I've found the link to the ongoing discussion on SOP mw.org page pretty important, thanks for a hint. I also do understand, and can absolutely relate to the fact that chasing the moving target is, among other adjectives that could be used, not optimal. This particular review clearly was requested too early, apologies for that. What I can assure at this point, understanding it does not change the past issues, that the extension code is now in the ready state, and there are only finishing touches being done to it this week. I will update this ticket next week with the new desired deployment date, after checking this with the Product Management, as the development took longer than planned, and the original date has not been met. Right, this basically brings us back to the discussion that was happening in T199446 <https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T199446> and in the related patch experiments done by some WMDE engineers. To take the recent failure (T220229 <https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T220229>) as an example, here's what I believe happens: 1. Edit is made with the API (namely, new lexeme is created) 2. Once done, Special:RecentChanges is opened 3. Driver is apparently too fast, as the just made edit has not made it to Recent Changes yet. I see no real way to get around this, as, for valid reasons, Recent changes are populated asynchronously, hence it always be possible, that the recent changes page will be opened before the job updating recent changes has added data from recent edits. Rather dumb approach I could think of would be to have test wait some arbitrary amount of time between making an edit, and opening the special page, but this does not seem like a sustainable approach. Things could get too slow and this is difficult to predict. Also, adding a "sleep" to all tests dealing with recent changes etc would likely make the duration of the test suite run even longer, while it does quite a significant amount of time already. I'd see this as a (rather annoying) hack that hopefully works for some time, but not really a solution. We could also ignore testing integration of our tools with Recent Changes, but as Recent Changes is the critical part of wikis, and integral part of editor work flows, ignoring those parts of the system from automated testing seems wrong, to put mildly. Any ideas how to deal with this? WMDE-leszek added a comment. @MarkTraceur, @jcrespo et al: We've discussed this briefly at WMDE, and we believe the suggested idea should not be problematic with regards to wb_terms table. Neither the existing wb_terms table, neither its refactored replacement is expected to be used in joins with "standard" MW tables, hence moving the table to separate cluster shouldn't create an issue. The move would likely require some changes to the Wikibase code, so it would be preferred from WMDE side, that the separation happened after our current storage work is done (1-2 months from now), so we can limit number of variables we deal with. It should be noted wb_terms (or what is about to replace it) is not the only DB table created and used by Wikibase extension. These other tables (e.g. wbc_changes) couldn't, in our understanding, be easily moved to a separate cluster, and we'd recommend against such move, unless there are important reasons to do so. It is not clear from the comments above, whether the separation you have been discussing only considers wb_terms table, or all Wikibase-specific tables. We (WMDE) have worked on the assumption RDF output for MediaInfo things is not yet needed, and hence did not prioritize RDF topics in this area. I will revisit this all next week. To be clear about it: WMDE is not going to be able to drive overhauling GuidedTours gadget, should this become the part of the solution. This seems like a slightly bigger task, which is beyond our current capacities. While what @Tarrow suggested above, to move the code to some other location that would allow for better maintainability is a great hint indeed, let's see if we could still help regardless. @Mrjohncummings @Sebastian_Berlin-WMSE: forgive me my ignorance when talking about Guided Tours. I admit I have had very little experience with it, hence might be naming things wrong, or miss details which should have been obvious. Given there has been quite some work around the issue, I'd like to take a step back and make sure I understand what is the current state, i.e. what is currently working wrong. I've just opened https://test.wikidata.org/w/index.php?title=Q1027&tour=wbqualifiers&data=ok and while going through a tour, I noticed that the when on the step 8, ie. the one saying "In the new property field, start typing in "point in time" and select it from the drop-down to add.", the tour window is not attached to the newly opened input field, to which I should be typing into. Windows related to prior steps, including Step 7's "Next click on the [add qualifier] button that appeared." are attached as expected. Does this seem a correct observation and I pin pointed the issue right?
