On de.wikipedia a user reported that the AJAX suggestions in monobook skin are
missing when using Safari 5. Since
 'list' in document.createElement( 'input' ) === true
this is probably solved with bug 31602.

Datalists seem to have problems in all browsers:
* Opera already is blacklisted
* Firefox doesn't increase the width, search doesn't start after user selects a
suggestion (bug 31654)
* Safari 5 doesn't show the suggestions at all (bug 31768)

Having two different implementations (native datalists vs. self-made list) is
confusing when you try to help others figuring out where the problem is, and
after the above list of browser bugs I can't believe that any other browser has
an implementation that is usable in every situation so I suggest to set
window.os_use_datalist = false
again, i. e. revert revision 79363.

I don't know whether this worked in 1.17, if so then it's related to bug 30909.

[Bug 31771] New: Conflicts with Graphviz

 Bug #: 31771
   Summary: Conflicts with Graphviz
   Product: MediaWiki extensions
   Version: any
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: Unprioritized
 Component: FCKeditor
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: thijs.vanderkr...@besi.com
Classification: Unclassified

If I activate the media wiki extension FCKeditor the graphs (rendered by
Graphviz) are corrupted. Example

1. Edit a page
2. Change editor from FCKeditor to WikiTextEditor
3. Input the following text and save the page

 -
 graphviz border='frame' format='png'
 digraph example1 {Hello-World!}
 /graphviz
 -

4. Page shows a picture of the above described graph.
5. Edit the page
6. The FCKeditor shows only the picture of the graph.
7. Changing editor from FCKeditor to WikiTextEditor corrupts the graph source
to this

 -
 map name=ReleasePlanning---digraph+example1/map

[[File:|This is a graph with borders and nodes. Maybe there is an Imagemap
used so the nodes may be linking to some Pages.]]
 -

8. When changing the editor back to FCKeditor the picture is no longer
displayed. It just shows the above text.
9. Changing to WikiTextEditor again further corrupts the graph source to

 -
 lt;map name=ReleasePlanning---digraph+example1gt;lt;/mapgt;

#x5B;#x5B;File:|This is a graph with borders and nodes. Maybe there is an
Imagemap used so the nodes may be linking to some Pages.#x5D;#x5D;
 -

Because the CFEditor is started by default I'm unable to edit pages containing
graphviz graphs, without loosing the graphs..

Thiis is addressed in r100020. The font size is very big- 1.7 MB for TTF and
EOT, ie for very old Firefox versions and Old IE , this is not nice- at least
for slow internet connection. For all new browser users the download size is
400 KB(WOFF format)

We need to get feedback from the native users on this, they can try in
translatewiki.

Someone has made a change at
http://svn.wikimedia.org/viewvc/mediawiki/branches/wmf/1.18wmf1/extensions/ProofreadPage/ProofreadPage_body.php?r1=97502r2=99979pathrev=12

and this has broken the scripting in that the hard return (LF) has been placed
BEFORE the noinclude tag and now adds a pagination line to all terminations
and **now breaks things on every edited page**. :-(

I do not believe that Phe's suggested change at
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/attachment.cgi?id=9173action=diff has been
successfully implemented.

[Bug 31774] New: Tamil 99 scheme has a bug

 Bug #: 31774
Summary: Tamil 99 scheme has a bug
   Product: MediaWiki extensions
   Version: any
  Platform: All
   URL: http://ta.wikipedia.org
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Keywords: i18n
  Severity: normal

ReportedBy: srik@gmail.com
CC: gmeijs...@wikimedia.org, junu.pv+pub...@gmail.com,

Classification: Unclassified

Santhosh and myself discussed this bug over and we found that there are more
rules which are present in standard Tamil typing tools like
e-kalappai,nhmwriter,IBUS and missing in Narayam. Filing the below bug the user
reported. I would test other cases and report more bugs soon with examples.

