[Wikisource-l] Fwd: Wikisource 10th aniversary proposal : Proofreading contest
Great concept. I think this would a great little project, and worth the expense for the WMAu chapter. I helped run a small wikisource competition with Wikimedia Indonesia (esp. Ivonne & Siska) to transcribe a 550 page dictionary, and found it to be very successful, but does require quite a bit of time to run and help newbies. Ill write up a proposal if another WMAu member is willing to second and help organise the competition in Oz. -- John -- Forwarded message -- From: "David Cuenca" Date: Oct 31, 2013 10:09 PM Subject: [Wikisource-l] Wikisource 10th aniversary proposal : Proofreading contest To: "discussion list for Wikisource, the free library" < wikisource-l@lists.wikimedia.org> Cc: Talking with some members of Amical Wikimedia about how to celebrate the 10th aniversary, one of the proposals was to organize a proofreading contest. Basically, we would select some books for the participants to proofread and validate and they would gather points for each page without errors. The person with the most points would win a Kindle donated by Amical Wikimedia. However, we have been thinking that with the help of some members of the Wikisource User Group and other Chapters, then we could escalate it to an international proofreading contest, instead of being just regional. I guess ideally we would need 3 kindles and at least a volunteer from each community to organize it. What do you think of the idea? Would you or any chapter that would like to get involved? Ok guys, after (more than) 2 weeks, the survey will be closed tonight. If you still need to fill it in, do it *now*. We then will have to analyze the 250 responses :-) Thanks for your help so far, and be prepared to help us more :-D Aubrey On Mon, Oct 14, 2013 at 10:53 AM, Andrea Zanni wrote: > Hi all, > have you posted the link to the survey in your personal Wikisource? > https://wikimedia.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_6taoDVAWcg6vSIZ > I suggest you do it as soon as possible, and maybe directly use the > sitenotice (on MediaWiki:Sitenotice) on top of all pages (ask you community > to do so, before). > > *We will shut the survey down in 2 weeks*, so, better hurry :-) > > Aubrey > > > On Sat, Oct 12, 2013 at 4:09 PM, Andrea Zanni wrote: > >> Dear all, thanks to your amazing work, >> we now have the survey in 11 languages! >> (which are) >> English >> French >> Italian >> Hindi >> Catalan >> Spanish >> Russian >> Dutch >> German >> Ukrainian >> Polish >> >> The survey can be translated in less than an hour, so if you want to do >> that tell us NOW. >> We were thinking of activating the survey and spreading it for tomorrow >> (Sunday 13) evening, CET time, in order to making it available for 2 whole >> weeks, from Monday 14 till Monday 28. >> >> We encourage you to talk with your language community in these days: the >> survey could be linked in the village pumps, or, even better, in the >> sitenotice. >> >> We are aware that every community has different policies and customs, so >> it's much better that you talk to you own, and decide together. >> >> The link to the survey should always be this one: >> https://wikimedia.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_6taoDVAWcg6vSIZ >> If you have problem, please tell us. >> If you need any kind of assistance, please ask. >> And thanks again for the amazing work :-) >> >> Aubrey and Micru >> >> >> On Fri, Oct 11, 2013 at 4:11 PM, Arnd Schröter >> wrote: >> >>> I would go for German translation if you tell me how. .. >>> >>> >>> >>> Ursprüngliche Nachricht >>> Von: Andrea Zanni >>> Datum: 10.10.2013 14:50 (GMT+01:00) >>> An: "discussion list for Wikisource, the free library" < >>> wikisource-l@lists.wikimedia.org> >>> Betreff: Re: [Wikisource-l] Wikisource survey >>> >>> >>> Hi all. >>> The survey has been translated already in Italian and French, and is >>> being translated in Hindi. >>> Is somebody else interested in translating it in another language? >>> Do you have any more feedback? >>> >>> Otherwise, we'll launch it as soon as the last translations are >>> completed. >>> >>> Aubrey >>> >>> >>> On Tue, Oct 8, 2013 at 7:06 PM, Andrea Zanni >>> wrote: >>> I will write you in private. Re: [Wikisource-l] Wikisource 10th aniversary proposal : Proofreading contest
Hi, Good idea. In France, I've ask to some people in Wikimedia France but nobody was really interrested and it's a bit too late (plus WLM was really exhausting again this year and it's not exactly over). Nonetheless, we are doing a day to celebrate the anniversary in Rennes (Bretagne) with some wikimedians (and hopefully some french and breton wikisourcerers) at the Rennes public library. We will do both edit-a-thon on Wikipédia and upload some texte from the already digitize library (and correct them obviously but it take times to correct pages on Wikisource). Re: [Wikisource-l] Wikisource 10th aniversary proposal : Proofreading contest
I can easily talk with Wikimedia Italy. Maybe they are interested. I would suggest not a Kindle :-), but a Kobo or other device that can read natively epubs :-D Aubrey On Thu, Oct 31, 2013 at 4:08 PM, David Cuenca wrote: > Talking with some members of Amical Wikimedia about how to celebrate the > 10th aniversary, one of the proposals was to organize a proofreading > contest. > > Basically, we would select some books for the participants to proofread > and validate and they would gather points for each page without errors.
