Tests for this does not isolate the classes under test but tests the complete
underlaying stack, up to and including the API classes. That is it is an
integration test for the API modules and the layers (classes) below.

Hi, I have been having very painful upload problems at the Commons for months.
I usually upload PDFs, some small (2-3M) and some large (~50M).

For months already I have not been able to upload anything larger than the 2-3M
range (small files), and even those can easily take half an hour or longer.

Large files take many hours, sometimes I've left them overnight (!) and they
always crash and fail in the end. I haven't uploaded a single large file in a
great many months.

I've tried with both the new upload page and the old one.

Steps to replicate:

- Create a form
- Create page xyz with the form
- Modify the form and add radiobutton field abc, mandatory, with default=Yes
and values=Yes,No
- Edit page xyz
=> Field abc will show None, Yes, and No, and None will be set.  If you save it
without changing it, a warning will show up telling you that it needs to be set
(to Yes or No).

The basis for SF is to not automatically modify existing data.  But in this
case, the field didn't exist since it wasn't on the original page.  Setting it
to the default in this case seems resonable and consistent, especially when
considering that the field may not be obvious on the form (e.g. way down the
page, or on tab 5, or under a hidden area, etc.).

{{#titleparts:{{FULLPAGENAMEE}}|1}} returns "User talk:Myusername 286" instead
of the expected "User_talk:Myusername_286" from using "{{FULLPAGENAMEE}}" (with
the extra e).  If it was intended to get "User talk:Myusername 286", I would
have used  {{#titleparts:{{FULLPAGENAME}}|1}}. Until #titleparts is fixed, I
think I will have to use
{{#replace:{{#titleparts:{{FULLPAGENAMEE}}|1}}| |_}}.  Thank
you.

With several wikis (1.20alpha, 1.18.0), logins fail if I set
$wgCentralAuthCookies=true. I thought setting up the cache settings would
resolve the issue previously, but ultimately it did not.

This is browser independent. I have a single domain with wikis in
subdirectories, and I have all the settings set as the extension developer
recommended.

Most people prefer opening search results in new tabs when given a choice. So
it is not logical to mark this as WONTFIX. More and more Firefox search addons
also offer a choice of opening search results in new tabs. When you go to
Google do you go to a new tab to search, or do you search in the same tab, and
cover the page that caused you to want to do the search? Is it logical or sane
to cover up the page you want more info about?

That's the precise argument against adding a preference. If almost nobody
changes it--sane universal behavior is preferred.

I agree with everyone above who said this should be a gadget instead -> being
bold and marking this WONTFIX.

I can live with either option being the default. But right now the user does
not have a choice. The user can only open in the same tab. A preference gives
logged-in users a choice. In addition, putting a search link in the sidebar
gives all users a choice (both logged-in and non-logged-in users). So I think
there should be a preference, and a search link in the sidebar. Many registered
users do not change their preferences much, if at all. So a sidebar link helps
the most users.

The enforcement of link opening in new windows / tabs is quite a bad idea. You
are stripping of the choice of the user to open in a new tab or not. Don't do
that. If you like it, enable this gadget for you - but don't default to that.
It is annoying if websites try to alter the browser's default behaviour (that
was in the late 90s... we are in 2012 now!).

Some preferences have been removed entirely, or can't be changed back, so
apparently this is not a problem. I really don't see how it could be for
something which is set each time before saving.

Agreed. It's ok if we set the expectation of watchlist emails for new editors,
but futzing with the preferences of not-so-new folks without warning is
probably a bad idea.

Yah, I don't think it's huge for downloading, but it is causing a performance
issue for people on slow networks. The complaint was about sound quality due to
the downloading issue, not bandwidth. But a cache solves both.

Changing the preferences of hundreds of editors without asking (even if they
can change back) is just going to annoy them.

I suspect someone clever will come up with a good way to resolve the key issue
here - the different between "default to" and "never changed" for older users -
and then the same changes to default settings can be made without annoying
hundreds of editors.

The update also seems to have affected old users who merely never specified a
preference, rather than just new users...? That's going to annoy people who
deliberately didn't set it.

The normalization done in the API during lookup should probably be reported
somehow. Also note that there are both normalization and redirects in the
present system.

Normalization is always done, while redirects is something the normal API must
be told to follow.

Take for example a look at the URL for "_noreg" at no.wp
(http://no.wikipedia.org/w/api.php?action=query&prop=info&titles=_noreg&format=jsonfm&redirects)
and what it reports back. It will report both a normalization for "_noreg" into
"Noreg" and then a redirect from "Noreg" into "Norge" (first form is Nynorsk,
last form is Bokmål).

