[WISPA] Idleaire Shutdown

2010-02-26 Thread Stuart Pierce
http://www.idleaire.com/

Idleaire apparently has shut down operations, but grapevine may be that they
sold out. If you are close to one of their truckstop locations, you may be able
to get Idleaire or the new companies internet connection. Maybe even the
truckstop's hotspot service.

Re: [WISPA] anyone know this ROHN tower?

2010-02-26 Thread Mike
I'm not sure why they show the finished height at 195' Each section SHOULD
be 20'. I love the Rohn towers. My NOC has a 9N. This appears to be a
10N. For my 180' + tower, I dug a hole 5 feet deep and 17' x 17'. We laced
6,000 lbs of steel with double saddle wires every foot in every dimension.
It took 59 1/2 yards of concrete to fill the foundation. The J bolts for
the base go all the way to the bottom of the hole, and are laced to the
steel. The 1N section gets a little wispy at the top!

Your price is a good one. Do you have to disassemble? I can give you some
advice on how much you have to take it apart for stacking and transport.

Re: [WISPA] anyone know this ROHN tower?

2010-02-26 Thread Mike
Yep, but I have pictures to prove a madman, and a slavish ground man, using
a gin pole, and some ropes and pulleys can erect one in 12 hours.

My best advice on preparations for planting a big Rohn tower is to have a
good template. Placement of the huge J bolts on a good template while
pouring will make erection a lot easier.

I'm not the madman.

What confuses me about this tower is the drawing does not say it is a 9N
base. I am wondering if it is a special built tower by ROHN just for this
project.

Guy told me he seen the receipt for this tower and it was $42,000!!!

Still new and on his asphalt driveway never assembled.

Wonder if I can do a MAT foundation even though a 10N base calls for Peir
only.

[WISPA] Form 477 Utility - futher notes

2010-02-26 Thread Cameron Crum
Just wanted to add a couple more things to be aware of. The csv files
should not have around the values. They should be:

first,last,address,city,state,zip

for the desktop geocoder and:

first,last,address,city,state,zip,lat,lon,up_rate,dn_rate,tech_code

for the upload file.

XL and Open office try to export to CSV with around the fields
unless you specify not to have them. Also, if you are submitting
pre-geocoded data, make sure that before exporting your csv from a
spreadsheet to format the lat, lon columns to be a decimal with 5 places
after the decimal point. I know open office cuts off the last 3 places
in the default format so that lat/lons came out like 42.35 and -96.21.
This is not enough accuracy for proper tract referencing. If you get an
http error when trying to submit, send me an email (cc...@wispmon.com)
and I'll tell you what is wrong.

Re: [WISPA] Scheduling - again!

2010-02-26 Thread Scott Vander Dussen
At any given point in time our schedule has at least 60+ pending stops
scattered over a 2,000+ square mile territory, some that need to be done ASAP,
other that are somewhat urgent, and still others just when we're in the area.
Certain stops require certain vehicles and others don't.

I think the Google thing works OK if you have someone micro managing the pins,
but it totally breaks down (for us anyhow) in the real world. Imagine FedEx
planning all their fleet's stops for the day using pushpins on Google Maps! (:
There's a threshold of planned and future stop capacity where something a bit
more automated and algorithm-based managing is needed.

Thanks for your input and example - that's totally what I'm looking for on a
daily basis.

Take care,
`S

several minutes from my timings. At least it did 2 or 3 years ago.

Waiting to turn flat out sucks.

Seriously though, twitter has an immense amount of practical uses.
search.twitter.com and save results as an RSS feed is what I use the most.

Now Foursquare on the other hand

Tracks twitter users who post their comings and goings.

I tweet a lot, and I will often post when I'm going out. However that
doesn't mean the house isn't secure in other fashions.

  No need to case
the joint as twitterers post where they are at all times leaving ample
warning of them coming home so that you can rob their homes.

Nice lesson to teach some people.

In the coming months and years, folks who refuse to embrace the two way
web will be left behind. It's taking the world by storm and enabling all
sorts of new opportunities. Now with that comes some risks and those
need to be mitigated. It's just like mounting access points on towers.
You get substantial advantages, along with a fair amount of risk.