== Report from User ==

I started testing today this Tamil99 in Tamil Wikipedia while in Firefox 7.0.1
on Ubuntu 10.04 OS. Found so far the following bug:

On pressing an Akara-consonant 3 times or more, that is in cases of udanilai
meimmayakam | உடனிலை மெய்ம்மயக்கம்- for example:

For the sake of this discussion say the key for க is referred to as key_h
(because in qwerty keyboard the key for h is used for Tamil99 க ) then

key_hkey_hkey_h should yield க்கக whereas the keymap here tested yields
க்க்க
key_hkey_hkey_hkey_h should yield க்கக்க whereas the keymap here tested
yields க்க்க்க

The further repetitions of the keystrokes should also yield the same
alternating pattern. That is as per the following:

i) When number of keystrokes is odd (greater or equal to 3) the last two
akara-consonants remain akara-consonants (examples க்கக, க்கக்கக .)

ii) When the number of keystrokes is even (greater or equal to 2) then the
penultimate akara-consonant gets pulli. (examples: க்க, க்கக்க, க்கக்கக்க
.)

Please note for the other meimmayakkam - that is ஒத்திசைவு மெய்ம்மயக்கம் cases
this bug is not seen - examples: ங்கங, ங்கங்க, ஞ்சஞ, ஞ்சஞ்ச,

it should no more be an issue for windows user.

[Bug 235] Auto unit conversion

2011-10-17 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=235

--- Comment #38 from tahrey tah...@yahoo.com 2011-10-17 13:23:02 UTC ---
I'm sorry... what?

The converter, because I happened to feed it a number that happens to be a
multiple of ten units, is arbitarily then assuming that it's being asked to
convert to an accuracy of +/- 5 units rather than +/- 0.5, even though I'm
writing the figure the same way as I did the ones either side? So if I have a
series of numbers from 1 to 100, I will have to make the required accuracy
explicit for 10% of them? I'm having a lot of trouble seeing how this can be
considered correct, or even acceptably wrong.

So if I entered some data on a set of vintage cars, that one had a recorded top
speed of 68mph, and another that had a recorded top speed of 70mph, coming to
the edit wiki not knowing of this abberant behaviour, or of what the actual
km/h equivalents were, but having seen the Convert tool used elsewhere, may
well copy and paste said thing into my article and thereby tell metric-using
readers that these cars achieved the same top speed?

No. This is dumb. The sensible way of approaching these things is that if a
number has been entered with no decimal point, then you convert to the nearest
whole-unit equivalent in the target units, unless there is a huge enough
difference that there would be a serious loss of accuracy (e.g. one set of
units is 200x smaller than the other, in which case you insert a couple
decimals). If it is entered with a certain number of decimals - including
70.00, for example - you convert to match that number (again, adjusting if the
target is hugely different). For large non-decimal numbers where standard form
is not used, then the user should then have to specify the accuracy they wish
to display. Reduced accuracy should not be the default, because then you have a
problem - as in this case - of the unwitting user having written a
multiple-of-ten (or multiple-of-100!) figure without a decimal, but meaning it
to be unit-accurate... as is the case with the arabic numbering system... and
not having a way of making that explicit... but your system goes and assumes
that it's one significant figure instead of two or three.

There's a place for assuming how many sig figs are used depending on what
number you use, maybe even for assuming ludicrously low ones (like... one!
which is your suggestion... i'm pretty sure my own math and sci teachers
recommended never using less than 3 if it could be at all helped; so 70 becomes
113, 55 becomes 88.5... that's not OTT, now, is it?), but this ain't it. We're
not in a science lab or using some degree level maths tool, but putting out a
relatively simple and easy to understand webpage editing interface for the
world's laypeople to update a general knowledge repository with.

The option should be left there, but the default behaviour should be different.
Alternatively, explicit definition of accuracy within the convert tag should be
made mandatory for all conversions and a sensible default retroactively applied
using a bot to all the existing ones where it isn't.

Please reconsider.

