  I agree that the feature should be implemented as laid out in the 
introduction.
  
  The badges within Wikidata are useful for addressing the concerns of those 
who opposed allowing site links to redirect in the RFC. They make it visible 
within Wikidata whether an item is linked to proper Wikipedia pages which 
matters for notability. After a bot adds sitelink to redirect (Q70893996) to 
all existing redirects without badges, we can list those via SPARQL queries and 
can either remove the link when they aren't pointing to valid redirects or 
change them to intentional sitelink to redirect (Q70894304)).
  
  Adding Wikidata badges in Wikidata via a bot needs one bot approval within 
Wikidata. Adding a magic word to existing redirects would require a bot request 
on every Wikimedia project.
  
  The magic word solution also has the problem that if the information about 
the nature of the links is not stored in Wikidata requests to Wikipedia have to 
be made whenever a Wikidata page with sitelinks is loaded. Increasing the 
number of requests that have to be done when a Wikidata page is loaded is bad 
for performance.

  Some of these fonts are specifically designed for //chữ Nôm//. The //Nôm// 
character repertoire in Unicode has expanded several times. The early favorite 
of the Vietnamese wikis, HAN NOM A/B 
, contains most 
//Nôm//-specific characters, but many of them are encoded in the Private Use 
Area because the font predates CJK Unified Ideographs Extension E in Unicode 
10. Aside from coverage, selecting a dedicated //Nôm// font is important 
because some important characters have distinct forms in each CJKV tradition

possible for a native label  
statement on a family name item or inscription 
 statement on a commemorative 
plaque item, for example.

TASK DESCRIPTION
  **Feature summary** (what you would like to be able to do and where):
  
  Add Carolinian and Tanapag language labels to items on Wikidata. At the 
moment it is only possible to specify Carolinian as the language for a string 
value corresponding to a property. (This feature was added in 2020 based on a 
ticket here based on my searching.)
  
  **Use case(s)** (list the steps that you performed to discover that problem, 
and describe the actual underlying problem which you want to solve. Do not 
describe only a solution):
  
  Carolinian is an official language of the Northern Mariana Islands and I have 
been adding Carolinian translations and etymologies to place names and related 
terms. There is a good open source/public domain Carolinian-English dictionary 
that has been informative for this. Tanapag is a related language which is 
endangered but still spoken on the language, and Carolinian has a lot of 
Tanapag loan words where it would be useful to specify where the word comes 
from.
  
  When I tried adding these translations to labels of Wikidata items, I found 
no way to do this.
  
  **Benefits** (why should this be implemented?):
  
  The main benefit is more complete coverage of the Northern Mariana Islands 
and related topics on Wikidata, which would in turn be helpful for tying to any 
complimentary data relating to the territory available through other channels. 
At the moment, any coverage of this topic is inhibited by the fact that it 
isn't congruent with the way the languages of other regions of the world are 
typically specified or at least supposed to be. (I am aware language support 
limitations have long been an issue in the Mediawiki ecosystem, but I am not 
knowledgeable on the technical details of it, or how feasible it is to add 
specific languages until a more comprehensive system for specifying language is 
introduced.)

  Need to verify if all targets includes on subpages under MediaWiki:Mainpage 
 could 
be replaced with a redirect. IMO current logic for handling `zh-*` looks fine.

under the "Hani" code. I found this argument in favor of it from 2006 on a  
Hanja Wikipedia proposal 

 page. While there are constructions/compositions of Han characters into 
combinations that might only be intelligible to the Vietnamese literati of the 
time, it still follows the same rules of construction of Classical Chinese 
script in general. I'm studying the Dictionarium Annamiticum Lusitanum et 
Latinum 
, 
and although Latinized Middle Vietnamese had b-with-flourish ꞗ 
, apex diacritic 
, and a few other conventions 
no longer in use in modern Vietnamese orthography, it doesn't mean it merits 
its own Latin variation code.
  
  If we look at an example classical text, Chinh Phụ Ngâm Khúc 
,
 which is written in Han script, and later translated into Nôm script, if I 
were to encode this and give a user a choice between Han and Nôm, it would seem 
to me that Han is 'lzh' (Hani is implied I suppose), and Nôm would be 
'vi-Hani'. As long as there //is// a way to distinguish between the two texts, 
then I'm happy for it.
