  It's only on Commons and to reproduce you need a file with no structured data 
yet. First try doing an edit with "baserevid", you'll get a nasty API error 
(that's why I'm unable to use that).
  To reproduce just do two edits close to each other from different jobs.

  I think I know the answer to one question: why does this issue only affect 
the data type string, not e. g. external ID or URL? Because string is the only 
data type we parse in JavaScript.
  
  For every other data type, we parse the value in JavaScript by sending it to 
the `wbparsevalue` API and thereby calling the PHP parser. The PHP parser for 
strings is fairly simple, but one thing it does is remove leading and trailing 
whitespace, such as the `\r\n` that are causing the problem. (Another thing it 
does is Unicode normalization.) The JS parser doesn’t do this, so when the 
Wikibase frontend tries to send a string value that was parsed in JS (and 
therefore still has the `\r\n`) to the backend, there’s an error because the 
whitespace should have been removed. My proposed solution 
 is to 
stop using the JS `StringParser` and parse strings via PHP too, like all other 
data values.
  
  I have some idea about another question: why does this issue go away if you 
add and remove a space elsewhere in the string? Because ValueView already 
removes line breaks from the input. 
.
 It subscribes to the `eachchange` event and replaces all line breaks (DOS or 
Unix) with the empty string. Then why does the bug exist at all? That’s the 
part I don’t understand… at the HTML level, the `\r\n` is gone immediately 
after paste, but I guess it must be persisted somewhere in JS until the next 
time the input changes.

  We're seeing errors coming from our Termbox Service that look like this

 We’re trying to make sure that we have some understanding of the different 
types of timeout so that we can minimize them where possible. We're also seeing 
this 

 this flurry of related errors that we think is coming from some envoy thing.
  
  We didn't find a corresponding error from an App server that we were 
expecting to see (e.g. an error from Special:EntityData). Thus, we think our 
connection is perhaps having problems with envoy.
  
  So we wonder if those errors might actually come from the TLS envoy service 
that we don't really understand. How would we track down where those errors are 
coming from? Should we be taking any action about these?
  
  Maybe @akosiaris or JMeybohm might be able to give us a hint? We guess it

  We (@Michael + @toan + @Tarrow + myself) looked at the last 12 hours of those 
events. We could not immediately see a connection between the items of 
interest, but what stood out was that there seem to be bursts of those 
(`"Request failed with status 0. Usually this means network failure or 
timeout"`) happening.
  
  This leads me to the assumption that we are not dealing with problems which 
are caused by the termbox service in particular responding to individual 
requests in a poor fashion but instead that the infrastructure at those moments 
in time is facing challenges which are outside of our team's control. I thing 
we need someone with a better understanding of how the production hosting is 
currently set up (buzz words: tls-proxy, kubernetes) and insights about the 
health of similar services at the same time to not look at this problem at the 
wrong layer of abstraction, losing the majority of relevant data points in the 
process (e.g. no point in searching for "termbox" in kibana if we are in fact 
dealing with a network problem).
  
  //Possibly// related (proper write-up following):
  We are seeing our termbox service, when reaching out to the mediawiki API, 
occasionally receiving a 503 (e.g. 
).
 We are also seeing a very similar error from a TLS-proxy (e.g. 
)
  What we did not manage to track down is a corresponding error from an app 
server (MW; acting as API for the termbox service) which we would have expected 
to see.
  We wonder if the errors may have something to do with the "recent" move of 
termbox to TLS (T254581 ), which we 
don't know how it works, and how we would we track down those errors?
  
  (The few errors `Bad request. Language not existing` we saw while looking at 
this seem to be application-level problems and deserve a ticket)

  i wanted to bring this issue up over the meeting but i forgot. 
  why do we have different enviroments in prodcution (docker) and test 
(non-docker). doesn't that defeat the purpose of using docker (even if its a 
trivial issue)
  
  also, when we were working on the CI tihng, I saw there is no CI for the test 
env ? i.e. how about adding a all the deployment in the same deployment config 
file and trigger different actions based on the branch.
  
  here is a pseudo code for the config.yml
  
  on master push:
  
build and run tests
create artifcats (in this case build deocker images and push to our docker 
registry)
ssh into prod server and deploy (pull images from docker registry and run 
them)
  
  on feature push:
  
everything else stays the same expcept we do it on the toolforge server
  
  do you think this is over-kill?

docker-swift, at a very basic level though swift will send statsd metrics out, 
so **temporarily** you can send to `statsd.eqiad.wmnet` for testing purposes.