[Bug 31775] New: Improved version of PdfHandler

   Version: any
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: Unprioritized
 Component: PdfHandler
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: vita...@yourcmc.ru
Classification: Unclassified

I want to suggest some improvements for PdfHandler:
* Respect page rotation (fix for Bug 22194 - pdfinfo doesn't respect it) - it's
very simple to get page information from PHP code, so I've done it.
* Direct rendering without ImageMagick rescaling step, also fixes possible
memory/tempfile/performance issues on high DPIs.
* Ghostscript options for better rendering (-dUseCropBox -dTextAlphaBits=4
-dGraphicsAlphaBits=4)
* Thumbnails now link to correct individual pages of PDF.

I have commit access to extensions now, am I allowed to create my own branch
for review? Or where should I commit my work for review? (The most dubious of
all this is probably the multiple page thumbnail feature)

[Bug 235] Auto unit conversion

2011-10-17 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=235

--- Comment #39 from tahrey tah...@yahoo.com 2011-10-17 13:32:40 UTC ---
* tell metric using readers that they achieved a speed only 1km/h apart, not 3
(or more accurately 3.2)

Ehh... Guess I shoulda double checked that one before posting. Still, let's say
instead that one car reached 69mph and the other 70; without cross referencing
one against the other, a mph-illiterate metric reader would then get the
message that the slower car actually ran faster. Or a metric-illiterate one
looking at articles of a 70mph and 71mph one ends up thinking that 1mph =
4km/h.

The syntax for the convert tool can just be straight copied from one article to
another without the editor responsible looking at any kind of instruction text
or even being aware that there IS any (hi there, I did that too). It has to
work in a sensible manner by default, and the advanced weirdo stuff should be
an add-on for those who go looking for it. That or it's built into the syntax
explicitly and it throws an error if it's not there. Making it run in an overly
inaccurate manner that has to be purposely escaped from is just asking for
trouble.

Otherwise if we take this to the extreme and apply it the other way round, you
get the troublesome situation of, e.g., a page on the speed limits in a
european country mentioning that it's 90km/h (60mph) because of the 1sf
conversion... and depending how strict the local police are, going at 97km/h
instead of 56mph could be enough for a ticket. Being 5mph out at the ~30mph
limit level is definitely enough in a lot of places.

The workaround, for me, would be to add an exception to HTTPS everywhere.

Yes, you can create your own branch. Or even make the changes in trunk if they
are straightforward enough (I recommend you separate the changes on its own
revision, don't perform a big commit fixing a dozen different things).

In WikiEditor, if you use the Link dialog (or any other 'dialog') to insert
text into the edit box, then press control-Z, the edit does not get undone.
This is true of all the supplied dialogs, including one I custom-developed.

Confirmed in IE 8.0.7600.16385 and Chrome 14.0.835.202m, on English Wikipedia
today.

Works correctly in Firefox 7.0.1.

Other buttons and dropdowns work fine, allowing undo with ctrl-Z.

[Bug 6672] EXIF orientation (rotation information from digital cameras) should be used in images

2011-10-17 Thread bugzilla-daemon

--- Comment #56 from Neil Kandalgaonkar ne...@wikimedia.org 2011-10-17
17:50:44 UTC ---
Oh, never mind. I had a setting in my account to not auto-rotate my images.

A friend of mine who works there says that, unless the user has turned off
auto-rotate, EXIF Orientation is used to physically rotate the thumbnails as
they are generated (which is a one-time event at Flickr).

I do remember this long conversation about stripping EXIF from all thumbnails,
which still seems to be the policy.

Using the #switch ParserFunction, if the default result contains a tag with an

Tested live on wikipedia.org
MediaWiki 1.18wmf1 (with ParserFunctions Version 1.4.0)

MediaWiki 1.17.0 (with ParserFunctions Version 1.4.0)

In the following tests, the 5) will not display anything.

This is a general problem with the preprocessor and also present, when using
span with style in numbered templates param (like some user does in signature).

The preprocessor is spliting into name/value at the = and that breaks it. Look
at the xml parser tree on [[Special:ExpandTemplates]].

For that reason the #default= is there. For numbered templates you can use 1=.

