Ok; I've asked the second author of Flinfo whether he'd agree to publishing the
sources and licensing them as GPL. If so, I'll post a zip here; otherwise, I
may still send you the code privately, so that you can at least see what we
did.

I don't know why Template:0 behaves different from other pages we

The wiki have not any success import under 1.17 from w:en, so it does not
affect Template:0 alone.
Indeed. I've tried to import MediaWiki:Gadget-contribsrange.js today and

[Bug 27172] Increase $wgAccountCreationThrottle for Portuguese Wikibooks

Where you really using one of those two ips?

I believe so, although I don't know how to check if those accounts were indeed
created from the given IPs.
However, I do know that those LIPs were used in some edits to the book entitled
Logística:
* b:pt:Special:Contributions/193.136.124.200
* b:pt:Special:Contributions/193.136.126.36

By the way, after exceeding the limit of 6, some accounts were created by going
to another Wikimedia Project (where the limit wasn't reached yet), create the
account there, and then come back to Portuguese Wikibooks to start editing. Is
the wgAccountCreationThrottle supposed to work like that with SUL or is this
just a bug which allow us to workaround the limit?

Should we close this bug and reopen it when the feature is needed again? Or is
it better to open different bugs for each time we need it (until 25000 is
fixed)?

I thought the discussion had already taken place and consensus was achieved?
Please discuss these things on-wiki, not on Bugzilla.

Thanks for the reminder. There is a solid base of consensus on the local
community discussion about implementing these changes. Four supports against
one oppose, which made 80% votes in favor (including 3 sysop supports). I
belive, this is regarded as local community consensus for a small wiki like
Bengali Wikipedia.

Please note: For FlaggedRevs, we would like to have the same settings like the
current enwiki settings. See that here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/?oldid=420880541. Pending changes should not be
applied automatically on any pages of any namespaces. It should only be applied
on specific pages when administrators assign the settings/protections (like
semi and full protection) there. If you have any question about settings, feel
free to ask us. Thanks.

If this bug is a mediawiki bug which should be fixed according to your
solution
it would duplicates bug 20654 i created years ago.

No, that's not quite the same thing. bug 20654 asks for population of the
interwiki DB tables from the CDB files. However, it would be much nicer if the
interwikimap module could just use the CDB files directly.

Not reopening because it appears of too low priority to myself, but reporting:
I did not set pririties any more in my bug reports as advised in this thread.
I received a series of e-mails because of the priorities changed in bugs
submitted
by me. They were all set the same I had done, if I had set them.

In other words: Having had the opportunity to set priorities at the bug
reporting
page, that had saved another person adjusting them and sending and recieving

reading some e-mails meanwhile, without making anything else worse.

The time of protection is stored as a logentry and a revision in the database.
You cannot use one of the date efficiently at the moment. You have to find the
log entry/revision of the last protection, maybe there is a reprotection or so
on, not easy.

If you try to create an account that is similar to an existing one (such as me
trying to create SöWhy), the software will check for existing usernames (here
SoWhy) and disallow creation of the account. On the other hand, if you create
the account SöWhy on another project that the SoWhy-account does not exist
yet, you can then auto-create the account on the wiki the SoWhy account
already exists, thus creating an impersonation account despite the measures set
in place to prevent this.

Example:
- http://toolserver.org/~vvv/sulutil.php?user=S%C3%B6Why

[Bug 27363] Mobile RTL Wikipedias are displayed as LTR

---
I'm seeing this on the *home page* for http://ar.m.wikipedia.org/
http://ckb.m.wikipedia.org/ http://fa.m.wikipedia.org/ etc ...

... but actual *article pages* are coming up RTL:

http://ckb.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/%DA%98%D8%A7%D9%BE%DB%86%D9%86
http://ar.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D8%AE%D9%84%D9%8A%D9%81%D8%A9
http://he.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D7%94%D7%97%D7%9C%D7%95%D7%A5

... except sometimes they *do* come up LTR on the first view, then RTL on the
second.

Might be related to caching or such; the home pages might always come up wrong
because they're not showing a regular page as such?

[Bug 28748] New: One multibyte character in parser function output kills all article content

2011-04-29 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28748

Bug #: 28748
Summary: One multibyte character in parser function output
kills all article content
 Product: MediaWiki
 Version: 1.16.4
 Platform: All
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
 Severity: major
 Priority: Unprioritized
Component: General/Unknown
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: mediaw...@blazemonger.com
Classification: Unclassified

Created attachment 8474
 -- https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/attachment.cgi?id=8474
Parser function extension Bug.php causes article text to be truncated

If a parser function returns any multibyte characters, even one, all article
content gets truncated. The article has no content when rendered. This is
simple to reproduce reliably with PHP 5.3.3 and MediaWiki 1.16.4.

1. Make sure your PHP is 5.3. We have 5.3.3 on our Linux host (CentOS 5.6).

2. Install the wiki extension Bug.php, attached to this report.

3. Create an article with three lines:

This is the first line.

This is the last line.

