tables inside my wikipedia install had the in use
tag on them in phpMyAdmin - a quick search tells me that this is due to corrupt
data and this could have been the reason for me being unable to upgrade
mediawiki as the upgrade process always stopped at the following tables.

The two following tables are corrupt beyond repair:

pinkptc_neodex.neodex_cur
Error : Incorrect key file for table 'neodex_cur'; try to repair it
error : Corrupt

pinkptc_neodex.neodex_oldimage
Error : Incorrect key file for table 'neodex_oldimage'; try to repair it
error : Corrupt

I tried to run repair on these tables via numerous methods but all were
unsuccessful. I asked my host for help and they ran into the same issues. Their
suggestion was: Basically you would need to either create those from scratch.

What are my options?

[Bug 23641] Pass $watchthis as parameter to ArticleSaveComplete hook

-$this-doEdit( $text, $summary, $flags );
+$this-doEdit( $text, $summary, $flags, $false, null, $watchthis, true
);

$false?? Please test your code before submitting.

+ * @param $watchthis Unwatch the page if null, otherwise watch it; ignored
if $alterWatchlist is null
+ * @param $alterWatchlist If null, watchlist will be left alone; otherwise
page will be watched or unwatched,
+ * depending upon value of $watchthis

It would be nicer to implement this as one parameter $watch, where the page is
watched if true, unwatched if false, and left unchanged if null. Right now
there are no hooks in SVN making use of the existing $watchthis parameter, so
there's no harm in slightly tweaking its implementation.

Patch to Article.php fixing this bug and bug 23655

This patch moves most of the functionality of insertNewArticle and
updateArticle into doEdit, which should make it pretty easy to modify the rest
of the core so as to deprecate those former two functions (although that'll be
another patch). $redirect is introduced, which allows the hook function to
choose whether or not the user will be redirected back to the page after the
edit has been successfully committed.

Like bug 23614 you also filed, this is an issue on your end that you will need
to sort out, Bugzilla is not a support forum for larger issues with your
server.

I agree with your host that creating the tables from scratch is probably the
best course of action at this point. Completely new tables with a fresh copy of
the latest stable MediaWiki is my suggestion.

Again: this is not a bug in MediaWiki, so please do not seek further support on
your mySQL issues here.

there's another related problem - out of date servers have outdated
/tmp/mw-cache/conf* files - as they don't get rebuilt.

this happens when:

1. server goes down
2. new configuration is synced
3. server goes up
4. server builds cache based on old configuration
5. server gets synced new configuration
6. as new configuration timestamps are older than old cache, there's a desync

there would be multiple possible fixes, such as 'sync-common' cleaning
/tmp/mw-cache/*, but detecting this somehow is important too...

It's the wfDebug() that's wrong, it should accept arrays of objects not
strings. Fixed the wfDebug() in r66871.

I wonder if I am taking the right approach in folding most of the code from the
other functions into doEdit, or whether it would be a better idea to fold it
out into the functions that call insertNewArticle and updateArticle?

If your changes reduce code duplication, which they seem to do; then you
probably have the right approach. It's pretty rare that increasing duplication
is the right thing to do.

Create new API extension, and enabling core functionality, to allow insertion
of revisions with any user, any timestamp, any parent_id, etc. This will allow,
for instance, edits on one wiki to be precisely mirrored on another via API, or
article histories on two wikis to merged by API. There will need to be special
access controls on this functionality, due to the potential to spoof edits by
other users.

OK the notable difference is that the filespace seem to have changed name from

I would like to be able to detect inclusion, but more specifically for
extensions.

I have an parser hook extension that attaches on to a changesignature tag,
and I need the tag to be attached to the page that contains the tag not the one
that included it.

ie.. I am creating a large policy manual and am using this extension (that I
wrote) to track acceptance of the changes by staff. And the HR dept is wanting
to split the manual into multiple pieces to easier maintenance as well as to
track signatures per-section. However the tag doesn't get processed until
after inclusion is done so I lose the originating page.

Right now I'm walking through the code to determine where the inclusion happens
to I can *hack in* a hook to provide me this functionality so I can modify the
changesignature tag to include the original page ID as an attribute/argument.

This is because your browser is not feature complete and does not adhere to the
latest HTML and Javascript specifications. Perhaps you can use the mobile
version of Wikipedia at http://en.m.wikipedia.org

[Bug 23669] New: Email new password system does not check global database

2010-05-25 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=23669

   Summary: Email new password system does not check global
database
   Product: MediaWiki
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: minor
  Priority: Normal
 Component: User login
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: pbeaude...@wikimedia.org

When logging into a wiki for the first time, using a SUL enabled and merged
username, if the user first requests that the system email them a new password
(for instance, if they don't remember and have been using remember me
features on our other wikis), the system does not check the global user list to
find out if they exist globally, and so tells them they are not a valid user.

Both patches are now checked in:

MediaWiki core change:
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Special:Code/MediaWiki/66859

FlaggedRevs extension change:
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Special:Code/MediaWiki/66900

The latter change was a hairy merge, so apologies in advance if I dropped a
change in the process. Note that I dropped a couple en-gb strings
intentionally, since we're moving away from using the word stabilize (or
stabilise in en-gb).