Ploticus definitely has to be replaced, unless it will support non-Latin fonts
and right-to-left text (See Bug 4030 and Bug 30790). I will probably replace it
with Pango-Cairo.

Replacing Perl with PHP is probably a good thing, as much as i love Perl, but
it seems like a much bigger thing. I am now refactoring the current Perl code,
to understand the EasyTimeline syntax better. After that the translating of
Perl to PHP, if anyone will be interested.

However: I do think that moving forward only with Comment 5, and disregarding

reflecting that is fine by me. (Spinning off #1 and 2 into separate bugs and
closing them, for instance..I really don't know how to best handle it.)

Somewhere between 1.16.2 and 1.16.5 atom feeds were broken. On the latter, an

Notice the LF at the beginning on 1.16.5. This causes most browsers to barf
(interestingly, Safari 5.1 on a Mac doesn't). Here is the error message from
opera (which is more informative than the one from firefox):

[Bug 31449] Canon EOS-1D Article has extra width on Android app

--- Comment #4 from Yohei Shimomae yohei.shimo...@nitobi.com 2011-10-17
20:54:06 UTC ---
So the quickest and clean way to solve this right now is to add the next lines
of CSS to wikipedia mobile site (this needs to be done from the actual wiki
site and not the app as trying to do this from the app will run into
crossdomain error):

img {
height: auto;
max-width: 100%;
}

This will prevent all the images from going beyond device width. Please note
that this applies to all images on the site while this additional CSS is in
place. So this also affects to image detail page (e.g.
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Canon_EOS-1D.jpg) but not the link to the
actual image (e.g.
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/a4/Canon_EOS-1D.jpg).

This styling won't affect tables and non-image elements.

[Bug 31784] New: Video images are not centered in galleries

2011-10-17 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=31784

   Web browser: ---
 Bug #: 31784
Summary: Video images are not centered in galleries
   Product: mwEmbed
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: trivial
  Priority: Unprioritized
 Component: Video player
AssignedTo: d...@ucsc.edu
ReportedBy: platoni...@gmail.com
Classification: Unclassified

See for instance
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Videos_from_Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2011
The gallery loads with the mediawiki thumbnail centered, but then mwEmbed
changes them and their thumbs are left aligned.

[Bug 31756] API requests fail on SSL

2011-10-17 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=31756

--- Comment #4 from MZMcBride b...@mzmcbride.com 2011-10-17 22:28:58 UTC ---
I just tested logging in to https://en.wikipedia.org/ via the API
(https://en.wikipedia.org/w/api.php) and it seems to be working fine for me.
Are there (still) steps to reproduce a failure? Otherwise, I'm inclined to mark
this bug resolved as fixed or worksforme.

[Bug 31785] New: ext.codereview.js should ensure type string before calling indexOf (Uncaught TypeError)

 Bug #: 31785
Summary: ext.codereview.js should ensure type string before
calling indexOf (Uncaught TypeError)
   Product: MediaWiki extensions
   Version: any
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: ASSIGNED
  Keywords: javascript
  Severity: major
  Priority: Unprioritized
 Component: CodeReview
AssignedTo: krinklem...@gmail.com
ReportedBy: krinklem...@gmail.com
CC: innocentkil...@gmail.com, s...@reedyboy.net
Classification: Unclassified

Since the highest alphabetical tag on MediaWiki.org is now '10' (which is
nicely converted to a Number by jQuery UI Autocomplete), there are

Uncaught TypeError: Object 10 has no method 'indexOf'

errors on all MW.org Special:Code pages whenever a tag is entered.

[Bug 31782] [Regression] Protocol-relative urls should be linked in wikitext

From
http://svn.wikimedia.org/viewvc/mediawiki/trunk/phase3/tests/parser/parserTests.txt?revision=99289view=co:

!! test
External links: protocol-relative URL in free text is left alone
!! input
//example.com/Foo
!! result
p//example.com/Foo
/p
!!end

Free (unbracketed) protocol-relative links are not magically linked. Bracketed
protocol-relative links continue to work as expected. I think this bug is
invalid.
