[Bug 60278] New: Can't switch to admin account to delete while using bot account

2014-01-20 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=60278

   Web browser: ---
Bug ID: 60278
Summary: Can't switch to admin account to delete while using
bot account
   Product: Pywikibot
   Version: core (2.0)
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: Unprioritized
 Component: General
  Assignee: pywikipedia-b...@lists.wikimedia.org
  Reporter: nullzero.f...@gmail.com
Classification: Unclassified
   Mobile Platform: ---

Suppose in my user-conf.py has

usernames[...][...] = mybot
sysopnames[...][...] = myaccount

In the past, I couldnormally wrote pages as a bot, and when I wanted to delete
a page, I just called page.delete(). Then, my bot and my account will be
switched automatically.

[[gerrit:101613]] breaks this functionality. It uses
self.site.logged_in(sysop=True) which always return false if the account which
logged in at first is a bot. Note that self.site.logged_in also appears in
redirect.py which now is not functional too (in the same topic). In my opinion,
self.site.logged_in should never be used in any place because it does not
consider other accounts in user-conf.py.

[Bug 60178] enable Flow on two enwiki WikiProject pages

== TODO/Check list ==
Extension page on mediawiki.org: yes
Bugzilla component: yes
Extension in Gerrit: yes
Design review: yes
Architecture/performance re-review: no
Security re-review: no
Screencast (if applicable): no
Community support: uncertain

The above is a draft and may be wrong, but it's a start. While Flow has already
gone through a security review, given the numerous code changes, it should
probably go through another before being deployed further.

Patch is the first step. Right now the entries in CheckUser look like:

The diff and history links are broken, and there is no indication of what Flow
action was taken.

Bisecting shows that this started with the addition of "{{#ask:

worked in the past.

Playing around with some queries shows that #ask'ing for categories with only
plain pages works (Category:Tools Access Requests), but for categories with
subcategories (Category:Events reports, Category:Linode) fails.

Currently, wikitech is running 1.8.0.5.

"format=debug" says (not failing):

Indeed, thanks for the correction. This vulnerability is not as bad as I
originally thought, but seeing IP addresses editing in the MediaWiki namespace
really does seem to point to larger issues at play.

Has anyone checked whether Flow interacts appropriately with CheckUser and
revision deletion/suppression?

It'd also help to revisit the standard deployment checklist. I wonder where
that template is...

Any page, but fixed content. It would replace the page with the
'flow-talk-taken-over' message, which in English is: 'This talk page has been
taken over by a [https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Flow_Portal
Flow board].'

I don't think anyone likes the png output. The graphing program used makes some
pretty ugly output, plus no bidi support. The main thing stopping someone from
changing it is it would represent a lot of work to rewrite the entire script.

For the curious, easytimeline can output svg, but that was semi-broken for
other reasons last time I checked.

Many would argue those aren't production wikis, but even if you consider them
to be - being enabled on a production wiki is not the same as being ready to be
enabled on a production wiki. So far in this bug MzMcBride has given quite a
compelling argument (imho) that the extension should get a security review
before being added to real wikis.

Looking at bug 60218, it seems that it was possible within the past two days to
use Flow as a major attack vector, including the capability to edit any page in
the MediaWiki namespace of a wiki. This was an immediate security issue
discovered only a couple of days ago.

The fact that Flow was capable of bypassing MediaWiki's layered security seems
to indicate larger fundamental architecture issues with how Flow is being
implemented. MediaWiki already has a series of robust APIs that prevent, for
example, edits going through without checking user permissions or spam
blacklists or the AbuseFilter or page protection or global blocks or range
blocks or

Given that serious security issues continue to be discovered in Flow, it's very
difficult for me to see how Flow could be ready for a huge, indisputably
production wiki (enwiki).

I believe Special:MostLinkedPages is disabled on Wikimedia wikis due to
performance considerations. It would be nice to at least get an estimate of the
cost involved (additional indices, space on disk, etc.) in making it work well
enough for a large site. Of course the "pagelinks" tables are probably some of
the largest.

This should be fully alphabetized, in my opinion. While people with intimate
knowledge of Wikimedia's structure can likely discern and explain the current
order, it seems like a lot more overhead than any value provided. A simple
alphabetical index is easier to maintain (including insertion), it's more
consistent with the other lists of databases (as far as I know), etc.

Bleeding edge (Not sure if its still bleeding edge) firefox and chrome support
VP9/Opus webm files. If we have such a file (or in some future where we
transcode to that format), we want those browsers to play it via tag.

Probably needs to make something like webmNativePlayer, but for VP9 webm's.

[Bug 60178] enable Flow on two enwiki WikiProject pages

2014-01-20 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=60178

Just to answer some of the questions above and (hopefully) clear up some
misconceptions:

1) "Is Flow ready for a production wiki?"

