[Bug 22170] Customise Bugzilla front page to have more useful links
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=22170 --- Comment #23 from MZMcBride b...@mzmcbride.com --- (In reply to comment #21) (In reply to comment #20) Including a screenshot of what can happen with the new HTML and old CSS That's probably bug 49474. Not sure if there's anything that can be done. I think the Bugzilla template allows for directly editing the relevant link tag. In a situation like this, you generally can just append a string (such as the date) to the end of the href attribute. For example: link rel=stylesheet href=skins/contrib/Wikimedia/vector.css media=screen / might become... link rel=stylesheet href=skins/contrib/Wikimedia/vector.css?2013-06-15 media=screen / In any case, it's not a big deal and there are a lot of stylesheets included in a Bugzilla page (more than I expected, frankly), so this probably isn't worth the hassle. I just found the situation curious and noteworthy. (In reply to comment #22) Looks different, that's defined by Liangent as intermittent. I only had to hard refresh... Truth be told, I'm still not sure how those streaks of color got in there. In my browser, they aligned under three of the links very neatly. I saw screenshots from other browsers where they were not aligned. Very strange. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. What will be the experience for new users if they can only edit some parts of articles ? There has been a recent change. You're right that the section editing default has changed for people who opted in to VE. However, if you've never changed any editing preferences (most registered users), you are still using the old editor by default. That will change, assuming the random test works well and VE continues to improve. I think Timeshifter means the which will soon be all users part, and I agree that it would be very unfortunate. https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=48429 --- Comment #22 from kipod fur.hew...@gmail.com --- (In reply to comment #21) (In reply to comment #20) I read the discussion, and it seems nobody mentioned what i think is the real bug here: we have the edit source link, that drops you back to wikitext editor. The correct behavior for ve should obviously be to drop you to a section edit if the hser entered edit state through an edit section link. It does do so (in its own way). If you click a section-edit link, it currently enters VE edit-mode, and scrolls down to the section you clicked on, and places the cursor at the beginning of the section-header. no it doesn't. what i meant is that if you click on the edit section link, and then see something that requires wikitext editing and click edit source, you are dropped into old editor _for the whole page_. this means that there is no way to execute the old section edit in the wikitext editor. removing this existing functionality is a regression, and fixing it should be easy. fixing it meas that if you open the editor through a section edit link and then press edit source, you will be in the exact same state as someone who has VE disabled and pressed the edit section link. failing to fix this causes editors to disable VE (i know for a fact that i am not the only one who disabled VE because of this very reason). peace. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug. ___ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l

[Bug 47406] Incremental update: zimdiff zimpatch
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=47406 --- Comment #4 from Kiran Mathew Koshy kiranmathewko...@gmail.com --- Regarding zimdiff, which is the first phase of my GSoC project, here is the file format I'm proposing: The zimdiff tool will take two zim files as input. Lets call them start_file and end_file. The purpose is to generate a third file, diff_file, which can be used to update the contents of start_file to obtain end_file. Files: 1.start_file 2.end_file 3.diff_file File format for diff_file: The diff_file can be a ZIM file itself, with a few additional metadata entries. The articles(non-metadata) inside the diff_file will be: 1.the articles that have been added to the end_file, which were not present in start_file. These will share a common namespace. There will be a list of new articles in the metadata and their corresponding namespaces, so that the original namespace information is not lost. 2. Articles that have been modified.(the new version of the article).A list of articles that have been modified will be kept among metadata, and using this list, the old articles can be removed and the new articles inserted when the update is done. There is an alternate approach, using the patience-diff algorithm (used by git), which will take a much longer time to complete, given the huge number of articles. The alternate approach is as follows: For all modified articles, apply a diff(patience-diff preferred, since it will b) algorithm between the original and final article and store the output instead of the entire new article. Advantages: (i) Most of the updates in Wikipedia are tiny ones, so this approach will free a lot of space, and the zimdiff file would be considerably smaller. (ii) Computation is done in servers, and not very often(once in two weeks or so), so time isn't exactly a constraint. Disadvantages: (i) More complex algorithm, thereby prone (ii) More time required to compute. New articles in Metadata: 1. Hashes of the start_file and end_file. 2. List of new articles, and their namespaces 3. List of modified articles, and their corresponding old articles. 4. List of deleted articles. Please add your comments, especially on the method for storing updated articles. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug. ___ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l

