But it's not guaranteed that a page will have a comma either. So once
$wgArticleCountMethod is available, it would be best to set that to any for
Wikibooks.

How can a Wikibooks page be considered good without a comma?

When you set $sfgCacheFormDefinitions = true, and then go to the form page,
instead of seeing Form:Title_of_the_form in big bold letters, you see Form
definition title for caching purposes. I'm seeing this with SF 2.2-alpha.

Different namespace numbers on different wikis shouldn't matter.

I think it does if you manage multiple wikis. AFAIK in many places in the
config the Namespace constants have to be used in ascending order. So config
maintainers actually are NOT independent of which number is behind which
symbolic constant. That makes configurations non-portable, unless you enforce a
global namespace policy on all of your wikis.

Am I correct?

I found that this not currently the case. Neither special property gets applied

I found that the 'Creates pages with form' special property does not imply the
setting of the 'Has default form' special property. This would make sense,
especially when there are many pages to create, and they are only created
slowly.

I guess, if explicitly set, a 'Has default form' would override the implicit
setting from 'Creates pages with form'.

Of course this isn't urgent, but I think it's good to get even minor issues
into the tracker.

That sounds messed up I don't see how that config's order should matter to the
code that uses it. And if it does matter then that is a bug that should be
fixed.

Also with a namespace registry, namespaces would probably start to be managed
by a user interface which would likely replace manual use of that config
anyways.

It would be good if you could query for pages where a certain property has not
been set to any value.

For example:

I would like a query that will list the pages that have ended up with no value
set for these properties, so I can check whether a user has made a mistake or
if we really no longer need that resource. But I can't work out how to do it...

It would still be nice to have the equivalent to 'if !isset(x)' available to
avoid having to use a dummy NULL value.

I guess a good syntax would be Some prop::!, for example:

This fits with the style of the opposite query for pages where the property is
set (to any value):

Just an idea (although I understand the issue here isn't one of suitable
syntax, but rather efficiency of SQL).

In the situation as it is, you will
have to use //wikipedia.org instead of just
 //wikipedia.org.
This is worse, and explizitly the fullurl:-thing will break a lot. So I
 think,
at least for our own domain(s) we have to enable un-bracketed links.

Yes, using to produce a clean link doesn't work any more. This
 is
 known and deliberate.

Deliberated? It don't think this is good practice. Apart from breaking
existing
links, it will make linking more user-unfriendly. Who would use
[ http(s)://xyz?abc]? As a only-fullurl-link doesn't work
any more, users will copypaste a protocoll-absolute, correctly (better: as
intended) parsed link. Is that userfriendly?
Yeah, you're right that it's confusing. I figured that it would also be
confusing if //anyWordThatStartsWithTwoSlashes would be linkified
automatically, so I disabled that behavior deliberately. But I didn't consider
the fullurl use case you brought up.

Yes, but not both link formats. I said that enabling the bracketless format
for
just a configurable set of sites (the proposed knowing-for-sure domains)
wouldn't be better, why don't we allow just everything?
I think you may be misinterpreting Brion's words, and I think those words
themselves were unclear to begin with. I never suggested limiting
protocol-relative URLs to select domains, although it may be a way out of the
we-don't-want-every-word-beginning-with-slash-slash-to-be-linked problem.

Large numbers such as 82,000,000 get rendered as 8.2E+7 by one server and
8200 by another. The former is wrong and makes parsing numbers in
 templates
(such as val) impossible. A little investigation indicates that servers
named srv* render it as 8.2E+7 and servers named mw* render it as
 8200.
I've been told at the village pump that filing a bug here may help find the
 root cause and resolve it.

That's interesting.. It's suggesting the new builds are doing it right, but
potentially old builds/reinstalls aren't.
Hah, really? That would be very weird, you'd think it would've always been
broken then.

(In reply to comment #3)
Hey,

may I please have the number of the srv* server? *some* of those boxes have
been upgraded to Lucid, so this is a very important data point.

