Depends on size of antenna. If using a parabolic
or dss dish (18"-24"), going 5-8 feet above ground, I'd highly recommend
2-3/8" dia pole. However, if a smaller antenna, 1.25"

I have used 1.5" (actually ~2" o.d.) galvanized water pipe
to do this, works great.

I have a site where the only place to get a signal
is about 5 off the road and then run cable 100' back to the house. Only

1.5 will sway WAY less at 8-10ft compared to the 1.25. (channel master
type) Even with the little ol Demarc radios I use.
