Re: [Wikimedia-l] Wikimedia-l diversity and level of participation

2018-11-20 Thread Pine W
Hi Mathieu,

Thank you very much for these suggestions.

Communications inside the Wikiverse and among projects are messy and
complex. I have some ideas for how to improve our communications, including
transitioning mailing lists to Discourse and creating a central place where
people can subscribe or unsubscribe to newsletters. I will add your ideas
to the mix. Hopefully these issues will get some attention during 2019.

Re: [Wikimedia-l] appeal of fundraising technical wish denial

2018-11-20 Thread Pine W
Hi James,

Although I have a variety of frustrations with WMF Community Resources and
for COI reasons I would like to have ways to fund Wikimedia projects with
minimal involvement or approvals from WMF, I agree with Danny that your
proposal as written is likely outside of the scope for the Community
Wishlist Survey and that your proposal would benefit from clarification. I
support Danny's decision, but I thank you for thinking about these topics.
I hope to see more discussion of fundraising and distribution of resources
in the weeks and months ahead, including in the context of the WMF strategy
process.

[Wikimedia-l] appeal of fundraising technical wish denial

2018-11-20 Thread James Salsman
I would like to appeal
https://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Community_Wishlist_Survey_2019%2FArchive%2FAssist_Wikimedians_with_crowdfunding=revision=18603544=18594887

on the grounds that adding a different behavior to existing behavior
in order to try to measure which is better is an inherent part of
every technical and documentation approval. In other words, trying
something new isn't the same as irrevocable change unless it is
incontrovertible that the change is an obvious improvement, the extent
of which should be measured.

Or to put it another way, the Foundation should build manual-only
fundraising bots and give access to them in addition to ordinary
grants. I hope you agree, but if you don't, that's okay too.

Thank you for reading this appeal. Whether this project succeeds or
otherwise, I wish you the best.

Regards,
Jim

Re: [Wikimedia-l] בואו לקחת חלק במפגש התמונות הגדול - מחר, ספריית בית אריאלה!

2018-11-20 Thread Itzik - Wikimedia Israel
And it happened to me again: I sent an email to Wikimedia-L instead to
Wikimedia Israel's mailing list. Oops! sorry about that :)

But if you are in Israel (just in case!), you are welcome to join us
tomorrow for a special photo-editon event, and help us categorized and add
relevant photos to Wikipedia, as part of our special project to release
more than 28,000 from museums in Israel (more about it in English
,
English 2
, and
Franch
)

[Wikimedia-l] בואו לקחת חלק במפגש התמונות הגדול - מחר, ספריית בית אריאלה!

2018-11-20 Thread Itzik - Wikimedia Israel
