[Bug 27619] Remove ? mode for missing links
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27619 Marcin Cieślak marcin.cies...@gmail.com changed: What|Removed |Added CC||marcin.cies...@gmail.com --- Comment #4 from Marcin Cieślak marcin.cies...@gmail.com 2011-08-02 07:10:41 UTC --- I would actually use this feature had it been implemented differently, i.e. not implemented in CSS but to have ? displayed as a part of HTML. I love editing wiki with w3m (the text browser) and it's the only feature that's missing - you can't tell blue links from red links with this browser, so I had to check manually all the links I added for typos. Having a non-CSS question mark after link would really help. I could also imagine it could help in some accessibility situations, where advanced CSS2 is not available. In its current form it's just a visual gimmick and useless. I'd love to see it back in the HTML form. I now it's difficult because of the way we currently cache compiled parser output, or isn't it? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. [Bug 30130] Narayam does not work properly on Chrome browser
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=30130 --- Comment #3 from Brion Vibber br...@wikimedia.org 2011-08-02 07:12:20 UTC --- Ok, here's what it looks like is happening: * user types m ** select (0, 0] (empty selection) ** insert म् (two characters: m and no-vowel placeholder) * user types i ** select (1, 2] (select the second char: no-vowel placeholder) ** insert ि (i combining character, replacing the placeholder) In Firefox, this works fine. But in Chrome Safari, the setSelection call to (1, 2] fails -- the resulting selection is set to (2, 2], so we end up inserting the new character after the character we meant to replace. I think the system is trying to outsmart us and isn't letting us select a combining character by itself... which is pretty inconvenient since that's explicitly what we're trying to do. :P -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug. ___ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l

[Bug 30130] Narayam does not work properly on Chrome browser
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=30130 --- Comment #10 from Junaid junu...@gmail.com 2011-08-02 11:03:24 UTC --- @Brion, I personally keep a standalone version of this tool that is independent of any external js library (usually jQuery as we do here). It implements its own text selection, replacement and caret positioning functions (Most of them are collected from the web :D ). You can finds its code here: http://code.google.com/p/naaraayam/source/browse/#svn%2Ftrunk Just now, I created a test page at: http://toolserver.org/~junaid/transliteration/test.html utilising this standalone tool. You may test it. The tool is working fine for the case 'ma me mi mo mu' = 'म मॆ मि मॊ मु'. So it is sure we can fix the issue. It is true that webkit does not allow we to place the caret within a ligature(?) combination, even programatically. So even using my standalone tool we cannot change 'म' to 'कम' by simply placing caret before म and typing 'ka'. Because, when we type 'k' just before to existing म it will form a ligature 'क्म', then webkit will outsmart (as you said) by jumping caret at the end of 'क्म'. But, we can overcome this issue by overwriting entire word. So current situation can be improved either by improving jquery.textSelection.js or using code from my standalone version of the tool. Another reason to like Firefox. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug. ___ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l

https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=30130 --- Comment #12 from Junaid junu...@gmail.com 2011-08-02 11:46:08 UTC --- I didn't say the code overwrite entire word :( The magic is happening in replaceString(). The function splits the string in the field to three parts (not considering middle part), then recombines it it back using replacement (variable named newString) as middle part. Then adjust the caret to new position. So it does not fail in replacement. https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=30130 --- Comment #13 from Brion Vibber br...@wikimedia.org 2011-08-02 12:02:04 UTC --- Hmmm... that seems to work by replacing the *entire text* of the input area. Won't this be fairly inefficient for interactive typing on article-sized textareas? A quick test copy-pasting about 170k worth of text from Sanskrit Wikipedia into the textarea on your test page confirms that it's ry to type in in Chrome 12. In Firefox 5.0.1 it's not as slow but causes lots of visual artifacts -- flicker as the text redraws, and the scrolling jumps around. I suspect that's why this code was replaced with the $.textSelection() calls in the first place... Actually the current code is still pretty slow in Chrome 12 with a large input text -- not sure if it's the replacement or if it's something else like the regexes. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug. ___ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l

Can we please get back or describe a usecase for this ? The original request wanted to the author username and/or permalink to the first revision, that's not what introducing {{PAGEID}} will do. No, that was just miscommunication. The author did clarify his original intentions later on: The purpose of this bug was to get an ID which is not changeable as editing for a certain page progresses over time. (...) {{PAGEID}} would serve this purpose and to have it would be very cool. At some later point there were references to *JavaScript* variables named wgArticleId which already work in MediaWiki and have been for sometime, so we won't need {{PAGEID}} in *wikitext* for that. We do if we want to use it in templates, as Bawolff suggested. I'm in general a bit leery on introducing magic words, especially ones that work on top of technical implementation details which are usually not interesting to the user. I think Bawolff's short link proposal would be of interest. Granted, curid links aren't supposed to be a 100% stable permalinks, but the uses for a short url are mostly ephemeral / informal. For example, to share a Signpost article on Twitter, etc. It's not a big deal if the link eventually rots, especially since that's very unlikely (tough not impossible) to happen. In any case, we do rot links daily when deleting articles, so I don't think this should be an impediment. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. Just asking for a quick sanity check that this will work as intended. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. [Bug 30171] invalid url on Sitematrix for officewiki and testwiki
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=30171 --- Comment #7 from merl bugrepor...@to.mabomuja.de 2011-08-02 15:29:50 UTC --- The problem why i reported this bug is, that this causes parse errors if a bot framework expectes a valid url. According to RFC 1738 a scheme is always needed. The only solution would be to return the same protocol as used for the http(s) request. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug.
