Re: [Wikimediaindia-l] WikiConfIndia - Old/New Logo Decision discussion

2011-09-28 Thread Vivek Murarka
I'm glad the decision is to stick to the old logo.

I does *seem* to be spelled incorrectly, but actually it's not.

The old logo uses running-hand devnagri (as in, as if its handwritten) and not
any printing font. Handwritten devnagri can be as difficult (or easy) to read
as any other script. The way its written in the logo, one does have to re-read
it and work it out - but that's part of its appeal to me.

I've not seen the re-submitted new logo and hence this is not a comment on its
merits.

Thanks Regards,
VivekM

Re: [Wikimediaindia-l] Press Coverage: Request for Voices Faces!

2011-09-12 Thread Vivek Murarka
Hello Hisham, Everyone,

Both these articles will go a long way in generating more awareness and
interest in Wikipedia and its Programs. The Telegraph article is on an fully
open-access website, while the Times Crest site requires sign-up. I do not know
if Times Crest is widely known or is available in print. I learned of if from a
previous post to this list giving the link and also the text of the article.

Could the Times Group be requested to also carry the Times Crest article on an
open site. Respecting copyrights and then given the title/headline of the
article, I would not like to copy-paste the text from the said previous post.
Yet, I'd like to share it with a few academics in one or two schools and
colleges who, I think, would be interested, but may not have read the article.
[Posting the text on this list though is Fair Use, imho.]

A thought. I wonder how some popular columnists, known for their incisive
styles and penchant for word-play, would treat [if they decided to] the
subject/s of these articles.

Meanwhile, though probably off-topic on this list, may I share with you in the
celebration of the lives of two memorable Mumbaikars, recently passed; with
this :
http://blogs.timesofindia.indiatimes.com/erratica/entry/conqueror-of-maladies .

Thanks Regards,

[Wikimediaindia-l] Pune Pilots, Ambassadors and MumCon Questions

2011-09-06 Thread Vivek Murarka
Hi All,

I'm very new to Wikimedia, but delighted since joining this list last week.

Godspeed to everyone at the Pune Pilots 1k Program. It will be a privilige to
have an opportunity to work with you, now and upon roll-out.

So I've submitted my Online Ambassador Application, and am keeping my fingers
crossed.

But there start my questions.

[Wikimediaindia-l] Pune Pilots, Ambassadors and MumCon Questions

2011-09-06 Thread Vivek Murarka
Hi All,

***Please excuse previous incomplete mail sent by mistake.***

I'm very new to Wikimedia, but delighted since joining this list last week.

Godspeed to everyone in the Pune Pilots 1k Program. I read the Robinson Crusoe
Economy article. It is so clean, complete and elegant. It will be a privilige
to be given an opportunity to work with you, now and upon roll-out.

So I've submitted my Online Ambassador Application, and am keeping my fingers
crossed.

But here start my questions.

1. In the application I've given my locality, city (kolkata), state country.
Was the full postal address required. If so, should I re-submit?

2. Could there be training sessions for Online/Campus Ambassadors at Mumbai
just before or after the Conference dates? [I'd not like to tie-up conference
time with classrom time]

3. Also, could there be similar sessions for Wikipedia editors to improve their
Wikiabilities generally.

4. Could/would there be a facility to hire laptops for the duration of the
Conference - if not generally, then on the basis of request/choice made via the
registration form?

Thanks and Regards,

VivekM