4. Save the article. The MediaWiki page is rendered but the article content is
empty. View the HTML source and see there is no article text below the start
content comment.

I have reproduced this on 3 different wiki servers.

\226 is not a multibyte character; it's an invalid UTF-8 byte sequence. That
causes pcre to discard the input at some stage, and this has been the case for
several years since PHP 5.1 or so.

You must only return valid UTF-8 strings.

Using the opensearch interface is probably the right thing to do; it'll also
pick up improvements on the search like not being limited to strict prefix
matches in an advanced search engine.

We should make sure that there's a dead-easy way to slap a standard typeahead
search suggestion box with given namespace limit settings onto any field, since
this is going to be pretty common in advanced editing tools.

Roan suggests nipping the bits from WikiEditor's link dialog as a model; it
uses the opensearch lookup and the jquery.suggestion plugin to handle all the
actual drop-down controls.

Probably one could merge that into a common module that can be called from both
places for future maintainability.

The goodies are in jquery.wikiEditor.dialogs.config.js -- find the 'Title
suggestions' section where it sets the field up.

The function returns null, which could be detected. However *every single use*
of preg_replace or preg_replace_callback, and large chunks of preg_match and
preg_match_all calls might need to have checks added, and I'm not convinced
that it solves much since the 'entire page goes blank when a bad multibyte char
shows up' symptom has been very stable for several years.

Thanks Brian. We encountered this problem in an extension that reads from a SQL
Server database via an ODBC driver that claims to return UTF-8.

Unfortunately, whenever I construct a test case with that ODBC driver talking
to PHP directly, I cannot get preg_match() to fail. Only when it talks to
MediaWiki. Hence the bug report.

Thanks for your reasoned commentary about this.

--- Comment #13 from Amir E. Aharoni amir.ahar...@mail.huji.ac.il 2011-04-29

I was about to close this bug, because it generated no interest since full-text
searching was fixed, but today i noticed something that made me think that
maybe it should be fixed. The current mobile Wikipedia is really only for
Wikipedia. I tried using Wiktionary today from my phone, and i couldn't run a
search - i can write the word in the search box, but my phone doesn't have a
way to send an Enter-like event.

This is true for my Samsung Monte, for Symbian-based Nokia phones and maybe for
many others. On the iPhone the SimpleSeach drop-down works, although not
without issues.

On the Mobile Wikipedia this is solved by putting near the input box a button
that actually runs the search and can be pressed by the Symbian mouse-like
pointer, by the Samsung touchscreen or by whatever there is in the other
phones. Until there's a new mobile WikiMedia app, this button should be added
to Wikimedia projects. Marking this as High priority - it's nearly impossible
to search non-Wikipedia projects on many mobile devices until it's solved.

AntiSpoof does not work with CentralAuth currently.

This could work on two ways: by blocking the account autocreation if there's a
local account with similar name, or by blocking registration if there is a
similarly named global account.

I think the later is preferable.

--- Comment #2 from SoWhy a...@sowhy.de 2011-04-29 19:33:39 UTC ---
Blocking autocreation would probably not work without heavy modifications, also
that would still allow impersonation of prominent users on little known side
projects, for example by claiming to be an en-wiki admin on en-wikiversity.

On a side note, AntiSpoof probably needs to be improved as well, as seen in the
recent attack of impersonation accounts on en-wiki. For example, AntiSpoof does
not block the creation of usernames with a single character changed unless that
character is similar to the changed one (SöWhy is blocked but SüWhy is
not). On a short username like mine, a change of a character is easily noticed
but if the username has 15+ characters or if the username is complicated, many
people will not notice the change, so it would probably be good if AntiSpoof
checked how much the new username has in common with existing ones.

I received a series of e-mails because of the priorities changed in bugs
submitted by me. They were all set the same I had done, if I had set them.

In other words: Having had the opportunity to set priorities at the bug
reporting page, that had saved another person adjusting them and sending and
recieving and reading some e-mails meanwhile, without making anything else
worse.

You can change when emails are sent to you if you want. For instance, if you
don't want to be notified when someone just changes the priority, status,
severity, or milestone there is a pref for that here:

https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email

Since, as bugmeister, I have to read all new bug reports anyway, setting the
initial priority is just another part of my job and not that difficult.

Currently, when you open a bug, it gets set to unprioritized until I set it.

We've been discussing much of this on wikitech-l.

Years ago, a mailing list dedicate to the creation of Brazilian chapter was
created (ver bug number 15446)

(continuing :D )

that mailing was create to discus the creation of WMBR (wikimedia brasil), but
after some internal problems became a general list to all brazilian community.
Now, there are a proposal to create a chapter, and two mailing list with the
same name could be very confusing, so i'm requesting the creation of two
mailing lists:

1. WikiBrasil-I - to be the general list (as the actual one) - if possible
please transfer all history of messages to that new list.

2. wmBR-I - who will be the mailing list to the new proposal of chapter.

