[Wikimedia Northern Europe] Global Conversations Dec. 5+6 - registration information
Hi everyone, Close to 250 people participated in virtual Global Conversations that took place on November 21 and 22. The discussion continues on December 5 and 6 and we warmly invite you to take part. Registration is open until December 4. [1] What happened already Nearly 50 communities and affiliates shared their priorities in advance and can continue to do so. [2] Based on those priorities, the first set of events on Nov. 21+22 took discussions further by asking Wikimedians from around the world which of the 45 Movement Strategy initiatives are most important to globally coordinate and start implementing in 2021. For some of the initiatives, implementation means further discussions and scoping. Take a look at the results. [3] What do you think about the priorities? What is missing? What would make you want to play an active role in implementation? Coordination will vary from one initiative to another. Some can be implemented on their own, some will involve diverse communities and affiliates of different sizes working together, and others may require support from the Wikimedia Foundation. What happens next During the next set of discussions on December 5 and 6, we will focus on the top global priorities and start discussing what implementation can actually look like. What are the steps needed to put Strategy into action? Everyone’s invited to help enrich these conversations. Since implementation will be different from one context to another, we need as many voices as possible included to create a movement-wide implementation plan. Based on the feedback, we would like to continue the great momentum of the first set of events and will provide social opportunities for Wikimedians to connect. We will also provide space to hold short lightning talks [4] on how to implement certain initiatives. If you have ideas, please share them with others. If you are unable to attend, we will share the results and raw data on Meta so we can still benefit from your input. What is provided As for the first set of events, we will provide live interpretation in Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Indonesian, Russian, and Spanish. In the registration form, please let us know if you require language support as well as internet data package upgrade or childcare for the duration of the event. Familiarize yourself with the initiatives already prioritized, register early, and continue the conversation on December 5 and 6. See you there. On behalf of the Support Team, Kaarel [1] Registration is open until Dec. 4: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeldyqX2vhR53yjUEzmhFg_y8phoCbPy4m3wCaPV4RBOerx1Q/viewform [2] Map and table of priorities from affiliates and communities: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Strategy/Wikimedia_movement/2018-20/Transition/Prioritization_events/Table [3] Report page on Meta with the emerging global priorities: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Strategy/Wikimedia_movement/2018-20/Transition/Global_Conversations/Report [4] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lightning_talk -- Kaarel Vaidla (he/him) Movement Strategy <https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Strategy/2030> Wikimedia Foundation <https://wikimediafoundation.org/> ___ Wikimedia-Northern-Europe mailing list Wikimedia-Northern-Europe@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikimedia-northern-europe
[Wikimedia Northern Europe] Global Conversations Nov. 21+22 - registration information
Hi everyone, With two weeks to go until the global meetings, the Movement Strategy Support Team would like to share some important information with you. The Movement Strategy Global Conversations will take place on Saturday November 21, 11:00 to 15:00 UTC, and Sunday November 22, 17:00 to 21:00 UTC [1]. Both events are the same, offered at different times to have participation from different regions and communities. Regardless of your knowledge of Movement Strategy, you’re warmly invited to attend one of the calls. We have also developed a simple open source game to help you brush up on your knowledge! Download the game here [2]. The focus of the meetings on Nov. 21 and 22 will be to look at priorities identified by communities and affiliates [3], and to begin to create a movement-wide implementation plan for 2021. Most of the work during the calls will be in small group discussions. We will also set aside time for socializing and (re)connecting with other Wikimedians. Updates will be shared on wiki for parallel input and for those that are unable to join the calls. The discussion space is already open [4]. There will be a second set of events on December 5 and 6 to take the work further and to discuss specific actions around the identified priorities. We will adapt the second set of events based on the experience of the first and welcome your feedback. Registration - Please register so we can share the login information with you before the call. [5] Registration remains open until Nov. 20. - The meeting will take place on Zoom. Zoom was chosen as a platform that many Wikimedians are already familiar with and one that allows live interpretation and breakout rooms. Participation - We are exploring ways to provide support for those that need it — for example, for a reliable internet connection, data top-up, or childcare during the events. Please indicate this in the registration form. - We would also like to remind everyone of our Friendly Space policy [6] so we could have constructive conversations and everyone feels welcomed to contribute. As we get closer to the events, we will share the detailed program and other useful information with you. In the meantime, if you have any questions or comments, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the Support Team via Telegram [7], Wikimedia Chat [8] or by email at strategy2030{{at}} wikimedia.org. [Wikimedia Northern Europe] Regional and Thematic collaboratives @Wikimania Strategy Space
Dear representatives of regional collaborative, I am writing to you to invite representatives of regional and thematic collaboratives to participate in the 1,5 hour discussion we are planning to have *tomorrow* (Sunday, July 22) morning in the *Strategy Space @Wikimania in room 3203* (on the 32nd floor) starting from *10:30*. We will be discussing how to best involve regional and thematic collaboratives in the process and channel possible collective input to the process. Look forward to seeing many of you! Have a great weekend! -- *Kaarel Vaidla* Process Architect for Wikimedia Movement Strategy 2030.wikimedia.org ___ Wikimedia-Northern-Europe mailing list Wikimedia-Northern-Europe@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikimedia-northern-europe
[Wikimedia Northern Europe] Movement Strategy - call for Working Group participation
Dear regional partners and friends in strategizing, I am happy to invite you all to participate in the Working Groups of the Phase II movement strategy discussions! I am forwarding the initial call that the Program Manager Nicole Ebber posted in Wikimedia-l. If you have any questions or suggestions, please do not hesitate to reach out! ___ *Dear Wikimedians, Following up on Katherine’s email from last week[1], we are today opening the call for Working Group members for 9 Thematic Areas (yes, we added one more!).== Working Group members == The Working Groups will map the present situation of their Thematic Area, the obstacles and opportunities, as well as needed changes. They will identify possible strategies for making these changes and develop concrete recommendations for the movement on how to ratify and implement them.[2] Working Group members will need to be able to invest a minimum of 5 hours per week, but that time might vary depending on the workflow that each group agrees upon. Members of the Working Groups are expected to act in the interest of the movement, not in the interest of their own organization or community. == Selection of members ==We are looking for a maximum of 15 members for each of the 9 groups. For best results we will need a diverse set of members from across the movement. We have developed a set of criteria, to ensure the necessary expertise, diversity, and representation.[3] We will assemble a Steering Committee to decide upon membership of the Working Groups in close coordination with the Core Strategy Team.[4] == Apply to become a working group member == We encourage everyone with an interest in the strategic conversations to apply for becoming a Working Group member in their topic of expertise. We recommend that movement organizations and groups create internal processes for the selection of their candidates to avoid multiple, competing applications. The call will be open until June 25, 2018. Please apply via this application form.[5] To prepare your application, you can consult the overview of the questions asked in the form on Meta.[6] == Next steps == We expect to be able to announce the Working Group members in the second week of July, so that the working groups can be assembled, onboarded and ready to start working before Wikimania. The first step for the groups will be to agree upon their set-up and scope of work. At Wikimania, we plan to convene the attending Working Group members in the Strategy Space to discuss and refine their road to the recommendations and ensure exchange between the groups.[7]We invite you all to familiarize yourselves with the existing documentation of the Working Group(s) of your interest,[8] add comments, additional input or share your concerns via talk pages Your comments will be then forwarded to the respective Working Groups for consideration. We are looking forward to working and having these long-awaited conversations with many of you! Dear Hogne, \ Thank you for the swift answer! Any other opinions? What about time? I would propose Saturday, Drummond East 19:30 and onwards.
