Hmm, I now have got one notification from 15 watched pages that were edited in
the past 24 hours, and a range of pages in a range of namespace.  Peculiar.

See [[Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh]] for an example of how this results in
categories taking up much more space than they should. There may have been
desire to allow a little more space between categories, but I doubt this much
extra space was intended.

The extra space around the categories is caused by the vertical line between
them. This used to be a pipe character, but is now something created in CSS.
The relevant tags are ,  and  but I have no idea which CSS file sets up
these ids and classes.

Having the links not wrap looks useful, we do that manually in navboxes all the
time. However, the gobs of extra spacing is useless, I also think it needs to
be toned down, maybe not to how it was before but certainly somewhat.

It was there before, but the text didn't wrap the same way so you didn't notice
it. If we're going to be using this {{nowraplinks}}-like style for categories,
we might as well make the separator work like {{middot}}.

CSS code for users' monobook.css/vector.css/common.css is listed (and works) at
de:Wikipedia:Fragen_zur_Wikipedia#MW118:_Kategorienanzeige. Although I am
tempted to suggest that this CSS code should be for everyone by default -
especially in monoboook.

For those who don't speak German, try adding this to either
Special:MyPage/common.css or Special:MyPage/skin.css:

I can see N and b tags on my watchlist, but not m for minor edit. All three
tags appear in article history listings. Running Firefox 7.0 on openSUSE.
Vector skin with the updates for bold N, b, m tags in common.css. Page reloaded
with shift-reload, still happens.

Note, I don't think this is a 1.18 regression. I believe the issue was present
in 1.17wmf1.

Fixed in r99332 (As a note to the Wikipedians who may be watching this: that
rev is not deployed as of yet)

Something to do with changing galleries from being a block element to weird
 inline-block thingy. Basically no linebreak before/after gallery so nav
links on same line (noticable when only a few items). See screenshot

I've got an issue with navigating through a large category using the next &
prev links.

If I view any large category which has a category toc (for example:
[[:Category:Hidden categories]] but any with a table of contents will do) and
then select a letter from the table of contents. When I then try to use the
previous 200 link, it does not work.

It'd be better to have MediaWiki simply wrap the first category in a distinct
class or ID. That shouldn't be very difficult to implement at all and would
remove the need for a pseudo-class altogether.

separator is always at the start of the next line, both of which are awkward
and goofy.

This can be resolved on a per-site basis, but the default should be saner.

HTTP Headers don't apply when the html doc has been saved to a machine. When
that happens the meta tag IS used to determine the charset, and if it's located
after the  than any UTF-8 in it breaks. I've had that issue before
myself when building things.

If this bug is going to persist for a while, it might be nice to address the
enhancement request in bug 31546.  Specifically, converting the treatment of
Math error messages to wikitext (from plain text) so that we can add tracking
categories to help identify which pages are having problems.  That way we can
deploy work-arounds if we have to.  Right now there is no easy way of knowing
how widespread the failed renderings are, though it is seems likely that they
are effecting many thousands of math and science pages.

The error messages for  are currently treated only as plain text.  This
means we can't add wikilinks or tracking categories to them.  It would be nice
if the Mediawiki messages for Math were processed as true wikitext, like we do
for Cite errors, for example.

This makes it harder to find and correct errors.

In the context of Bug 31442, which has resulted in a very large number of math
rendering errors, it would be much easier to know the extent of the problem
(and deploy work arounds, if necessary) if we could track which pages were
suffering from the bug.

Even if 31442 gets fixed soon, it would still be nice to have an easy way of
finding malformed math output in the future.

I edited the talk page and it has been implemented a couple of days ago.  What
is the time frame to get the interwiki database updated?  Says that it was last
run on 22 August.  Seems like quite a while between renditions.

Some AJAX features seem to have stopped working in 1.18. I report them
together, because they seem related; if they are not related i'll split them.

* When you click the "add to watchlist" star, the message "The page has been
added to your watchlist" is shown. Since the move to Vector until 1.18 the star
only changed its color, but now the pre-Vector is back. Somebody even reported
that he gets a whole new page saying that the page was added to the watchlist.

* When a patroller clicks "mark as patrolled", a new page is shown instead of
doing the AJAX in-page thingy.

* Some people reported that when they edit a page and click the "Preview
button", they get the message "Some parts of the edit form did not reach the
server", although i couldn't reproduce it myself. This only happens if the "Use
live preview" preferences is enabled, which again hints at an AJAX issue.

This happens in Wikipedia (en, he, ru) and in my test wiki, which runs the
latest trunk.

Well the specialpage class doesn't really have access to the parser object or
the OutputPage object when transcluding, so it can't really add them. Merging
the modules used in SpecialPageFactory::capturePath is probably the right
solution



This bug does not appear to be present on trunk. I'm not sure why...

I see many "we need to override" problems listed above, but I think it's really
simple.
Assuming the original implementation has been reverted (bug 6672 comment 26+), 
we have all the images correctly rotated (although EXIF may be wrong).
Add a new step on upload asking to rotate if the EXIF suggests it should be.
Show a couple of thumbnails there, so it's braindead which way the uploader
wants the image to be presented.
The invariant is preserved.

We don't have any guarantee that the EXIF data will be right (as we don't now),
but we don't rely on it either, so it's no problem.

If you want to be fancy, and completely optional, add an option to rotate from
the wiki UI, that makes the rotations as a reupload, even though everything is
done server side (what about big images?).

recently the ratings panel at the bottom of articles has been broken for me. I
used to be able to see the current rating averages (via a "display ratings"
link or something ... don't remember precisely what it was called). Now that
has gone, there is a cryptic green arrow and blue box whose purposes are
completely unclear, and when I assign a rating some unlabelled checkboxes and
an email address, again all of unknown purpose, also appear. Basically it's all
in a very broken-looking state, as if someone's currently in the middle of
playing around with coding some new features but hasn't yet finished.

We should probably add in code so that even if you do specify
includexmlnamespace then action=rsd ALWAYS uses a proper rsd namespace.

Not sure if this is the right place to report this, but I've noticed since the
recent upgrade that not all the tools are displayed whenever a new article is
created or some articles are edited. This is particularly true with the
redirect and ref tools. I thought at first it might be because I'd recently
changed my username, but this doesn't appear to be the case as it works with
some long-established articles. Apologies if this has already been reported.

no - Each website is supposed to have only one canonical form for its url
(canonical form would be what we send out on say email notifications and things
like that)


We're trying to make it so that the https and http version of a page are
identical, which is why just one form of the url is used on the bottom.

Purging that file (which reloads stuff from the db) made the history comment be
shorter again, so I think it was just a cached File object (However we should
be truncating on the php side)