[Bug 22093] Native Microsoft SQL Server Support

2010-05-25 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=22093

--- Comment #10 from Aryeh Gregor simetrical+wikib...@gmail.com 2010-05-25
23:57:41 UTC ---
Sorry for the long delay, I got caught up in finals and then procrastinated.
:( I should be able to review any further revisions quickly, now that the
summer has started. I agree with most of what Max said. No comments on the
Installer, search-related stuff, or the schema.

As for the rest, generally there are lots of places where you don't follow
MediaWiki style. Most of these should be fixable by running stylize.php. I've
noted some places that will have to be fixed manually, but omitted a bunch of
inconsequential stylistic issues that can be easily fixed after commit, since
the patch is already so large.

+# BEGIN DatabaseMssqlNative hack
+# Since MSSQL doesn't recognize the infinity keyword, set date
manually.
+# TO-DO: Refactor for better DB portability and remove magic date
+$dbw = wfGetDB(DB_MASTER);
+if( $dbw instanceof DatabaseMssqlNative ) {
+return '3000-01-31 00:00:00.000';
+}
+# End DatabaseMssqlNative hack

This is indented one tab too much.

+class result_mssqlnative {
+
+  public function result_mssqlnative($queryresult=false) {
+$this-mCursor = 0;
+$this-mRows = array();
+$this-mNumFields = sqlsrv_num_fields( $queryresult);

The name of this class and most of its methods don't follow MediaWiki naming
conventions. I'd use Result_MssqlNative here, and arrayToObj() etc. for the
methods.

Also, indentation here is weird. Should be:

class result_mssqlnative {

public function result_mssqlnative($queryresult=false) {
$this-mCursor = 0;
$this-mRows = array();
$this-mNumFields = sqlsrv_num_fields( $queryresult);

Indentation is weird in a bunch of other places too, and stylize.php can't fix
all of this. Try switching your tab stops to 8 briefly so you can spot it
easily, or configure your development environment to flag indentation with
spaces. Your new patch is really hard to read at my browser's tab settings,
and the last patch wasn't.

+if (!strlen($user)) { ## e.g. the class is being loaded
+return;
+}

More explanation here, please -- why would any caller call open() with an empty
$user, particularly when it will just return immediately?

+($ntAuthPassTest == 'ntauth'  $ntAuthUserTest == 'ntauth') ?
$this-mConn = @sqlsrv_connect($server, array('Database'=$dbName)) :
$this-mConn = @sqlsrv_connect($server,
array('Database'=$dbName,'UID'=$user,'PWD'=$password));

Use if/else here, please, on separate lines.

+// several extensions seem to think that all databases support limits
via LIMIT N after the WHERE clause
+// well, MSSQL uses SELECT TOP N, so to catch any of those extensions
we'll do a quick check for a LIMIT
+// clause and pass $sql through $this-LimitToTopN() which parses the
limit clause and passes the result to
+// $this-limitResult();
+if ( preg_match( '/\bLIMIT\s*/i', $sql ) )   0) {

This is evil, but I'm not sure there's a better solution. :( Maybe make your
check a little more careful, though -- this might cause all sorts of crazy
breakage if you do SELECT * FROM user WHERE user_name='LIMIT' or something.

+// MSSQL doesn't have EXTRACT(epoch FROM XXX)
+if (strpos($sql, EXTRACT(epoch FROM )  0) {
+// This is same as UNIX_TIMESTAMP, we need to calc # of seconds
from 1970
+$sql = str_replace(EXTRACT(epoch FROM ,
DATEDIFF(s,CONVERT(datetime,'1/1/1970'),, $sql);
+}

I think you can drop this code. I wouldn't worry about extensions using
EXTRACT() unless you know of some that actually do (and which can't be easily
changed). First of all, it's not a common need. And second of all, EXTRACT()
doesn't work for anything other than PostgreSQL anyway AFAICT, so it's unlikely
that anything would be hardcoding it, except for those two cases in core (which
probably started by splitting MySQL to its own case then pgsql to the default
case, and other DBs added to their own cases).

+$message = A database error has occurredbr/\n .
+Query: $sqlbr/\n .
+Function: .__FUNCTION__.br/\n;
+// process each error (our driver will give us an array of errors
unlike other providers)
+foreach( sqlsrv_errors() as $error) {
+$message .= $message.ERROR[.$error['code'].]
.$error['message'].br/;
+}
+
+throw new DBUnexpectedError($this, $message);

Does this actually work as expected? It looks like DBUnexpectedError takes a
plaintext string for $message, not HTML, so you shouldn't be using br / and
such. nl2br( htmlspecialchars() ) will be run for HTML output.

Also, if this did accept HTML output, you'd want to htmlspecialchars() on
$error['code'] and $error['message']

--- Comment #19 from Aryeh Gregor simetrical+wikib...@gmail.com 2010-05-26
00:07:06 UTC ---
Sorry for the long delay. It looks okay to me at a glance, although I haven't
tested it. If you've tested that it doesn't break things in IE, go ahead and
commit it IMO. People will report it if there are any bugs.

(In reply to comment #18)
 i also do not think the line
 summary.maxLength = 250;
 is required or desired. leaving a limit of 200 chars seems reasonable. this
 whole bug is about *adding* a test for no-more-than-250-bytes to the existing
 no-more-than-200-chars limitation.

The 200-char limit exists only as a crude hack to prevent most Latin-based
languages from hitting 255 bytes. It's not necessary if we have a better
technique, like this.