Because upgrading all of the apaches will not be done at one time (for
example,
now), is there any way to make parsing either format possible?
No, we should just fix whatever's outputting scientific notation to no longer
output scientific notation.

Enabled? You mean disabling the restrictions so that the displaytitle doesn't
have to normalize back to the page name ($wgRestrictDisplayTitle)?

Hi,
is it possible to add double wiki extension in Wikipedia sites
(en.wiki,...)?
it will be useful for comparing also translations between two wikis contents.

It would be possible, but you need local site consensus to enable this

[Bug 28277] Error when importing pages from English Wikipedia to Portuguese Wikibooks

2011-09-30 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28277

--- Comment #13 from mybugs.m...@gmail.com 2011-09-30 11:18:42 UTC ---
(In reply to comment #11)
From triage, mybugs.mail gave this set of steps for reproducing:

 I've filled the fields with Source wiki/page: [w:en] [Template:Min]
...and I marked only the option Copy all history revisions for this page
the point is that the en.wp templates are not always available

Just to clarify: this last line was refering to the workaround suggested by
Adrignola: to import a page from English Wikibooks instead of the English
Wikipedia. This is not always possible because the desired page/template may
not exist on English Wikibooks or may be outdated.

Note, from my local install I cannot reproduce this. Just to confirm,
importing
Template:Min using the interwiki prefix w:en from ptwikibooks and selecting
copy entire history and not selecting copy all templates, always fails (As
opposed to intermittently fails)?

The bug is not tied to any specific page/template. As already mentioned, it
failed with Template:0 and Template:Min but I can confirm it also
happens on a page such as 1500s, with the following options:

Source wiki/page: [w:en][1500s]
Destination namespace: [all]

and leaving both Copy all history revisions for this page and
Include all templates not selected. Enabling any of these two options or
changing the destination namespace doesn't change the situation, i.e., the
message is always Import failed: Expected mediawiki tag, got.

When blocking a user parameters wpTarget, wpReason and wpExpiry can be
specified using GET parameters. This doesn't work anymore for the other options
(checkboxes) like wpCreateAccount and wpWatch.

This used to be possible and is used in templates to specify sensible defaults
(ex.: http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sjabloon:Infobalk_waarschuwingssjablonen and
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Bot).

To reproduce, visit

The first checkbox should be unchecked, the last should be set, but thats not

[Bug 28302] Provide a way to easily affect content rendering

2011-09-30 Thread bugzilla-daemon

--- Comment #6 from Olivier Finlay Beaton olivier.bea...@gmail.com 2011-09-30

That's what I'm talking about. If you hook ArticleAfterFetchContent and check
that 'action' === ('view' || 'purge' || 'print') you only change the display.
True you have to change the cached display (you can invalidate the cache), but
you can't win at everything.

Of course a better hook that gets called every time would be nice (but provide
a bigger performance impact). Or a hook where we don't have to constantly tweak
for the types of display/export MW is doing.

[Bug 31259] Large numbers are rendered differently depending on which server is rendering them

--- Comment #5 from Roan Kattouw roan.katt...@gmail.com 2011-09-30 13:19:20

Despite pcache potentially messing things up, I have confirmed that srv186
(which runs hardy) returns 8.2E+7 while srv286 (which runs lucid) returns
8200. I confirmed this using echo $wgOut-parse( ); in
eval.php . I tried both 1.17 and 1.18 but there's no difference.

Also, scientific notation is only used in very few cases. The rules seem to be
like this:
* If the number is below a million (10^6), never use scientific notation. This
happens on both hardy and lucid
* If the number is above 10^14, always use scientific notation. This also
happens on both hardy and lucid (!!! so this was broken all along for numbers
greater than 100 billion)
* If the number is between 10^6 and 10^14, only use scientific notation if
there are /exactly/ two significant digits. This happens ONLY on hardy but NOT
on lucid.