  It looks great! Here are a few comments:
  
  - I assume the constraint ids don't appear there because the quality 
constraints extension is not installed on this wiki, but would appear otherwise?
  - In the manifests that we use, we have currently added a `maxlag` setting 
(to know which `maxlag=` is recommended when making edits). I don't know if 
that is worth including in your version or if it is actually always going to be 
5 in all deployments…
  
  Also, there will inevitably be things that will need to be added to the 
manifest, as the tools ecosystem and the core platform evolves. For instance, 
say OpenRefine wants to display a note about the license used on the target 
Wikibase instance, to make sure users are aware of it. Assuming the 
WikibaseManifest extension has already been deployed on Wikidata and other 
Wikibase instances, what sort of process should we follow to add this? I 
imagine we need to file a Phabricator ticket to propose a syntax for the new 
field, submit a Gerrit patch to add it to the extension, wait for a new release 
and deployment? Do you already have some ideas about the sort of policy you 
would apply to these changes? I assume it would be legitimate for you to be 
reluctant to add fields which are overly tool-specific and therefore outside 
the scope of this project.
  
  With that in mind, what is your expectation for tool builders:
  
  - We rely entirely on the manifest exposed by Wikibase: users can configure a 
Wikibase instance just by adding the corresponding URL. It is clean, but relies 
on the assumption that all configuration parameters we will ever need will be 
available there (and puts pressure on the release and deployment process on 
your side to get new fields shipped quickly)
  - We still use our own configuration format, which is stripped of all 
information we can extract from the Wikibase instance via the new extension. 
This is more flexible, but still requires users to write manifests manually 
(although they would be much smaller).

  I looked a bit into this so I guess I should claim it.
  
  As far as I can tell, there’s no “silver bullet” that will let us implement 
this easily. The DB load group is specified when calling `getConnection()` or 
`getConnectionRef()` on an `ILoadBalancer`, and currently a lot of places in 
our code directly call those methods, and (as far as I can tell) always with 
the default group. Some classes extend the `DBAccessBase` class, which has 
special support for defaulting to a certain database //domain//, but not to a 
certain database //group//:

  The `LoadBalancer` and `LBFactory` classes have a `defaultGroup` parameter 
that can be set at construction time, but there’s no provision for changing 
this parameter later. I also couldn’t find any way to get an “alternative 
version” of a load balancer (factory), so the idea of “let’s create a copy of 
the main load balancer, but with a different `defaultGroup` parameter, and 
inject that into various services” also falls flat.
  
  So I suspect the solution to implementing custom DB load groups will be 
tedious but straightforward: add an optional `$databaseGroups = []` parameter 
to various services that take an `ILoadBalancer`, similar to how some of them 
already take a `$databaseDomain = false` parameter (e. g. 
`DatabaseMatchingTermsLookup`). I haven’t found any better way.

  Playing around with a new panel on grafana and looking at how these statsd 
things are called from the code.
  
  the statsd measurement of PrefetchingItemTermLookup_prefetchTerms is always 
followed by DatabaseTermIdsResolver_selectTermsViaJoin
  
  which both seem to be the queries with to have the biggest impacts from 
client. But using them both in the percentage panel might give a incorrect 
result, we should probably only use one?

  As a Wikidata editor, I want to create and edit items without getting 
conflict reports for pages that don’t exist.
  
  **Problem:**
  The Wikidata term store (aka new term store, normalized term store) contains 
some rows for deleted items.
  
  **Example:**
  An editor tried to set the Spanish label of an item to «Nicki Nicole» and the 
description to «cantante argentina», but got an error that “Item Nicki Nicole 
(Q67179790) already has label "Nicki Nicole" associated with language code es, 
using the same description text” (project chat permalink 
);
 however, the page Q67179790  was 
actually deleted on 12 September 2019.
  
  Querying the term store on Toolforge, we can see that the rows still exist 
which allowed Wikidata to detect the “conflict”, and also to render 
`{{Q|Q67179790}}` using the label of the deleted item:

  So, I have captured a lots of queries involving `wb_changes` and I haven't 
found any single query that has a crazy query plan as a result of deleting 
`wb_changes_change_type wb_changes_change_object_id wb_changes_change_user_id`.

  Some of them do report `wb_changes_change_revision_id`, some others don't. 
But as Amir said at T262856#6486318 
, it might be used, so let's 
leave it there.
  @Ladsgroup I think we can probably go ahead and create a proper schema change 
ticket and delete: `wb_changes_change_type wb_changes_change_type 
wb_changes_change_user_id`.
  It is not a huge table, so if we see something very strange once in 
production on more hosts, we can probably alter it quickly.
