I think one of the strengths of wikipedia is that contributions are
taken at face value for what they are, rather than based on who
submits them. The sourcing should speak for itself!

 ... Wikipedia doesn't mandate
 its editors to be truthful

From what I understand no editor is expected to reveal more about
themselves - or their editing past - than they feel comfortable with.
Don't ask and don't tell is my view. However, I'm sure I would agree
that lying is ok on wikipedia - please see

for an essay on the subject.

Date is now finalised as Saturday 14th March, at 1pm (time based on London
meetups which seems to be a good setup).

Please sign up if you can make it[1] - if you'd like to be reminded about it
nearer the time, please sign your name in the reminders section - no
excuses! :-)

If you can't make it but would like to be notified of UK meetups, please
sign your name on [2]. Even if you can make it and want to be notified of
future meetups, please sign too!

Thanks, and looking forward to March!

Is the meet up just for editors? - I retired a year ago from editing but
still read and use wikipedia. It seems a little extreme to bar non-editors,
its a social.

Thanks for the reply on-wiki Alex. There is certainly nothing bizarre about
wishing to attend after a years absence from editing. I've been a member of
this list for 18months and can't recall any mention of Manchester meetup 2
or 3 ever being advertised on the list. Meetup 2 was mentioned on the GM
project.

Wikipedia is the encyclopedia *anyone *can edit. I have not been barred from
editing and do edit under a wikiname that wouldn't link me to my past. I'm
not 45 and from AL so attending the meetup in that guise would be far
stranger than a lapsed editor showing an interest. Wikipedia doesn't mandate
its editors to be truthful, do untruths help swing xfds or Rfa's? - I think
thats doubtful - consistant editing and sourcing makes wikipedia good.