Some examples:
echo $wgOut-parse( ); // less than a million
p87
/p
echo $wgOut-parse( ); // hardy: 1E14, two significant
digits
p8.7E+6
/p
echo $wgOut-parse( ); // lucid: 1E14, two significant
digits
p870
/p
echo $wgOut-parse( ); // three significant digits
p872
/p
echo $wgOut-parse( ); // one significant digit
p900
/p
// Big numbers 1E14:
echo $wgOut-parse( );
p9.0E+14
/p
echo $wgOut-parse( );
p9.4E+14
/p
echo $wgOut-parse( );

#REDIRECT (1) Ceres (132524) 2002 JF56

(In case you're wondering, I just went to commons:Special:AllPages and
picked a couple of links off the first page of results.)

Now create another page like 2 that contains a
link -- not a redirect -- to the page you just created.

Then go to 2002 JF56; you will see
that both of the pages you just created now show up in the list, as if the

I was wondering if someone could install that extension on MediaWiki.org, and
set:

$wgWebChatChannel = '#mediawiki';

The installer in 1.17 lists the extensions found by name, but does not select

I'd like to see SOME of those checkboxes on by default (like ParserFunctions),

specify two extensions as performing the same function but as alternatives (old
wiki editor vs new wiki editor, but still as checkboxes so you can install more

I guess that might be a seperate enh request

Being able to bundle a group of extensions into a single checkbox with 'expand'

Most of this seems so-so usefull right now but as we bundle more extensions
with the distro, or as packages like SMW+ include a lot, these would be great.

[Bug 31279] Installer: extensions improvements

Not a bad idea :) We've got the descriptions already available via
$wgExtensionCredits and such, so it shouldn't be too difficult to add those.

As far as grouping similar extensions -- that's a bit harder. We don't have any
defined groups of extensions (or any way of tracking dependencies yet).

The enabling some by default option would be ok iff: the admin doing the
installation goes to the more options page where they can review the
extensions. If someone says I'm bored now, just install, we should not enable
any extensions since they had no chance to peruse the list (least surprise).

Yaakov Shoham, thank you for your patch. Sorry for the wait in reviewing it!

Could you take a look at the most current version of MediaWiki (in Subversion
trunk) and see whether your patch still cleanly applies?

You might also want to float this idea past the translatewiki.net people, to
see if they have any ideas on how to implement this best.

include the additional (and desirable) feature of specifying which text fields
include the FCKeditor treatment.

bottom of the talk page
 Product: MediaWiki
 Version: 1.19-svn
 Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW

Component: Page editing
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org

Reading down to e.g., the 20th section of a Talk page, one naturally wants to
add the 21st section right below it. However all the add new section buttons
are way back up at the top of the page or way back up in the sidebar. There
should be an additional such button there at the bottom too.

For the default-on and 'similar' and 'groups' I was more thinking that this
would be be a package file, like InstallerSettings.php or something, where the
package maintainer would define the options based on what extensions they were
deciding to include.

If the extensions defined in InstallerSettings.php are not found then don't
show their similar/groups, or for example if there is only one extension in the
similar/group then just display it as a regular extension.

I don't think extension authors should be able to decide these things (always
install my extension, of course!)

(In reply to comment #2)
For the default-on and 'similar' and 'groups' I was more thinking that this

the
similar/group then just display it as a regular extension.

I've had similar ideas, but a different approach. I think there should be a
base MWExtension class that handles a lot of this, and each extension should
subclass it to provide their config, dependencies, etc etc.

I don't think extension authors should be able to decide these things (always
install my extension, of course!)

So who decides what's always enabled?

This is just about the installer. Per my previous post.
where the package maintainer would define the options based on what
extensions they were deciding to include.
So in the case of the mediawiki*.tar.gz package it would be the MediaWiki
community who puts it together. In the case of SMW+ it would be ontoprise,
etc...

config+dependencies are a great idea and something we also need, but this bug
is not about that. That would be a seperate enh request