I really don't have any idea of what to do with wikimediabr-I. But i believe
the best way would turn the mail wikimediab...@lists.wikimedia.org into a
redirect to the first one (i.e. wikibrasi...@lists.wikimedia.org) for a while,
and after close it.

Thanks in advance.

After updating to the most recent svn revisions (we have successively tried
r87128, 87129, and 87131 today), the Side by Side Preview function no longer
works as it previously did. When it is activated, the three tabs (Wikitext,
Preview, Changes) display, and editing works fine. Switching to the preview
tab results in a brief Loading.. and then displays a blank text box. The
Changes tab displays a strikethrough for the entire page - ie. it reflects that
all page content is deleted in this edit. However saving any edits works as it
should, ie. content is not deleted and intended edits work just fine.

Note that an installation-time check isn't necessarily sufficient -- if your
hosting provider changes their configuration later on, you won't be warned.

Max's suggestion at shortening the URLs by collapsing out common prefixes is
quite clever, though dependency ordering may mean that doesn't always work in
an optimized fashion. It also won't protect against a few more modules coming
in and bumping it beyond the limit again...

Dependency ordering is irrelevant. The order of modules in the query string
determines the order in which they are delivered, yes, but the client-side
loader is smart enough to execute everything in the right order regardless of
which order the delivery order.

This seems to be an xcache-related problem;

As this problem will not be fixed in xcache

all caches when scripts are invoked from command-line.

You shouldn't be using the trunk version of WikiEditor with MediaWiki 1.16.2.

Still, side-by-side preview is probably still broken, even if you do use it
with MW trunk or MW 1.17 (which will be released soon). It's not something that
has been given much if any attention in the past year or so :(

Looking at the database it's got restrictions both in the
page.page_restrictions field (old style) and in the page_restrictions table
(new style). Where the third pair comes from I don't know.

[Bug 21919] Write and implement Google News SiteMaps (GNSM) extension for Wikinews

It should now have an s-maxage of 1800 in r87140.

I was originally going to output the header directly in order to set the
max-age to 1800 as well, but it appears that the underlying RSS feed class in
core already uses $wgOut-sendCacheControl so I just used $wgOut's methods for
setting s-maxage, which means it doesn't set the max-age header for client side
caching, and it won't set the s-maxage header if the user is logged in, which
is unideal, but I don't think its really a problem.

[Bug 28753] New: Burmese language name is not shown in the interlanguage links list in IE

2011-04-29 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28753

Bug #: 28753
Summary: Burmese language name is not shown in the
interlanguage links list in IE
 Product: MediaWiki
 Version: unspecified
 Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
 Severity: normal
 Priority: Unprioritized
Component: Internationalization
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: amir.ahar...@mail.huji.ac.il
Classification: Unclassified

In IE8 and IE9 on Windows 7 the name of the Burmese language (code my) is shown
as squares in the interlanguage links list. The actual Burmese Wikipedia does
seem to work in the same browser, so i have a font installed, but in the links
list the link is not seen, so the reader has to guess that that is the
language.

This does work correctly in Firefox on the same computer. I opened articles
with a lot of interlanguage links, like True Jesus Church :), and i didn't
see any other language that is affected by this problem, but i use Internet
Explorer very rarely, so it's possible that there are others.

This may be Microsoft's fault, but if there's anything that MW developers can
do to fix it, it would be nice. Maybe explicitly specifying a font will correct
this.

Its Microsoft's fault :P

When firefox sees a character that doesn't exist in the current font, it tries
every font it has until it finds one that works. When IE sees a character that
doesn't exist in the current font, it sits down and cries.

Explicitly specifying a font that has that character would fix the issue
though.

We shouldn't disable all caches from the command line if they work. It only
seems to be Xcache with the problem, so hacked it to not do anything when in
CLI in r87145.

[Bug 28750] Side by Side Preview no longer working

2011-04-29 Thread bugzilla-daemon

--- Comment #3 from Dave Murray dmur...@bcombudsperson.ca 2011-04-29 22:56:12
UTC ---
(In reply to comment #2)
You shouldn't be using the trunk version of WikiEditor with MediaWiki 1.16.2.
Still, side-by-side preview is probably still broken, even if you do use it
with MW trunk or MW 1.17 (which will be released soon). It's not something
that
has been given much if any attention in the past year or so :(

Thanks Roan - we decided to try the trunk version as the stable branch (r74799)
has awful behaviour pasting formatted text from MS Word - it apepars in the
edit window with all its formatting rather than as plain text as it should, but
if you save the edits it obliterates all the page content except the first line
only of what was pasted. I could report a separate bug for this but it seems
to have been resolved in the more recent builds.

Guess we'll revert back to the stable branch version as we'd identified
workarounds for the bug by pasting from word into notepad, then pasting that
plain text into the wiki, or using a Word Add-in to save as MediaWiki format.

Cheers for the information.

Given that our main site is Wikimediafoundation.org
blog.wikimediafoundation.org is an understandable assumption for the blog.
Currently that leads to an error and would be better off redirecting to the
blog if possible.