If the requested site-title pair is not equal to the site-title pair in the
found item the normalized form should be reported in the API. 

Not all wikis have the same set of namespace aliases, and the same namespaces
can have different name in different languages. There are also "canonical
names" for the namespaces that is reported and available for the browser. For
example a page in the "Bruker" ("User") namespace in no.wp will have the
following definitions

There are several values in there that can be interesting, but those are the

the page (Note that wgPageTitle has an "invisible" namespace)

Short answare seems to be to use the "wgCanonicalNamespace" and "wgTitle" to

canonical name among the wikis I believe, but I have not checked. The important
thing is to avoid "wgPageName" as it is now.

The documentation for the upstream keyword is "Marker for bugs waiting on fix
from upstream software vendor. Bugs marked this way *should* include a link to

Sound performance report on Galaxy Nexus 4.0.3 suggests sound files are
downloaded each time they are clicked (and pronunciations tend to be clicked
over and over again as someone tries to memorize it.) This is both a
performance issue and a data use issue.

PS - I may have been incorrect in saying that Philippe experienced this on
Firfox. I now see that in a previous report, he said his browser was
Chrome,18.0.1025.142, on Mac OSX Lion 10.7.3. I still cannot reproduce on my

On the Article Feedback Form, there are a couple presentational issues in
overlay mode that should be addressed before wider deployment.

1. Learn More link has a strange box around it
There should be no box, just a text link. See attachment 1
(Feedback-Form-CTA-Edit-Learn-to-Edit-Link-Bug-04-29.png).

2. White title (Help improve this page is shown in white letters)
The text should be black, not white. See attachment 2
(AFT5-Feedback-Form-Missing-Title.tiff) This was reported by Philippe on Mac
Firefox. I cannot reproduce on my end, but take his word for it. He showed me
the problem in person, see his note below.

On the article [[Barack Obama]], I got the AFT5 box, properly.  When I clicked
it, I can tell that it's supposed to be titled Help improve this article, but
it's white text on a light background.  It's almost illegible.

There's no reason why the indexer couldn't pull in categorylinks instead of
whatever its doing now (parsing wikitext?) but we are currently short on
resources when it comes to developing around lucene.  An upgraded search
infrastructure with real-time indexing and greater accessibility around index
definitions could open the door to all sorts of features that aren't currently
practical in mediawiki at wikipedia scale.

The default behaviour of many of our upload tools, scripts, and the
UploadWizard is to insert the data from the upload process into the upload log
description entry -- for example, see a random file uploaded with UploadWizard
.

However, hiding the upload log entry containing inappropriate information does
not completely remove the data from the wiki, for it is still visible in the
"Summary" box visible on the file description page -- in this example, here
.

To remove the data from the box, one needs to re-upload a file again, and
suppress the edit summary -- please have a look at a real life example at
.

As both the edit summary and the upload log entry contain the very same data,
it would be nice to have the ability to hide the edit summary while hiding the
upload entry log (and the other way round).

Is there a easy way to find out what actually uses the end results of the php
symlink? So it might be easier to kill it off (I know the wikipedia.org welcome
mat for one…)

Maybe it is still a bit more complemented then I thought since we didn't care
about archives since we had non, But do we really care the current subscriber
list, As pointed out if we don't move them over, It would allow people to work
out if they still want them… then we could just do a new list without the
rename and advertise that.

I just tried with my Nokia E75 (Symbian S60v3, or in full: version
202.12.01.236.04), and the site works as it should.

Could you specify which device and which software version you have? I found my
version under:
- Main menu;
- then the control panel or something (translated back from Dutch it is
'management panel');
- then 'telephone';
- and lastly 'application management' (when you click it, it suddenly has
'device management' as title).

Reopening, It's not that bad of process (especially for this list, since we
don't need as much). And the SVN -> Git change over doesn't change anything
with out desire for a ML from my understanding.

I'm going to close this as a WONTFIX, renaming a mailing list is a bit of
lengthy process and in this case it seems clear that it's not too necessary,
and well we've moved from Subversion to Git so this may even be an obsolete
mailing list for the majority of people.

PS: Remember that when MW 1.19 went live, it caused the default option "HTML if
very simple or else PNG" to be replaced by "Always render PNG", and there were
complains about that because the old default was better than PNG in some sense.
So this bug would be the way to "restore" the previous "better than PNG"
default.