It's been live on not one but 3 production wikis (mediawiki.org, testwiki,
test2wiki) for over a month, so it's a little late for the rhetorical
speculation :)

2) "A few people have noted that quite recently (within the past few weeks, I
suppose) Flow didn't support user blocks and other anti-abuse features."

Flow is currently integrated with both AbuseFilter and spam blacklist and fully
supports registered and unregistered user blocks. There was a bug in early
January which caused IP blocks to not work, but we fixed it as soon as we
spotted it.

3) "Flow can't be enabled on any production wiki anywhere unless there is an
exit
strategy, i.e. a script to convert Flow discussions back to wikitext."

And there is precisely such a script :)

4) "As for most WMF software projects nowadays, all
wikis should be offered to pioneer, volunteering to the experimentation 1 to n
project/talk pages with x to y edits per month, for any given n, x and y."

That's an excellent idea :) Let's do it!

So, just to recap: we're only deploying to a couple discussion spaces where the
editor community has agreed to trial Flow, and this is explicitly a test of the
software aimed at making it better, hence the option to opt back out and return
all discussions back to wikitext at any time. This is *not* the final product,
and Flow will *not* be enabled globally without extensive feedback from the
people who use it and product/design iteration to address that feedback. Any
language Wikipedia or sister project interested in participating in this trial
phase is welcome to do so (I like Nemo's idea of asking folks to volunteer 1-2
pages to start; I'll see what the rest of the Flow team thinks).

We're currently sitting at version 3.2.9. Version 3.3.3 is the latest
available and there have been *several security releases* since we last
upgraded.

I'm told that RT #6674 (https://rt.wikimedia.org/Ticket/Display.html?id=6674)
is related to this as well.

[Bug 43266] Write and implement tests for Wikimedia's Apache configuration (redirects.conf, etc.)

2014-01-20 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=43266

BTW, this should be possible without Vagrant: Define a convention to determine
two port numbers per Jenkins job, patch the Apache configuration like it is
already in operations-apache-config.yaml to set up a http server on $PORT1 and
a https server on $PORT2, start Apache, run the tests, stop Apache, release the
locks/whatever for the ports. The tests should be in the
operations/apache-config itself so they can be updated in parallel to the
configuration.

Hi!

Some of the feeds are displayed in the local language. It makes it nearly
impossible for bots to parse informations. Moreover, every time the MediaWiki
system messages change, RegExps need to be changed.

To solve this problem, I propose that IRC bot writes every feed in a fixed and
universal language. If it hurst, some new channels may be created specifically
for bots to get information.

Many thanks for your assistance !

Regards,
Quentinv57

betalabs on the same schedule as browser tests from the various other repos
already setup in CloudBees.

The point here is more to centralize js - js gets loaded with the iframe so
that we could avoid including the TMH loader js on all page loads, well at the
same time not have to keep track of which pages have a video on them.

[Bug 58478] Improve interface for MediaHandlers to add JavaScript

2014-01-20 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=58478

Within kaltura proper we do sandbox the player in an iframe, but we still make
use of parent javascript access for synchronous api ( postMessage is
asynchronous ) Also HTML fullscreen on iPads and IE's we need parent page
access to adjust the iframe layout to take up full browser page space.

The kaltura player uses a friendly ( same domain ) iframe, but this does not
reduce attack surface, since you can just jump up to the parent frame and run
any JS you want, furthermore you would have to structure things to server the
player iframe from another domain, to have any effect on 'attack surface'.

Also, you need to do tricky iframe injection strategies [1] to support one
click play on mobile chrome and iOS ( assuming we ever care about single click
to play user experience )
[1] https://github.com/kaltura/mwEmbed/blob/master/kWidget/kWidget.js#L935
Thouse injection strategies only work for same domain iframes.

And finally safari blocks cross domain iframe cookies, so any personalization /
customization / private media playback has to be structured post "click" in
iframe, or via url parameterization.

Having a separate rendering / entry point, has its own sets of risks, that
probably outweigh advantages of cross domain iframing the player.

I recommend we use normal precautions of localization string and api based
playback ( no more video payload injection )

I should have slept on it rather than dashing off a reply last thing at night.
I was somewhat taken aback by what I perceived as your tone. Ill-informed was a
poor choice of word on my part.

I get the impression that you think I'm suggesting splitting the notifications
into individually clickable items. That's not what I meant at all. This
proposal is only to change the clickable component from displaying a single
aggregate count to displaying a count separated into types. The behavior on
clicking would not change at all; a click received anywhere on the display
would trigger the menu and reset it to 0, just as at present. Does that make
sense?

For the Toolserver redirects to come, I wrote Gerrit change #108467 if that's
useful for this bug.

>(I can't 100% remember, this was the other day, but I think the for help

That part is fixed in Ibd95d533b9, however the main gist of this bug remains.
