I would like to thank the organizers of Wikimania 2011, and the volunteers
involved. I would like to thank for their concern about safety, effort and
hard work.
The event management was great. We didn't have to worry about anything at
all and things were much better than I had ever thought it

Huge, huge thanks to WM Israel for Wikimania 2011--a beautiful gift to

I'll add my thanks to the chorus. It was an amazing Wikimania.
Having participated in the organisation of quite a few Wikimanias, and

I'm not sure if this is covered by Delphine's suggestion, but the ability to
recognize staffers is helpful - I knew quite some of them so had little
trouble, but I saw others looking harder for them. Giving staffers a special
symbol/color on their badge or giving them a different color T-shirt

Yesh!
But I've seen _lots_ of people looking for the vegetarian
food without ever knowing which it was. So: Label food. Name of the

Who told the security staff at Ben Gurion that CDs have been distributed as

Yeah, I remember that stroopwafel quite well. :))
Too bad Dutch stroopwafels aren't sold in the Philippines: we have plenty of
Belgian ones here though. But I got to buy seven boxes in Schiphol before
boarding my flight to Manila. :D

Hey James,
This should not be a problem. I passed with four GPS-devices that were not
mine trough security control (I borrowed them for the mapping party). Just
explain it, and they we'll examine it closely.
Btw, make sure you have something with you with the logo of the conference,

Here's a thought. I stayed at what the conference called the Senate dorms, yet
I see nothing on campus that indicates that it was called that. Yes, the term
Senate Dorms does appear at the bus stop, and there is a Senate House nearby,
but the dorms themselves aren't labeled as such, nor is that

It's always the visitors, or the outsiders who get that treatment. Airport
authorities, airlines hardly ever focus on local or people who look like of

It's just who looks more like

I'll see if I can find an Internet Cafe that burns backups to CD. Last

Personally, I found it a nice experience to not have all those titles thrown
into my face every time I saw a badge. But then I know most of the people
