  @Ladsgroup note that the question was not about the JSON blog that is stored. 
It is defined it should not changed.
  Question is about the JSON representation in the APIs ("action" API, special 
entity page, etc). My interpretation of requirements has been that this JSON 
representation should contain the favored form (i.e. hyphenated one). It would 
be great to have this interpretation confirmed by someone who knows what is the 
right thing. thanks

  Thanks for asking. Indeed. My opionin is that choosing one library over the 
other always depend on the usecase and lots of factors. vue-banana-i18n seems 
the obvious choice for us because we are not in the context of medawiki but for 
example for bridge, the other option might make more sense.

  Ah don't get me wrong, I totally accept that `vue-banana-i18n` is the right 
choice for us, if you say that it is.
  But I'm not familiar with those two libraries (we used neither in Bridge (nor 
in Termbox or TaintedRef as far as I can tell)) and so it was important for me 
that it is actually stated in this investigation ticket why we are going for 
one over the other.
  
  Both for me and for other people that might not be familiar with those 
libraries and that might look at this ticket in the future. :)

  - It’s understood that the changes made to the JSON output are breaking 
changes and will be announced according to the Stable Interface Policy 
, yes?
  - Will APIs like `wbeditentity` and `wbsetsitelink` still accept the 
underscore version as inputs? (Otherwise that’s another breaking change, though 
we could combine the announcement with the last one.)

  Currently, Wikibase accepts only one way for sitelinks. their canonical 
database name (their id in sites table).
  It is not uncommon for WMF wikis to have their site ID changed
  
  **Example: **"Belarussian Taraškievica" Wikipedia use to have a site ID 
`be_x_oldwiki`, which is also wiki's database canonical name. At some point the 
wiki has been renamed to `be-taraskwiki`. The `be_x_oldwiki` remained to be 
stored in the database as a "canonical site ID", but it is `be-taraskwiki` 
which is primarily used in the UI and expected in the user input (UI and API)
  
  **Change requested: **There will be a configurable site ID aliases to be used 
in favour of "canonical" site IDs
  
  Acceptance criteria:
  
  [ ] Configuration is open for more aliases to be added for other siteids
  [ ] The canonical site ids are still used for storage in JSON and other

delimiter, whereas canonical database names use underscores.
  Wikibase currently does take this convention into account.
  
  **Example**: `zh-classicalwiki` ("Chinese Classical Wikipedia") is used to 
refer to wiki, which canonical site ID is `zh_classicalwiki` (note `-` vs `_`)
  
  **Change requested**: Site IDs containing hyphens are accepted and mapped to 
Site IDs with underscores for storage (and mapped back to hyphens for display)
  
  **Acceptance criteria**
  
  [ ] The canonical site ids are still used for storage in JSON and other 
indexes.

  Since the above change doesn’t really expose the data + entity type 
definitions as services (they’re still stored as members of the `WikibaseRepo` 
instance), I wouldn’t consider this task done with only that change merged – we 
should also have some (simple) service that’s completely migrated to the 
service container (`WikibaseRepo` could still have a getter but it would get it 
from the `MediaWikiServices`). @Pablo-WMDE volunteered to attempt that, but in 
the meantime, let’s move this to Review for the first change.

   where we are working on subsetting wikidata, we ran into the issue of blank 
notes being used in the RDF of Wikidata to express unknown and no values. 
Unfortunately, this isn't consistent because blank notes are also used to 
express other things such as owl:complementOf (e.g. Q42).
  
  These blank nodes are also problematic for anything that traverses wikidata 
node-by-node such as faceted browsers or ShEx validators.
  
  It is not explicitly incorrect to have blank nodes in RDF data, but it is:
  
  1. inconsistent with the approach that Wikidata has taken (which is to avoid 
blank nodes)
  2. ambiguous because in RDF, blank nodes do not imply unknown values, they 
are simply *unidentified* nodes in the graph.
  
  Steps to Reproduce:
  
  - GET http://www.wikidata.org/entity/Q313093.ttl
  - look for "_:" (currently _:2d22892344b969be376b57170b5e495f)
  - try a SPARQL query for all properties of that node
  
SELECT ?P ?o { _:2d22892344b969be376b57170b5e495f ?p ?o }
  
  - Because of the semantics of SPARQL, this will try to get every triple in 
the database.
  
  It is not explicitly incorrect to have blank nodes in RDF data, but it is
  
  1. inconsistent with the approach that Wikidata has taken (which is to avoid 
blank nodes)
  2. ambiguous because in RDF, blank nodes do not imply unknown values, they 
are simply *unidentified* nodes in the graph.
  
  Remedy:
  Invent a system-wide identifier for unknown values and use that Q identifier 
for all references to unknown value.

  @Mike_Peel about getting rid of the concept of unsupported namespaces 
altogether: I'm not opposed to it but it was introduced back then based on 
community demand IIRC so would probably need some community discussion to 
reverse.