[Bug 26508] Content Security Policy (CSP)
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=26508 --- Comment #10 from Christian Kujau li...@nerdbynature.de --- Firefox Chrome both have CSP enabled now. A single page load (6k article) gives multiple errors, here's how Chrome articulates this: --- times reported, per page | v 6 Refused to apply inline style because it violates the following Content Security Policy directive: default-src 'self'. Note that 'style-src' was not explicitly set, so 'default-src' is used as a fallback. 6 Refused to execute inline script because it violates the following Content Security Policy directive: default-src 'self'. Note that 'script-src' was not explicitly set, so 'default-src' is used as a fallback. 11 Refused to load the image 'xxx' because it violates the following Content Security Policy directive: default-src 'self'. Note that 'img-src' was not explicitly set, so 'default-src' is used as a fallback. So, we have 23 CSP violations on a single page. Without a special CSP header for the mediawiki installation, these resources are NOT loaded and the wiki page looks not really pretty. To make these warnings go away, the following CSP would be necessary: default-src 'self'; img-src 'self' data:; script-src 'self' 'unsafe-inline'; style-src 'self' 'unsafe-inline', But especially these unsafe-inline statemtents are not recommended. [Bug 48429] VisualEditor doesn't support section editing
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=48429 --- Comment #25 from Timeshifter zedlight...@gmail.com --- I like kipod's ideas (comment 22). I think to more fully support section editing means to make it easy to choose either editor at any time. Let me explain. If the Bartosz patch is implemented (comment 24), or some variation of it, there will be edit and edit source links or icons on every section. It would be wonderful if the edit source links or icons for sections also showed up inside the Visual Editor. The Visual Editor could treat edit source links or icons as uneditable links. But the link would still work. So people could click edit source links or icons to open source editing of a section. People could go to source mode editing at anytime, even from inside the Visual Editor. That would be so convenient and so useful. Later on, this functionality could be extended to anything the Visual Editor can't edit. People could click on templates, tables, etc. inside the Visual Editor and go directly to source mode editing of that section. Or they could right-click templates, tables, etc. to go to a new tab in source mode for that section. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug. ___ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l
[Bug 47832] Force all Wikimedia cluster traffic to be over SSL for all users (logged-in and anon)
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=47832 Ryan Lane rlan...@gmail.com changed: What|Removed |Added CC||rlan...@gmail.com --- Comment #8 from Ryan Lane rlan...@gmail.com --- Well, this bug seems a little politically charged... Are we considering the users that will completely lose access when this action occurs? Some countries completely block HTTPS, but allow HTTP. I dislike eavedropping by governments, but I also dislike not providing access to people too. The rough steps ops was looking at (but hadn't fully decided upon) were: 1. Redirect logged in users to HTTPS. Protecting credentials is important. I think forcing HTTPS here is sane. 2. Expand the HTTPS infrastructure, moving the terminators directly onto the frontends. Put in engineering effort so that we can distribute the SSL cache and switch to a round robin load balancer rather than the source hash one we're currently using. 3. Slowly soft-enable HTTPS for anons, by default, for smaller projects moving towards soft-enabling it on the larger projects as well. We can do this by using rel=canonical, with the https link being given. 4. Consider force enabling HTTPS via redirects. This action is difficult. We'll lock out users with this action. I think this should be a community decision (maybe per-wiki) and isn't up for discussion on bugzilla. 5. If HTTPS is force enabled, then enable HSTS to protect against downgrade attacks. Maybe we could offer a warning to folks on HTTP, saying that they should consider using HTTPS and that their communications can be monitored? Of course, we shouldn't do this until we can properly handle all anon traffic on HTTPS. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. Stop government from eavesdropping on the communication that they could just as easily get from reading Special:Recentchanges? Stop government from figuring out which articles somebody is reading? Well that's a goal I support, will SSL actually stop that? Assuming government can monitor the encrypted traffic going down the wire, they should be able to see how much traffic has been transferred. I imagine this somewhat uniquely identifies an article, especially when you consider images. OTOH, I suppose it makes figuring out which article they are reading more difficult, and you can't just snoop for keywords. OTOH SSL everywhere all the time certainly couldn't hurt. But that's a long process. Step 1 sounds like a reasonable starting point. [Not a security expert.
